Sancho arrived on loan from Manchester United at the start of the season in a deal that included an obligation to buy him for £25m at the end of the campaign. However, Mail Sport revealed last month that Chelsea have the option to send Sancho back to Old Trafford if they are willing to pay United £5m in compensation. Sancho has endured a disappointing season at Stamford Bridge, scoring just twice, leaving Chelsea with a difficult decision to make on his future. But Shaun Wright-Phillips - who played for Chelsea between 2005 and 2008 - has urged the Blues to stand by Sancho, and even suggested a change of position could help the England international find top form. ‘Maybe in the Premier League, he isn’t a winger, ’ Wright-Phillips told Genting Casino. ‘He might be more of a number 10 or an attacking midfielder in terms of getting the ball in different areas rather than having to always try and go past people. Jadon Sancho has struggled to live up to expectations during his loan season at Chelsea Enzo Maresca must decide whether to spend £25m to sign Sancho permanently this summer Shaun Wright-Phillips wants his old club to sign Sancho, and suggested he should be tried in a central role ‘His future might be better through the centre, but that we’re yet to find out. ‘If Chelsea are taking risks on the amount of players they are taking risks on, I don’t think he’s a bad one. We know what he’s already done in a game. If he makes his way back, you’ve got a player on your hands. ’ Sancho has consistently struggled to deliver in the Premier League after joining United for £73m in 2021. He appeared to finally be settling back into life in England when he produced four assists in his first three league games for Chelsea, but his goal involvements have dried up and he has not found the net since December. Wright-Phillips admits Sancho needs to do more, but is still confident he can fulfill his potential in a Chelsea shirt moving forward. 'It seems like [Chelsea] buy with potential in mind and what players can possibly be or become, ' Wright-Phillips said. ‘We all know Jadon’s potential. If Chelsea worked the way Chelsea worked, they would normally sign him, because they know what he’s capable of and they’ve seen him do it. ‘But I think what’s not helping at the minute is that he’s not only scoring, but he’s not creating enough. ‘Cole Palmer, he’s not playing that well. He’s still created 45 odd chances for his teammates, do you know what I mean? ‘You can not play well and still make things happen, with little flashes and little moments. At the minute, for whatever reason, that just isn’t happening for Sancho. ’
