By HARRY BAMFORTH, LIVE SPORTS COVERAGE REPORTER and LEWIS BROWNING, SPORTS REPORTER and OLIVER HOLT, CHIEF SPORTS WRITER and LEWIS STEELE, FOOTBALL REPORTER Updated: 06: 00 AEST, 5 October 2025 621 View comments Follow Daily Mail Sport's live blog for the latest score, team news and updates as Chelsea welcome Liverpool to Stamford Bridge in the Premier League, with Oliver Holt and Lewis Steele reporting from the ground.   Arne Slot clearly doesn't like the capital. Liverpool have now lost each of their last four Premier League trips to London, their longest such run in the capital since another four-game streak between October 2009 and November 2010, which also included a loss at Stamford Bridge (0-2). I mean, it's two on the spin, having lost at Crystal Palace and now, of course, Chelsea. Guess where their next away game is? That's right, it's in London. Liverpool's next trip away from Anfield is to Brentford. Not ideal. Liverpool, well, they are just crumbling. That's three defeats in three games now, and they are looking worse every time I watch them play. It was yet another strange performance from the Premier League champions, who had some decent spells, but overall were far too open again, while being sloppy on the ball. Tactically, I can't quite figure out what Arne Slot is trying to do. Many of his changes don't make sense, and the style of football is just all over the place. I will say, I think it can't be understated that the death of Diogo Jota is having an impact, as Enzo Maresca said before the match. You look at players like Mohamed Salah and Ibrahima Konate, who just look like shells of their former selves. It's a worrying time for the Reds, right now, and not because of the results, but because of the performances. Another bad day at the office. Daniel Sturridge, former Liverpool and Chelsea striker, on Sky Sports: These pictures don't do justice to how bonkers the celebrations were for that late winner. But still, look at the joy. Just sit back and enjoy the limbs. We have seen plenty of late winners these past few weeks, but I'm not sure many beat this one in terms of celebration. Enzo Maresca morphs into Jose Mourinho and races down the touchline, Estevao gets smothered in love, and the Stamford Bridge rattle comes out. One that will be replayed for years to come. My word, this atmosphere. I can't remember the last time I saw Stamford Bridge like this, not a single soul has left from the home stands. As I type this, Estevao is still drinking it all in; the beaming smile on his face is as wide as the Thames. Boy, did Chelsea need that, and they certainly deserved it. They were on the ropes when Liverpool equalised, but come the end of the game, they were the ones pushing the issue. After a month without a league win, Chelsea are back on track. The season of late drama delivers again. This place is going bananas. One Step Beyond is on, and the stands are shaking with glee. Estevao drops to the floor, the Brazilian youngster is the hero here off the bench. Three defeats in a row for Liverpool. It's all kicking off now. Liverpool have lost their heads, for the last few weeks running they have been punished at the death. What is this season? STOPPAGE TIME AGAIN! It's pandemonium at Stamford Bridge, Enzo Maresca is running down the touchline. Chelsea have won it. Liverpool falls asleep at the back, Marc Cucurella takes advantage, and slides it over to Estevao to win it. Maresca is sent off for his celebrations, but he won't care. That's not who you want on the end of that pass. .. . The ball is played in behind Chelsea and that's where you want Hugo Ekitike. But no, it's Curtis Jones who races away, and he shows his lack of confidence by smashing over the bar. Never looked like scoring. THAT WAS THE MOMENT! Enzo Fernandez can't believe it, Enzo Maresca can't believe it, and I certainly can't believe it. Estevao whips in a lovely cross to the back post, but Fernandez can only find the post. I thought he was about to score. Here we go! There are seven minutes of stoppage time, and you know what that means? Lots of time for a winner. My word, that is close. It's almost as if time stops as Dominik Szoboszlai steps onto Mohamed Salah's pass. You think he is going to hammer the ball at goal, but he tries to access it into the corner. It rolls agonisingly wide. Fair play, Jorrel Hato. The young defender has just managed to weasel his way out of a six-man Liverpool press and start a counter. It's ridiculously impressive, and he looks so calm as he plays his way