Celtic are looking to make it four home wins in a row in the Champions League Champions League: Celtic v Club Brugge Venue: Celtic Park, Glasgow Date: Wednesday 27 November Kick-off: 20: 00 GMT Coverage: Listen on BBC Radio Scotland Extra/Sounds/DAB/810MW, live text commentary on the BBC Sport website, highlights on BBC One and the BBC Sport website and app from 22: 40 Brendan Rodgers is urging his players to "show the power of Celtic Park" against Club Brugge, with the Champions League knockout phase within reach. Celtic have seven points from their four outings, with the Belgians one behind after their 1-0 home win over Aston Villa. Having beaten Slovan Bratislava and RB Leipzig in this campaign, Celtic have won each of their last three home Champions League matches. "We're really pleased with seven out of 12 at halfway, but not just that, it's the performance level, " said manager Rodgers. "In three of the four games we've shown a really high level and the Leipzig game was the culmination of everything we would want; the physicality, pressing, aggression and also the calmness in our defending. " Celtic came from behind to overwhelm the Bundesliga side 3-1 and Rodgers wants to create a similar night for fans to enjoy. "It's another opportunity for us to show the power of Celtic Park, " he said. "We don’t take it for granted but we want to connect with that fire, passion and emotion and bring that on to the field with a level of football that excites. "You can see, when all of that is connected, what it brings. " Fifteen games into the Pro League campaign, Club Brugge are six points behind leaders Genk. The visitors warmed up for their trip to Glasgow with a 7-0 win against Sint-Truidense, with Greek striker Christos Tzolis scoring four. "This will be another big examination for us, " said Rodgers. "Brugge have some fantastic players and a very good coach. They are organised and their frontline is fast and dynamic. "This competition is brutal in terms of the level. The slightest mistakes get punished. You have to be laser focused with your concentration. " Celtic's only loss across 19 matches in all competitions this season was a 7-1 hammering away to Borussia Dortmund on matchday two of the Champions League. "Failure is a part of the journey, " said Rodgers of that sobering result, pointing to a "trampoline effect" from the trouncing, saying: "It can bounce you back higher. " Club Brugge lost 3-0 at home to Dortmund, with their other win coming away to Austrian side Sturm Graz. "We've won 16 games, drawn two and lost one to the Champions League finalists, so that tells me the mentality is there, the spirit, the grit, that we'll never quit in a game, so that gives me confidence, " said Rodgers. Ten is the magic number for Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers, or thereabouts. "Right at the beginning of this competition we outlined how many points we wanted to reach but we've just been taking it game by game, " said the USA international. "It was around 10. “We're in a strong position but it's about adding to that tally and seeing how many we can achieve. We feel as a group we're now close to getting out of this group phase. "There are still four games and we want to get positive results in all of them. It's us against ourselves now in terms of seeing how many we get. " Celtic have no injury or suspension concerns and may well field the same XI that started Saturday's 4-1 victory away to Hearts. Gustaf Nilsson, Bjorn Meijer, Hugo Vetlesen and Hugo Siquet are missing for Club Brugge. Winger Andreas Skov Olsen could feature after making a comeback from injury as a substitute at the weekend. Ferran Jutgla and Joel Ordonez were also on the bench against Sint-Truidense and are expected to start at Celtic Park. Last Updated 26th November 2024 at 18: 06 Please Note: All times UK. UEFA Champions League All competitions This is the first ever meeting between Celtic and Club Brugge – the Bhoys’ eight previous meetings with Belgian opposition have been against KAA Gent (W1 L1), Germinal Ekeren (W1 D1) and Anderlecht (W2 L2). Club Brugge’s only previous European games against a Scottish team was in the 1992-93 UEFA Champions League group stage against Rangers, drawing 1-1 at home and losing 2-1 at Ibrox. Celtic have won two of their four matches in this season’s UEFA Champions League (D1 L1), as many as they won in their previous four campaigns combined (W2 D6 L16). They last won three games in a single season back in 2012-13. Club Brugge have only scored four goals in their last nine UEFA Champions League matches, but two of those goals have resulted in 1-0 wins, beating Sturm Graz on MD2 and Aston Villa on MD4 this season. Brugge’s last five wins in the competition have all been to nil. Celtic have scored nine goals in four UEFA Champions League games this season, their joint most in a single season along with 2012-13. The Bhoys last netted more in a European Cup campaign back in 1977-78 (13). 47% of Club Brugge’s high-intensity pressures in the UEFA Champions League this season have been made in the middle third of the pitch. This is the highest percentage for any side in the tournament, highlighting the Belgian side’s preference to be more aggressive in midfield areas (only 20% have come in the final third). Since the start of 2022-23, only Internazionale (64%) have kept a clean sheet in a higher percentage of UEFA Champions League games than Club Brugge (58%), among teams to feature in more than one season. Club Brugge have five players who’ve played every minute for them in the UEFA Champions League this season (Hans Vanaken, Simon Mignolet, Maxim De Cuyper, Brandon Mechele & Joel Ordóñez); the most of any team in the competition this term. Arne Engles has three assists in his four UEFA Champions League appearances for Celtic this season, the joint most by a Bhoys player in a season along with Charlie Mulgrew in 2012-13 and Matt O’Riley in 2023-24. The only Belgian player with more in a season is Kevin De Bruyne (4 in 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2020-21, 6 in 2022-23). Hans Vanaken scored his 16th major European goal for Club Brugge in their 1-0 win over Aston Villa on MD4, going joint second with Gert Verheyen for Brugge in Europe. Only Raoul Lambert (23 in 43 games between 1967 and 1978) has scored more. © 2024 BBC. The BBC is not responsible for the content of external sites. Read about our approach to external linking.
