NFL NFL Week 15 Shedeur Sanders swapped wristbands with another one of the team's QBs following the Browns' second possession on Sunday, sparking questions as to why. Michael Reaves / Getty Images The Cleveland Browns say the curious case of Shedeur Sanders’ replacement play-call wristband is closed. A day after Browns coach Kevin Stefanski didn’t have a clear answer for why Sanders needed another wristband following their second possession in Sunday’s loss to the Chicago Bears, Stefanski said the card “must have fallen out” and that Sanders swapped wristbands with one of the team’s other quarterbacks. Advertisement Lots of things went sideways for Cleveland’s offensive operation — some of them immediately — in what became an embarrassing 31-3 loss. Still, after local reporters again followed up on why the game’s TV broadcast said the Browns were changing the play sheet, Stefanski followed Sanders’ initial answer, saying the sheet simply fell out at some point after their first drive. “The card just fell out, ” Sanders said Sunday. “It fell out on the sideline. That was it. ” During the game broadcast, Fox sideline reporter Allison Williams said the Browns “removed the wristband with the play calls in there and made a change to one of the sheets and some tweaks. ” Though Williams’ report was vague, it implied that something was wrong with the call sheet. The report led to Stefanski being asked twice in his postgame news conference about whether the Browns had the wrong plays or play calls listed on the card. On Sunday, Stefanski first called the wristband change a “miscommunication, ” then he later said both “yes” and “no” when asked if the Browns had the wrong plays on the sheet. “We got that fixed pretty quickly, ” Stefanski said. With Cleveland at 3-11, there’s been plenty of miscommunication. Sanders was intercepted three times by the Bears, and the Browns failed to reach 200 yards of total offense. Sanders, who has started the last four weeks in an audition for a future role, will look for a bounce-back game and a cleaner operation when the Browns host the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