through them. After a failed counter, Moises Caicedo then had a pop at goal again as the crowd cries for him to shoot. But his effort is deflected over. This is like a basketball match. Both teams have thrown defensive responsibilities and have their eyes set on a winner. But, oh, as I say that Arne Slot seems ot have found his conservative side again. Wataru Endo comes on to replace Alexis Mac Allister. There is certainly a winner coming from someone. This game is on a knife-edge; it feels like one pass from either team could unlock the door. And just as I type that, Jamie Gittens sends a pearler toward the far corner, but Giogri Mamardashvilli pushes it away. And then he is needed again to deny Estevao! Florian Wirtz's touch has deserted him again. I thought that after the audacious flick, he had finally arrived, but he has lost it. The ball comes his way on the edge of the area, and he should pull the trigger, but his touch is just terrible. It bounces off both of his legs and then rolls away. Ohhhhhhh. .. . That is so close, so, so close. Ryan Gravenberch almost turns a cross into his own net, but it flies just past the post. He is congratulated, but there is no way that's what he was planning when he put in the slide. Ooooft, that's not a great challenge. Dominik Szoboszlai can't believe it, but he has just picked up a yellow card. To be fair to the Hungarian, upon watching the replay he is harshly done by. That is the last we will see of Alexander Isak. The £125m man has done his bit by setting up the equaliser, and now he is coming off for Hugo Ekitike. At first I don't recognise the Frenchman, he has shaved off his noodle-like curls. A new man. Meanwhile, Jamie Gittens replaces Alejandro Garnacho and Estevao is on for Pedro Neto. Oooooo. .. Alexander Isak is down holding his face, and the Liverpool fans in the corner are going crazy. The Swede is battling with Reece James in the box, and Isak clearly fouled him first before James then brings him down by his face. Just a coming together, nothing more. Liverpool is starting to cause some serious problems for Chelsea. Every time I look up from my keyboard, it's as though the Reds have a promising counter. The latest one leads to an Alexis Mac Allister strike from downtown, but he can't get it through a sea of bodies. This is one hell of a match now. This game is just pure chaos now. Both teams are going hammer and tong at each other with very depleted defences. I'd be stunned if we don't get a few more goals here. You couldn't write this. When it rains, it pours. Josh Acheampong is now down, and Chelsea face the prospect of finishing the game without any centre-backs. I mean, I'm finding it hard to describe just how unlucky the Blues have been. And yep, he can't continue. Full-back Jorrel Hato replaces the youngster. Oh, Mohamed Salah. .. What has happened to the Egyptian King? It's almost like he has lost his crown. He is through down the left and has Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo with him, but he goes alone. It's a terrible finish, and the flag goes up anyway. That was just what Liverpool needed. I was literally seconds away from posting that they had lost their rhythm again, then bang. The fans in the away end are going balmy, they believe again. I have a feeling we could be in for a blockbuster last 25 minutes here. LIVERPOOL ARE LEVEL! Alexander Isak, wow. The Liverpool striker has been brought in for goals, but my word, what an assist that is. He produces the deftest of flicks to shift the ball to Cody Gakpo, who hammers in the equaliser. Game well and truly on. And there we go. Liverpool's lack of defence shows as Marc Cucurella gets away down the left. The defender loops a ball to the back post, which Pedro Neto meets, but his header is deflected wide. This game is so open now. If Alejandro Garnacho thought he had space in the first half, it's nothing compared to how much space he has now. He races down the left unopposed as Liverpool have no numbers back in defence. Chelsea could have a lot of fun here. Florian Wirtz, Curtis Jones, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, and Dominik Szoboszlai are all on the pitch. Let that sink in. Arne Slot has just given up on defending, he is going for it. Oh dear. Benoit Badiashile can't continue, and Enzo Maresca has had to use his brain here. Romeo Lavia is on, which means that Reece James has moved to centre-half. Meanwhile, Arne Slot has gone all in. Andy Robertson and Curtis Jones are on, and Milos Kerkez and Ibrahima Konate