By DANIEL DAVIS and AADAM PATEL AT THE GTECH COMMUNITY STADIUM Published: 03: 15 AEDT, 9 March 2025 | Updated: 06: 00 AEDT, 9 March 2025 4 View comments Follow Mail Sport's live blog for the latest score, team news and updates as Brentford host Aston Villa in the Premier League at the Gtech Community Stadium. By Dan Davis I thought Brentford were level, but no! Yoane Wissa teed up Keane Lewis-Potter and his low effort skidded across the surface before striking the outside of the post. The hosts are beginning to knock on the door. By Dan Davis Huge block by Axel Disasi, his second of the evening. Yoane Wissa did well to hold the ball up on the edge of the box before playing in Kevin Schade, although the angle was tight. Schade looked to fire in a low shot but again, Disasi smothered it. Cue another fist pump from the fired-up defender. By Dan Davis Marcus Rashford has been introduced into the fray. Jacob Ramsey has been replaced. By Dan Davis Kristoffer Ajer went through the back of Jacob Ramsey and was booked. Straightforward decision, that one. By Dan Davis Well! Should Brentford have been awarded a penalty? This is a controversial one. Kevin Schade went down in the box after Axel Disasi slipped and careered into him on the by-line. VAR took a look but the referee was not sent to the monitor. Honestly, I'm surprised. By Dan Davis It's worth keeping your eyes on Robin Olsen. He collected a cross before that substitution but hit the ground hard as he tumbled. Again, he was seen clutching his troublesome back. By Dan Davis Villa have made a change to wrestle back momentum. Boubacar Kamara is on, replacing John Mc Ginn. By Dan Davis That is absolutely superb from Axel Disasi. Space opened up for Keane Lewis-Potter and he was afforded time to race into the box and lock eyes with Robin Olsen. But before he could squeeze away a pass or shot, Disasi closed the yards and deflected behind for a corner. By Dan Davis All of a sudden, Brentford have come to life. They need to capitalise on this momentum and Thomas Frank is urging them forward. By Dan Davis Almost an immediate response from the hosts. Mikkel Damsgaard whipped an inviting corner toward the near post and Yoane Wissa made a dart before nodding onto the roof of the net. By Dan Davis NO GOAL! Villa's quickfire second won't count. Jacob Ramsey was involved again down the far side and he cut back for Ollie Watkins, who in turn teed up Morgan Rogers. He made no mistake in drilling beyond Mark Flekken. But the VAR lines came out, showing Watkins had strayed just offside. A lucky escape for Brentford, who were caught cold there. By Aadam Patel At The Gtech Community Stadium By Dan Davis Villa take the lead and of course it was that man, Ollie Watkins. Jacob Ramsey played the ball into the feet of the striker and he raced into the box before smashing an effort through Mark Flekken. I initially thought the goalkeeper should have done better but the strike did take a wicked deflection as it hurtled toward the net. By Dan Davis Brentford have got a little more spring in their step already. There was also a change at the break for Villa. Matty Cash replaced Leon Bailey. By Dan Davis PEEP! We're off again at the Gtech. Let's hope for a little more action. By Dan Davis Brentford have had just two shots so far, their lowest total in the opening 45 minutes of a Premier League game since October 2022. On that occasion, they also mustered up two against Chelsea. I don't think Thomas Frank will be particularly pleased. By Dan Davis Sky Sports' Lee Hendrie, speaking at half-time: By Aadam Patel At The Gtech Community Stadium By Dan Davis All square at the break. Villa should really be ahead, having missed golden chances through Tyrone Mings and Youri Tielemans. The hosts have threatened on the counter and as my colleague Aadam Patel pointed out, goalkeeper Robin Olsen is looking a little shaky. I'm still feeling goals, so don't go anywhere. By Dan Davis Just the one added minute at the end of this half. By Dan Davis Yoane Wissa brought the ball out on the breakaway after that shocking set-piece and John Mc Ginn muscled him down to the ground. Yellow card. By Dan Davis That took an absolute age, and it really wasn't worth it. Villa were awarded a free-kick in a decent position, around 25 yards out and to the right, but Leon Bailey's effort was buried into the wall. By Aadam Patel At The Gtech Community Stadium By Dan Davis That was an open and shut case. Bryan Mbeumo played through Yoane Wissa and he rounded Robin Olsen before tapping the ball home into the empty net. The offside flag was raised very early but it was an easy call. By Dan Davis Oh! Inches away from the opener! Jacob Ramsey's delivery picked out the head of Youri Tielemans and his bouncing effort saw Ethan Pinnock attempt to clear it. Instead, he skewed the ball just over his own bar. Panic stations. By Dan Davis Youri Tielemans took matters into his own hands after weaving into the box and conjuring a low stop from Mark Flekken. That was a brilliant solo run. By Dan Davis That can't be nice. Fresh from seemingly picking up a knock, Robin Olsen was forced into action again by Keane Lewis-Potter. The midfielder put him to work with a strike from distance but the save was comfortable enough. Olsen's still clutching his back, though. By Dan Davis Yoane Wissa bent a low ball into the danger area and Youri Tielemans threw his body in the way, taking some of the power out. Robin Olsen then scrambled off his line and hacked away into the stand. He may have twinged his back while doing so, though. By Dan Davis There's a brief break in play, allowing players to break their fast. Unai Emery is animatedly giving instructions while Thomas Frank has also used the stoppage to gee up his players. By Dan Davis We may be goalless but this has been an entertaining contest so far. It's just the final ball lacking for