Coventry are set to receive a tidy transfer windfall from any future sale of former striker Viktor Gyokeres. The Sweden international spent two years at the Championship club following an initial loan from Brighton. Since leaving English football for Sporting CP in 2023, Gyokeres has gone on to become one of Europe’s hottest strikers, having fired the Portuguese side to the title last season. Gyokeres has netted a staggering 67 goals in 70 games across all competition for Sporting including a hattrick in the 4-1 thrashing of Manchester City in the Champions League earlier this month. With few strikers currently available on the market, Gyokeres has attracted plenty of attention from Europe’s big hitters including Premier League interest in Arsenal and Manchester United. Gyokeres has a release clause of £85million inserted into his contract however reports suggest he could leave for a fee in the region of £50-58m. And that would mean a welcome injection of cash for Coventry due to a sell-on agreement with Sporting. “Viktor has gone crazy in terms of how he has performed, ” Coventry owner Doug King told talk SPORT. “That was a tough negotiation with Sporting Lisbon and if he does move on to somewhere else in his career then we will benefit. “I’m not holding my breath. We are not running the club on that basis, but we will take it. “A large part of that will go to his original club Brighton, everyone seems to think it will go straight in the coffers but it will go down the chain. “You need to be bringing them up from your academy to get the full 100 per cent. ” The 26-year-old has not yet expressed his intention to leave the Portuguese champions despite interest from Europe’s biggest clubs. "It's not something I think about, nor something I give any importance to. It's just rumours, nothing concrete, " he told Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen. "Of course, I want to finish the season at Sporting, I'm enjoying my time there. I don't feel stressed about making a change in the future. We'll see when the time comes. " His budding relationship with recently-appointed Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim could be an indicator of where Gyokeres sees his future. United’s pool of forwards are yet to hit the ground running this season and Amorim could look closer to home to solve the club’s striker crisis. His Sweden teammate Alexander Isak could hold the key to his next destination with Arsenal long-time admirers of the Newcastle star. A summer switch to the Emirates for Isak could hand United free reign to an Amorim-Gyokeres reunion at Old Trafford.