are hooked. Bold, very bold. Not another one? Chelsea already has heaps of centre-backs out injured, and now Benoit Badiashile is down and looks in pain. What are they going to do? they don't have any other fit centre-halves. .. Mohamed Salah is starting to purr, guys. The Egyptian has already got in down the right three times this half, and he does so again. One ball over the top and he is away. The winger cuts inside and then tries to do his classic curler into the top corner. But it bends just over the bar. Liverpool already look much, much better. They'd have done brilliantly to win the ball high up the pitch, and then Ryan Gravenberch finds himself in a shooting position. 20 yards out, he has a dig, and it ends up safely in the hands of Robert Sanchez. A positive start to the second half. I've just watched that flick back, and my word, it's just pure filth. To do that with your first touch of the ball is a joke, and this is the lad who is apparently devoid of confidence. Soon it will click with Florian Wirtz, I am telling you. Oh, I thought that was in! What a first touch that is from Florian Wirtz, and I bet he can't believe he doesn't have an assist to his name. Cody Gakpo breaks, shifts it to Wirtz, who then first time provides a stunning flick to find Mohamed Salah. But somehow, he misses the target. Has to score. Arne Slot has obviously seen enough. The Dutchman has turned to Florian Wirtz at the break to try and provide some threat. Conor Bradley makes way, and Dominik Szoboszlai moves to right-back. Could this be the day he arrives at the Reds? Well, we are about to find out as we are back underway at the Bridge. Jamie Redknapp, former Liverpool midfielder, on Sky Sports: We simply have to watch the Moises Caicedo wonderstrike. Yes, we could pick apart Liverpool's defence, giving him so much space, but that would be no fun. Let's just sit and admire the hit from Caicedo, it is struck so, so sweetly. It's unstoppable. Chelsea fans will be watching this on a loop. The World champions lead the Premier League champions. Moises Caicedo's screamer is what separates these two sides, and ever since the opener, Chelsea have completely controlled this game. Once again, it looks like Arne Slot's side has lost all of their confidence. A toothless display. Enzo Maresca will be a happy bunny. We are getting two additional minutes here. I imagine Arne Slot will want half-time, he will want to lay into his players here. Conor Bradley has to be careful here, very careful. Alejandro Garnacho has had the beating of him all half, and yet again the Argentine does him over. Bradley lashes out and gets away with just a warning. remember, he is already on a yellow. I wouldn't be surprised to see him hooked at the break. That was Alexander Isak's moment! This is why they bought Isak, for chances like this, but he has to do better. Mohamed Salah plays a lovely outside of the boot cross for Isak and he gets his head on it, but the ball drifts onto the roof of the net. You have to test the keeper there, really. Dominik Szoboszlai can breathe a sigh of relief. He did put his hands on Alejandro Garnacho, but not enough to warrant a penalty. VAR agrees. Oh, hello. Could things be about to get worse for Liverpool, as there is a penalty check following a foul from Dominik Szoboszlai on Alejandro Garnacho. Well, it could be a foul, but I'm not so sure it is. I knew Pedro Neto was fast, but my word. The boy has got some serious wheels and he has just burned past Virgil van Dijk like it was nothing. He wins a corner, and from it, Alejandro Ganracho finds the ball at his feet. He bends one toward the corner, and it goes inches wide. I thought that was in for a second. Conor Bradley loves a yellow, doesn't he? Well, he's got his customary card here after being rinsed by Marc Cucurella, and I mean RINSED. He shouldn't be allowed back in the ground after that. Milos Kerkez, why not shoot? Finally Liverpool manage to play their way through Chelsea, and Kerkez is slid in down the left-hand side of the area. He should just hammer an effort at goal, but decides to try and square the ball to Mohamed Salah, who has three players around him. Meanwhile, Alexander Isak isn't even in the shot. My word, what is going on? Liverpool's passing is getting worse by the week, and now even Ryan Gravenberch is passing the ball out of play. Mistake, after mistake. Milos Kerkez and Cody Gakpo have clearly not figured out how to play on that left flank together yet. Gakpo tries to play a give-and-go with the