By ROBERT SUMMERSCALES and RIATH AL-SAMARRAI AT THE AMEX STADIUM Published: 02: 57 AEDT, 30 March 2025 | Updated: 06: 00 AEDT, 30 March 2025 22 View comments Follow Mail Sport live blog of the quarter-final clash between Brighton and Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup for the latest score, teams news and updates from the Amex Stadium. By Robert Summerscales Yasin Ayari is replaced by Diego Gomez as Brighton make their third change of the game. Nine minutes to go of the 90. Will we see both sides throw the kitchen sink at this or will it get cagey again? By Robert Summerscales Brighton are forced into another sub as Rutter picks up a knock and has to be replaced by Gruda. Meanwhile, Forest just won a corner kick and before it was taken their fans chanted: 'If we score, we're in the sea. ' Those fans remain dry and it is still 0-0. By Robert Summerscales Brighton make their first subs of the night. Off go Welbeck and Mitoma. On come Joao Pedro and Adringra. By Robert Summerscales The VAR has spoken. No penalty. That looks like the right call. Anderson threw himself down despite no visible contact from Mitoma. The VAR also looked at a possible foul on Yates but ruled that was clean enough too. By Robert Summerscales Brighton clear the initial free-kick but Forest come again straight away. Ryan Yates and Elliot Anderson both fall to the ground in quick succession and referee Peter Bankes decides that Anderson was fouled by Kaoru Mitoma. The VAR might have a look at this. By Robert Summerscales Pervis Estupinan becomes the first player to earn a yellow card after a tangle of legs with Nicolas Dominguez. That probably looked worse than it was. By Robert Summerscales Time for the first changes. Both managers have just given their players an impromptu teamtalk during a break in play. At the end of it, Forest boss Nuno sends on star wingers Elanga and Hudson Odoi for Awoniyi and Danilo. By Robert Summerscales Two Brighton chances in quick succession. Mitoma wins a free-kick in a dangerous position as he is fouled by Aina. Brighton line up four attackers in a line as the set-piece is hung up to the back post, where Jan Paul van Hecke gets a decent header on the ball, only for Ryan Yates to make an important deflection. From the resulting corner, Jack Hinshelwood heads wide from six yards. By Robert Summerscales The second half has started in a lively manner. Both sides have had a corner already, while Georginio Rutter and Morgan Gibbs-White have threatened the goal at either end. Rutter just missed the target, before Gibbs-White forced Verbruggen into work. By Robert Summerscales Brighton kick off at the start of the second half. Lots of substitutes have been doing some serious warm-ups at half-time but no changes have been made just yet. By Robert Summerscales This was perhaps the most interesting moment during the first half. The camera owner did not look impressed though. .. By Robert Summerscales Both sides have had one shot on target but it's still 0-0 on expected goals. Forest have had more possession than Brighton (44% vs 56%), while the visitors have had seven touches in the opposition's box - three more than Brighton have had at the other end. Forest have also had more corners (1-4), while Brighton have committed more fouls (6-2). By Robert Summerscales That was a pretty flat 45 minutes of football. Both sides can take some encouragement from it though. Brighton have not been torn apart so far, like they were by Forest last month. Meanwhile, Forest have looked organised at the back and had moments to worry Brighton on the break. I'm going to make a bold prediction. This game will NOT finish 7-0. By Robert Summerscales Still no yellow cards issued by Peter Bankes, despite Georginio Rutter, Pervis Estupinan and Kaoru Mitoma all committing fouls. None of those fouls did any damage. But the same cannot be said of a powerful shot from Carlos Baleba, who has just destroyed a TV camera than was position a couple of yards wide of the Forest goal. By Robert Summerscales Lots of possession for Brighton in the last few minutes but very little pressure applied on a very well-drilled Forest defence. In contrast, the visitors appear to have Brighton worried whenever they launch a counter-attack. The Brighton fans are urging their team to do more, as loud chants of 'Albion, Albion' ring around the stadium. A wobbly moment for Forest keeper Mats Selz. Pervis Estupinan fires in a speculative effort from long range and Selz spills it but, luckily for him, the rebound falls to a defender. Brighton's best move of the match so far sees Danny Welbeck find Kaoru Mitoma before the ball trickles out to Yasin Ayari. Ayari tries his luck from 25 yards from goal and wins a corner via a deflection. The corner is poorly delivered though. Murillo isn't the sort of guy to mess with. Minteh just clawed a little at his face and presented one of those opportunities to drop and roll. Not Murillo - he just stared at him. All eyes on the next 50-50 between them. By Robert Summerscales Forest are well on top. They've just had two corners back to back, the first