both sides. That said, Brentford have been penned back inside their own half since their brief flurry shortly after kick-off. By Dan Davis Brentford are living life on the edge. Ollie Watkins and Jacob Ramsey combined with a neat one-two on the edge of the box, but the latter was eased off the ball by Vitaly Janelt. It looked like it should have been a foul but the referee waved play on. Hmmm. By Dan Davis Huge chance! Villa should be ahead! Youri Tielemans arched a free-kick into the middle of the area and Tyrone Mings wriggled free of his marker to stretch out a foot. His effort was tame, though, and Mark Flekken gathered. By Dan Davis Axel Disasi nodded the ball into the penalty area and a fortunate deflection saw it spill back out to him. His follow-up was on target but Mark Flekken made the save. The offside flag was up again, however. By Dan Davis Villa came forward on the counter and moved the ball across to Jacob Ramsey on the left. He looked up and bend one toward goal. For a second it looked to be heading in, but Nathan Collins did well to crane his head and divert it away at the expense of a corner. The set piece came to nothing. By Dan Davis My word, this game is ebbing and flowing from end to end. Youri Tielemans chanced his arm from distance but his low strike was again smothered by a crowd of bodies. By Dan Davis I'm not quite sure how Brentford haven't scored already, to be honest. Mikkel Damsgaard opened up the visitors with a fine ball to Vitaly Janelt, but his pass to Yoane Wissa was just about cut out. The goal was gaping. Oh hang on, the flag was up anyway. By Dan Davis Villa brought the ball forward through Leon Bailey, who found himself in space inside the box, but his effort was blocked. That took the sting out as it rolled through to Mark Flekken. By Dan Davis More panic in the Villa box! John Mc Ginn cheaply lost possession inside his own box and as Yoane Wissa charged in, Youri Tielemans poked the ball away. By Dan Davis That was an awkward moment for Villa and Robin Olsen. Kevin Schade was released in behind but couldn't quite bring the ball under his spell, allowing Axel Disasi to recover. He then ushered back to Olsen who picked it up, leading the hosts to appeal for a pass back. The referee was unmoved. By Dan Davis It's been a steady start from both sides. Villa have kept the ball well but have been pressed high and forced to go back to Robin Olsen. Ollie Watkins has been booed after his first couple of touches. By Aadam Patel At The Gtech Community Stadium By Dan Davis PEEP! Aaaaand we're off! By Dan Davis Here come the players at the Gtech! Let's get this show on the road. By Dan Davis Right then, folks. Over to you. Let's get some score predictions in the comments. By Dan Davis Unai Emery has revealed why Emi Martinez and Marco Asensio are missing from Villa's squad this evening. Speaking to Sky Sports pre-match, he said: By Dan Davis The Gtech is slowly starting to fill up with around 15 minutes left until kick-off and spirits are high on this gorgeous spring day. Hasn't it been nice to see the sun for once? Palace's win this afternoon means that Brentford were booted down to 12th, but they can move six points behind Manchester City with a win. This is one crazy season. By Dan Davis Let's bring you the full-time scores from the 3pm games. .. The league leaders survived a scare to move SIXTEEN points clear while Brighton snatched a late victory after a 98th-minute penalty. By Aadam Patel At The Gtech Community Stadium By Dan Davis Thomas Frank has urged Brentford to aim shoot for the stars over the rest of the season as his side look to wrap up a spot in Europe. His comments came before their victory over Leicester last month and they are currently unbeaten in their last three. 'We want to push and if we can achieve that it would be a fantastic dream, ' Frank said. 'Let's get three points and maybe down the line we can dream. 'A big target for us is we haven't won two games in a row, so if we want to dream about Euro places we need more consistency. ' By Dan Davis Villa reported for duty at the Gtech in good time. They could really do with all three points this evening to put an end to the rollercoaster form which has derailed their top-four bid. Unai Emery's side are only five points adrift of the Champions League spots but a win will take them right behind Manchester City. A win for Brentford, though, would move them one point off Villa. It's all to play for! By Dan Davis Look away now, Villa supporters. Marco Asensio has been ruled out this evening through injury. He has scored five goals in four matches, having scored braces against Chelsea and Cardiff before converting a penalty in midweek. The extent of his setback is not yet known but I'm sure Unai Emery will provide an update in his post-match press conference. By Dan Davis Villa are without a couple of key men. Unai Emery has made two changes, recalling Robin Olsen and Jacob Ramsey. Emi Martinez has missed out through injury while Marcus Rashford, who has been bright since joining on loan, is on the bench. By Dan Davis It's just the one change for the hosts. Captain Christian Norgaard is back in the side with Yehor Yarmoliuk on the bench. Bryan Mbeuno and Yoane Wissa will dovetail again. By Dan Davis Hello, all. Welcome on board. This has all the makings of a bit of an evening cracker, doesn't it? I'm looking forward to kick-off. Brentford have won three of their last five and are bang in form, with Thomas Frank helping to inspire a late push for the European spots. But the visitors have been consistent in their inconsistency, having won just one of their last seven matches in the Premier League. We'll bring you the team news in just a second and then build up to the first kick at the Gtech at 5. 30pm, so get yourself settled in. Let's do this. The players are now taking on liquid due to the in. ..
