Livramento sends in a wild cross looking for Gordon, and it flies well out of play for a Chelsea throw. Newcastle get a huge let-off after Woltemade appears to go bundling into Palmer in the box. Cries go up for a penalty, but Tierney won't be moved - it's a goalkick. The replay looks marginal. But in a world where Noni Madueke was awarded a penalty against Bayer Leverkusen. .. Moises Caicedo on a yellow is swapped for Romeo Lavia for a little freshening in the midfield. Chelsea win another corner when Joao Pedro has a shot which takes a deflection. Cucurella calls for a handball, but there's nothing in it. They can't make sense of the corner, but they continue to threaten, up until Fofana attempts an overhead kick and finds only Lewis Hall's torso. James tries to rev up the crowd as he steps up for a corner, but his effort isn't anything to make them clamour. Delap leaps for it, but the ball skews past him and straight into a thicket of players. Almost harmless. Another week, another Chelsea goalkeeper scaring the living daylights out of the fans, as Sanchez makes a dreadful mistake passing to Fofana which Newcastle almost feast on. Fofana topples Gordon to make sure he keeps the ball, risky business for a man on one yellow. But it's cleared. Garnacho fires into a pack of Newcastle defenders in the box after some fine work from Cucurella, and the defender isn't on terra firm to deal with the rebound. Lightning quick, the ball is back in Chelsea's half. The hosts continue to be frustrated here. James sends in a corner which Thiaw is better than, and Chelsea are quickly chasing after Newcastle, with Gordon looking to hit the Blues on the counter. Chelsea scramble and only just save themselves when Gordon leaves it too late to shoot in the box. Delap looks to immediately prove the difference with a shot at Ramsdale's goal, stinging the goalkeeper's palms. He punches it out, but Chelsea have a corner now, starting as they mean to go on. We're back underway at Stamford Bridge, and Palmer looks to strike early, trailing a defender and attempting to spook Ramsdale. The 'keeper stands fast, and there's no real danger. Chelsea regroup on the pitch, without Malo Gusto, and plus Liam Delap. A small tweak from Rosenior, which sends James back to his preferred position.