of which momentarily caused chaos inside the Brighton box. The home fans have quietened down after a noisy start. By Robert Summerscales The first big chance of the game falls to Forest forward Awoniyi, who hits the target with power from close range, albeit a slightly wide angle. He hits the target but Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen makes a tidy save. By Robert Summerscales The first late challenge of the day sees Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi foul Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke. Van Hecke falls dramatically to the ground. Brighton fans demand a yellow card but Peter Bankes says no. A free-kick and nothing more. Good refereeing. By Robert Summerscales Forest are defending deep with plenty of bodies behind the ball. But they are looking to break quickly and directly whenever Brighton lose possession. This game is only seven minutes old but it already has a real FA vibe about it. By Robert Summerscales Forest have made a solid start. The visitors win the first corner kick of the game, but it is well dealt with by Brighton. Both sets of fans are making plenty of noise as the game gets underway. Ryan Yates takes the kick-off for Forest and we are off! A thought from the warm-ups. Every time I've watched Kaoru Mitoma in the past few years, I convince myself that he's an £80m+ player. In full flight, he can be unplayable and only the finishing is separating him from the next level. Alas, it's probably for the best I have no role in footballing recruitment. By Robert Summerscales Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo when asked why Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi start on the bench: By Robert Summerscales Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler in his pre-match press conference: By Robert Summerscales Nottingham Forest have lost 1-0 in each of their last three FA Cup quarter-finals. They lost to Liverpool in 2022. That loss followed defeats by Aston Villa and Portsmouth in 1996 and 1992 respectively. Forest's last victory at this stage of the FA Cup also finished 1-0, when they beat Norwich in 1991 - the year they lost to Spurs in the final. By Robert Summerscales The winners of this game will become the second team to reach the FA Cup semi-finals this season. Crystal Palace became the first earlier today when they won 3-0 away at Fulham. Tomorrow will see Aston Villa visit Preston, before Bournemouth host Man City in the last game of the round. By Robert Summerscales Both clubs have seen off three opponents to reach this stage of the FA Cup. Forest overcame Luton 2-0 in the third round before needing penalty shootouts to get past Exeter and Ipswich. Meanwhile, Brighton started their FA Cup campaign with a thumping 4-0 win away at Norwich and have since knocked out two Premier League clubs - in Chelsea and Newcastle. By Robert Summerscales This game will be the 44th meeting between Brighton and Nottingham Forest. Their first was back in 1949 in the English Division 3 (South). So far, Forest have recorded 16 wins, while Brighton have been victorious on 13 occasions and there have been 12 draws. The data below, from our friends Squawka, does not include their first four meetings, which all took place in the English Division 3 (South). By Robert Summerscales Brighton captain Lewis Dunk is on the bench. Therefore, Danny Welbeck will skipper the hosts from kick-off, after getting the nod to start ahead of Joao Pedro up front. Brighton XI: Verbruggen, Hinshelwood, Van Hecke, Webster, Estupinan, Baleba, Ayari, Minteh, Rutter, Mitoma, Welbeck Subs: Mc Gill, Dunk, Gruda, Joao Pedro, Adingra, Cashin, Gomez, O'Riley, Tasker By Robert Summerscales With Chris Wood out injured, Forest have called on Taiwo Awoniyi to lead the line today. Other than that enforced change, Nuno has picked a very strong side - despite suggestions he may have considered resting some senior stars to prioritise his team's quest for Champions League qualification. Nottingham Forest XI: Sels, Murillo, Milenkovic, Danilo, Aina, Williams, Anderson, Yates, Domiguez, Gibbs-White, Awoniyi. Subs: Miguel, Morato, Sangare, Hudson Odoi, Toffolo, Moreno, Jota, Elanga, Boly. Nottingham Forest thrashed Brighton 7-0 the last time these two teams met. That was in a Premier League game at the City Ground on February 1. With that in mind, you might suspect that Forest would go into this match as heavy favourites. But no! Brighton are actually rated by most bookmakers as odds-on favourites to win today in 90 minutes. That is not only because they now have home advantage but because, since that dismal display at Forest, they have gone on a seven-game unbeaten run. By Robert Summerscales Good afternoon, all. Wembley beckons for the winners of this semi-final. Brighton are bidding to reach the third FA Cup semi in their history - and a third in seven seasons. But the Seagulls have never won this historic tournament. Meanwhile, Forest have won the FA Cup twice - in 1898 and 1959. But they have not got as far as the semis since 1991. Hope the Forest fans don't bend over in front of t. ..
