Alan Shearer has hailed Alexander Isak's header against Arsenal as a 'thing of beauty'. The former Newcastle striker also revealed he happened to be watching his beloved Magpies beat Arsenal in the company of Ian Wright. Isak's brilliant first half header was the only goal in Saturday's 1-0 win over Arsenal at St. James' Park. He connected with Anthony Gordon's cross to beat David Raya to seal what could be a crucial victory for his side. Discussing the goal, Shearer told The Rest Is Football podcast: "The cross and the header. It was a thing of beauty, wasn’t it? " As for Arsenal legend Wright's reaction, Shearer added: "He was shouting and swearing, everything. He was going mad. "He did, though, say he thought the best team won and Newcastle deserved to win. "He was very disappointed in Arsenal - how flat they were. How they sort of got dragged down and Newcastle didn’t really allow them to play their game. " The win means Newcastle are now just three points behind fifth placed Arsenal in 10th. Elsewhere, the Gunners find themselves seven points adrift of Premier League leaders Liverpool. Isak, meanwhile, has scored in three consecutive matches after also netting in the league and Carabao Cup against Chelsea last week. After the match, he exclusively told talk SPORT's Jim White: "We want to go far in the tournament, in the Cups and in the Premier League. So, yeah, it was really a perfect week. " The Sweden international continued: "It was a long game. When you go up early and you kind of have to defend the lead, the game can feel like it takes four hours. "So it was kind of that type of game. I think we defended brilliantly as a unit and we really showed character today. " Asked whether Newcastle can now look to build momentum, Isak said: "Hopefully, yeah. It's about what we do with it. "We've now won two games back to back, so we have to use this confidence and this momentum to keep getting wins. " The 25-year-old will hope to keep his scoring streak going away to Nottingham Forest this Sunday. This service is provided on talk SPORT Ltd's Terms of Use in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