Hungarian, and the full-back fizzes a pass out for a Chelsea goal-kick. Things just aren't quite clicking. The Liverpool fans are currently singing about Joe Gomez. I think that is a loaded chant toward Arne Slot to start playing him instead of Ibrahima Konate. The Frenchman has had quite the fall off this season, it's like he has forgotten how to defend. What? I can't believe it. Benoit Badiashile has pretty much just wrestled Mohamed Salah to the ground off the ball, and Anthony Taylor doesn't see it as a foul. That's just bonkers. The midfield change for Liverpool has done nowt so far. The Reds look just as poor as they have in recent weeks, and guess what? Yep, Ibrahima Konate is the worst of them. He has just ballooned a pass out of play to ironic cheers from the Stamford Bridge crowd. It may still be early doors, but it's hard to see where Liverpool's next period of good play comes from. That's a chance, a real big chance. Liverpool suddenly come alive and Cody Gakpo leads the charge down the left. He goes to play the ball to Alexander Isak, but the Swede is offside, so he just races onto his own pass himself. Gapo then pulls the ball back for Dominik Szobioszlai, who lets fly, but he can't get his strike through the sea of blue bodies. Much better from Liverpool. Chelsea have their tails up now, and so does the crowd, it's come alive. There is a huge roar as Joao Pedro looks like he is down the left, but his low cross evades everybody. Liverpool, yet again, look all over the gaff at the back. WOW! What was I saying again? Moises Caicedo has just lit up this game with an absolute rocket. Out of absolutely nothing, Caicedo arrows an absolute barnstormer into the top corner. Giorgi Mamardashvilli has no chance. That sums up these first 13 minutes. Pedro Neto swings in a teasing cross, but it evades everybody in the box and goes out for a goal kick. Both sides haven't got that final ball quite right yet, and a chance doesn't exactly look like it's coming for either team. Dare I say, this is a bit boring. It's fair to say, there haven't been any fireworks since the ones that greeted the teams. Liverpool started well, but Chelsea have since started to get a hold of the ball a lot more. They do both look like teams struggling for confidence, I have to say. Are the Chelsea fans booing Mohamed Salah? Guys, he literally left your club nine years ago, why are you booing him? A bit strange, in my eyes. Alexander Isak is actually touching the ball, my word. The Swede only managed four touches in his 25-minute cameo in Turkey, but he is getting involved quite a lot early doors here. He has just given the ball away, though, so it's not like he is setting the world alight. It will come. Well, Liverpool are doing a little bit better here than they did last season. For one, they haven't conceded yet. By this point in the fixture in May, Enzo Fernandez had already opened the scoring. Instead, it's Liverpool putting the pressure on. Now this is what you call a big game atmosphere. Both sets of fans are making a right racket as the two teams have their final huddles before kick-off. They then take to their positions and off we go at the Bridge! Oooooh, lots of smoke. The players are greeted by a smoke machine like they are in a 90s club as they emerge from the tunnel. I'm not sure about that one. There are some fireworks too, though, which is a much cooler way to welcome the teams onto the pitch. Let's hope they are not the only fireworks we see today. It feels like a big day for Alexander Isak. Unlike the pressure we have seen put on Florian Wirtz, Isak is being given ample time to find his groove since joining Liverpool for a British record fee. I mean, it's fair, given that his summer temper tantrum saw him miss the whole of pre-season. But I doubt that people will be patient for too much longer; they will want to start seeing goals. He hasn't really got going yet, barely even touching the ball in the majority of his appearances, but today is a chance for him to show what he is about. Can he take the opportunity and bag a goal? Cheers, Lewis. Boy, am I excited for this one. I mean, it surely has to be better than the 3pm games I just covered. Not to say they were boring, but. .. they were. Both sides have been in poor form, so who knows what is going to happen at the Bridge tonight, but Chelsea and Liverpool have provided fireworks in recent years when they have faced off. I'm hoping for the same today. Hopefully, we are entertained. The players have been out getting warm at Stamford