By ABDI RASHID, SPORTS REPORTER Published: 18: 16 AEST, 30 August 2025 | Updated: 18: 16 AEST, 30 August 2025 6 View comments Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets has advised Fermin Lopez to stay at the club despite interest from Chelsea.    The Blues made initial contact earlier this week over a move for the attacking midfielder, who was a key part of Hansi Flick's side last season. But having been named on the bench for both of Barcelona's first two league games of the season, the 22-year-old may find minutes more hard to come by this term.   A move to Stamford Bridge, where he is likely to be afforded more starts, may therefore be favourable for Lopez in a World Cup year.   However, Busquets feels it would be in Barcelona’s best interests for Lopez to stay at the club - though he concedes a move away might ultimately benefit the player’s career.   'Players who leave La Masia have a different vision of what it's like to wear the badge, to come through the youth ranks and reach your dream of being in the first team, ' the Inter Miami midfielder said as per Mundo Deportivo.   Sergio Busquets has advised Fermin Lopez to stay at Barcelona despite Chelsea's interest Lopez was named on the bench for both of Barcelona's first two league games of the season The Blues made initial contact earlier this week over a move for the attacking midfielder 'In the end it's an individual decision, they have to look out for the good of themselves, the club – and if he stays – then so much the better. 'I don't know 100% if a sale is necessary, if he wants to leave, and the club give permission, the only thing we're going to do is support him and wish him all the best. ' Lopez featured in 46 matches in all competitions last season, contributing eight goals and 10 assists. This included Lopez scoring six goals and providing five assists in La Liga, helping Barcelona to claim the domestic title. Lopez played 45 minutes of Barcelona’s season opener against Real Mallorca last week, but was on the bench throughout their 3-2 victory over Levante last weekend. Barcelona can also call upon Frankie de Jong, Dani Olmo and Marc Bernal in the centre of the pitch. Lopez made his debut for Spain last summer in a victory over Andorra, while he played in one match as the national team triumphed at Euro 2024. The 22-year-old has not featured for the national team since. A sale potential could help ease Barcelona's financial position, which could allow the club to register Wojciech Szczesny, Roony Bardgjhi and Gerard Martin.
