" On Jacob Ramsey coming into the starting line up: "Ramsey is a really good player, really happy to have him with us. It's an opportunity for him tonight. " On Lewis Miley also coming into the starting line up: "For me, you have to reward players that come off the bench and do well. He came off the bench and set up the goal against Brighton. It's a great stage for him today. " Newcastle v Benfica (20: 00 BST) Ciaran Kelly BBC Sport reporter at St James' Park This could be quite an atmosphere. Benfica fans had already taken over one of the city centre
bars a few hours ago. And they are making plenty of noise inside St James’
Park. It brings back memories of the visit of Borussia Dortmund a
couple of years ago on a similarly soggy night on Tyneside. Newcastle have gained a lot of experience since that defeat,
though, and this feels like a chance to show it. Alex Howell BBC Sport Arsenal reporter at Emirates Stadium Declan Rice celebrates Arsenal's goal at Fulham. Declan Rice is widely regarded as one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League, but his role for the Gunners now is very different from the one he played in when he arrived at the club. When Rice signed for Arsenal from West Ham for £105m in 2023, he spent the first six months as a more traditional holding midfielder, before he moved to a box-to-box role following a winter training camp in January 2024. That change brought an increase in his attacking numbers, helped by him taking set-pieces, and he carried that into last season as the 26-year-old produced a career-best campaign for goal contributions with nine goals and 10 assists. Martin Zubimendi's presence this season, however, has actually meant Rice taking up a deeper position alongside him, but in a role that allows the Englishman to use his running power to join Arsenal attacks. Rice's recent performances have prompted former Gunners captain Patrick Vieira to describe him as a "complete midfielder". Take a read of Alex Howell's piece looking at how Rice has evolved into an Arsenal all-rounder. FT: Barcelona 6-1 Olympiacos Two goals in a Barca shirt at Newcastle, another two tonight against Olympiacos. Marcus Rashford LOVES the Champions League. Villarreal v Man City (20: 00 BST) Shamoon Hafez Football news reporter at Estadio de la Ceramica No need for goalline technology tonight with the view I've got. I'll let you know if the ball has crossed the line or not. Alex Howell BBC Sport Arsenal reporter at Emirates Stadium Martin Odegaard has said that it is tricky for him to set a date for his return to the Arsenal team because of the manner of the injury. Odegaard came off in the first half off the West ham game with a knee problem after hitting iy in a tackle. The captain said in his programme notes that he had a few days off as he had to rest but is now doing rehab. Odegaard then said the return date is difficult to set as ‘it depends how it goes when he starts back on the pitch’. Arsenal v Atletico Madrid (20: 00 BST) Paul Birch BBC Sport Arsenal's 1-0 win over Fulham at the weekend was built on an eighth clean sheet in 11 matches in all competitions this season. The only goals the league leaders have conceded have been via a 30-yard thunderbolt from Liverpool's Dominik Szoboszlai, one from unstoppable Manchester City forward Erling Haaland and a header by in-form Nick Woltemade at a raucous St James' Park. Only Haaland's came from open play. Arsenal are not just stopping sides scoring, they are denying them as much as a sniff at goal. For the first time since November 2003, during what turned out to be their Invincibles campaign, Arteta's team have not faced a shot on target in back-to-back league matches. Remarkably, the last time they conceded more than two league goals in a game was in December 2023 at Luton Town. Carry on like this and the likes of David Raya, William Saliba and Gabriel will break Chelsea's legendary record for the fewest goals conceded in a Premier League season when the Blues let in just 15 in 2004-05. Barcelona 6-1 Olympiacos All over and it is a big win for Barcelona with Fermin Lopez scoring a hat-trick and Marcus Rashford with two - taking his Champions League tally this season to four goals. PSV v Napoli (20: 00 BST) Napoli’s Rasmus Hojlund has scored seven goals across his eight total Champions League appearances. But Napoli have lost each of their last three away games in the competition and, if they lose here, it would equal their longest losing streak away from home in Europe's top flight - four games between February and December 2017. PSV v Napoli (20: 00 BST) Kevin de Bruyne is enjoying one of his best starts to a season after moving to Napoli on a free transfer this summer which begs the question, did he leave Manchester City a year too early? With all this chat of over-reliance on Erling Haaland on the blue side of Manchester, it's an interesting debate. The Belgian has begun 2025-26 in sparkling form, underlined by two goals from the penalty spot during Belgium's 4-2 win in Wales on Monday night. He has 11 goal involvements in 13 appearances for club and country this season, with three assists and eight goals. It represents his best goalscoring start to a campaign and only twice before has he registered more goal contributions in his opening 12 games, in 2023-24 and 2019-20. What do you think City fans? Newcastle v Benfica (20: 00 BST) Benfica Benfica are without a point after their first two league phase games. After crashing to a surprise 3-2 home defeat to Qarabag, they lost 1-0 at Chelsea and sit 33rd in the 36-team table. However, the Portuguese club are vastly experienced on the Champions League stage and have reached the last-16 in three of the past four seasons.