Bridge. They need to, too - I am freezing. My trusty Apple weather app says it's 14 degrees here, but 'feels like' eight! And on that note, it's time for me to pass you over to another trusty asset in my colleague, Harry Bamforth, who will take you through the game. Enjoy! Vladimir Smicer, former Liverpool midfielder, speaking to Boyle Sports: For the second time in a week - after issues outside the ground before the Galatasaray game - Liverpool fans have had problems getting to the actual football match today. Reports from the Athletic suggest the storm has caused a lot of train issues and alternative routes have been needed. Hopefully everyone heading that way made it on time! By Lewis Browning Peter Crouch, former Liverpool striker, speaking to the Daily Mail at the launch of Paddy’s Sportsbook at The Hippodrome Casino: By Lewis Browning As the full time whistle is blown at the Emirates, Liverpool have, at least momentarily, lost their top spot in the Premier League. They are instead replaced by Arsenal, with Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka scoring for the Gunners in their win over West Ham in north London this afternoon. Liverpool will go back top if they win here, but they may well be up against it! By Lewis Browning Our friends at Squawka have once again provided a stats pack ahead of tonight. What good guys. The numbers are very, very similar. Like, very similar. You can see how Liverpool have created more chances per 90 this season, but the goals scored, goals against and x G are almost identical. I'm hoping that means we're in for a thriller! By Lewis Browning Arne Slot, Liverpool manager: If the reaction is after you lose against [Crystal] Palace you lose another game, you can argue if that is positive. But I saw a team that wanted to try, from the first second until the last second, everything to get a result. Different to the Palace game, we won much more second balls, we were – like in the Palace game – close to a result. I've said many times that last season the margins are so small, and that's the same this season again and we are trying to find the way that is not about luck or bad luck or is not about a set-piece goal scored or against. By Lewis Browning Enzo Maresca, Chelsea manager: By Lewis Browning Both the home and away players have arrived at Stamford Bridge, welcomed by a blue carpet and lots of excited fans. Liverpool look in good spirits despite their back-to-back losses. Chelsea have arguably nothing to lose. 45 minutes until kick off! By Lewis Browning So both sides are without key men tonight. For Chelsea, it's the very main man in Cole Palmer who is the headline absentee. He's got a groin issue, and Enzo Maresca has said that the Blues are assessing the best port of call in how to approach his recovery. Trevoh Chalobah also missing out through suspension, while Liam Delap and Levi Colwill are among the long-term absentees. For Liverpool, they will be relieved that Hugo Ekitike and Federico Chiesa are fit enough to start, but Alisson is set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up an issue in midweek. By Lewis Browning Mohamed Salah is back in the Liverpool team after being benched in midfield, and Alexander Isak also starts, with Hugo Ekitike on the bench. Looks like Conor Bradley will be at right back with Dominik Szoboszlai in an advanced role. By Lewis Browning A makeshift Chelsea side, but they can indeed get one out. Josh Acheampong comes into the defence, with Reece James seemingly in midfield. It looks like Enzo Fernandez will play in attacking midfield, flanked by Pedro Neto and Alejandro Garnacho - who makes his first Premier League start for the club since joining Manchester United. Joao Pedro is fit enough to lead the line. By Lewis Browning Goooood afternoon one and all and welcome to Daily Mail Sport's live coverage of Chelsea vs Liverpool in the Premier League! It's a big one today - and now just because of the size of the two teams in action. Liverpool are looking to avoid a third defeat in a row - yes, a third! - in the capital this evening. After losses against Crystal Palace and Galatasaray, people have been suggesting something is wrong - and today will go a long way to answering whether it is. For Chelsea, it's been a mixed season so far. The lost last time out in the league, but did win in midweek. I think anything that doesn't involve a red card for the Blues today will be a success. .. Anyway, no time to natter - team news is in! Liverpool looks very lost, klop wearing off maybe.
