The U's have started the season with three straight league defeats and shipped six in a humbling Carabao Cup defeat by Brighton on Wednesday. And now? A visit from a Coventry side who have scored 12 goals in their past two league matches. Frank Lampard's men are firing on all cylinders in the opening weeks of the season and they'll want to go into the international break with a real marker set down. Bristol City v Hull City (15: 00 BST) These two teams have spent the past week smarting after last week's results but for altogether different reasons. Bristol City missed out on the chance to continue their 100% start to the league season when Carlton Morris popped up with a late, late leveller for Derby last Friday, while Hull City were surprisingly demolished 3-0 at home by Blackburn the following day. The Robins have a fantastic recent record against the Tigers, with just one defeat in their past 14 meetings. In fact, basically everything would point to a home win here, with Hull having won just one of their past 27 visits to Ashton Gate and today's hosts have lost only one of their past 16 home league games. Sheff Wed v Swansea (15: 00 BST) Naz Premji BBC Final Score at Hillsborough The Owls youngsters dumped Premier League Leeds United out of the Carabao Cup in midweek in a performance that was full of grit, determination and showed just how the Wednesday squad is pulling together. The game was also part of the latest protest with a boycott of the fixture and the crowd was just under 8, 000, normally for a Yorkshire Derby you could expect maybe four times that inside Hillsborough. "Black and Gold till we're sold" continues today and the Swansea City fans have also agreed to take part and there was a planned "teddy bear" protest during the game but that has been postponed until after the international break. On the pitch in the Championship, Henrik Pederson's side picked up a great point coming from 2-0 down against Wrexham and Swansea City boss Alan Sheehan has mentioned in the build-up that today's hosts are a tough team and he is expecting a very difficult afternoon. We are still no closer to knowing if Dejphon Chansiri is discussing a sale with the message coming from various sources that he is trying to cling on to the club. This situation can't continue but in any sale, you need buyers of which I am told there are several, but you also need a willing seller and in Mr Chansiri currently he is refusing to play ball. Sheff Wed v Swansea (15: 00 BST) The off-field issues at Sheffield Wednesday linger on and it's coming to something that it was noteworthy that players and staff WERE paid on time this month. However, despite all of the problems away from the pitch the Owls have shown in the past week that they will put up a fight this season. Henrik Pedersen's men showed real character to battle back from 2-0 down at Wrexham last Saturday to take point before a very young side beat Premier League Leeds on penalties at Hillsborough on Tuesday in a game played in front of almost as many away fans as home after the supporters' trust asked Wednesday fans to boycott the fixture. There's been a real binary look about visitors Swansea's league results so far this season. The Swans lost their opener 1-0, then won 1-0 and drew 1-1 last week. Millwall v Wrexham (15: 00 BST) After three promotions in as many
years, is the Wrexham juggernaut finally slowing down? The upwardly mobile Red Dragons have
gleaned just a single point from their first three Championship fixtures – and even
that was a struggle after Sheffield Wednesday, a club beset by greater
problems, fought back from two down to draw 2-2 last weekend. So The Den is probably the last place
Phil Parkinson’s team would wish to find themselves as they renew their search
for that first victory at Championship level. That said, Millwall were beaten
in their first home game of the season a fortnight ago, when Middlesbrough trio
Hayden Hackney, Alfie Jones and Delano Burgzorg all scored without reply in the
second half. That’s been the only blot on the
Lions’ landscape so far, however. They triumphed 2-1 away to Norwich on the opening
day and then held onto Luke Cundle’s first-half strike to take all three points
at Sheffield United last time out. All of which supports the evidence
that Millwall don’t really ‘do’ draws – having won 10 and lost six of their
last 16 Championship fixtures stretching back to February, when they shared the
points with Preston at Deepdale. Watford v Southampton (15: 00 BST) Joshua Adu-Donkor Final Score at Vicarage Road A gloomy day in Hertfordshire ahead of this Championship encounter between Watford and Southampton. A fixture that Saints have dominated as they are unbeaten in their last nine visits to Vicarage Road. So, no surprise speaking to a few Watford supporters' nerves are staring to kick in ahead of kick-off. However, Watford are unbeaten since the opening weekend and slaying old demons in the Southampton would be a perfect way to end the international break. Watford v Southampton (15: 00 BST) It might not be wise to make an early dash for the exit
at Vicarage Road this afternoon – recent meetings between Watford and
Southampton have shown a tendency to generate late goals. The teams faced off on four occasions during the
2023-24 campaign, including an FA Cup fourth round replay that came about
thanks to Stuart Armstrong’s late equaliser for Saints in the original tie. In the Championship, Rhys Healey struck an
injury-time goal to earn the Hornets a 1-1 draw at home – and Flynn Downes’
winner arrived as late as the 99th minute when play-off bound Southampton
snatched a 3-2 success later in the season. Back to the here and now, the two sides lock horns
with almost identical records from their first three games – a win, a defeat
and a draw apiece and zero goal difference. Saints arrive in Hertfordshire boosted by a trio of
signings in the last 48 hours, with West Brom winger Tom Fellows following hot
on the heels of midfield duo Finn Azaz and Casper Jandar from Middlesbrough and
FC Nuremberg respectively. Portsmouth v Preston (15: 00 BST) Porsmouth's survival last season was built around their form at Fratton Park - they were the eighth best performers at home in the Championship with 11 of their 14 wins coming on the south coast. An opening loss at home to Norwich City has at least been offset by four points from trips to Oxford and West Brom respectively. Pompey are still searching for additions to their squad before the transfer window closes on Monday. "Monday could be quite busy but it depends how much gets done over the next couple of days, deadline days tend to be busy anyway and we'll keep an eye out to see what'd going on, " boss John Mousinho told BBC Radio Solent. Mousinho's summer business is already reaping rewards with Australian forward Adrian Segecic having scored two goals. Preston arrive at Fratton Park with a bit of a point to prove on the road, albeit they are unbeaten this season. Paul Heckingbottom's side are winless in their past eight away trips and since April last year have managed only three victories in 29 attempts. The Deepdale side are seen as one of the 'have nots' in the division with the head coach keen to add to his squad before Monday while recognising their limitations. "We need help if we want to keep competing, " he told BBC Radio Lancashire. "I think we need to do more and need more help, but we're doing it in our way. If it was all about finance then we wouldn't have won our last two games. " Home bankers against travel-sick visitors but both sides will fancy their chances today. Blackburn v Norwich (15: 00 BST) Steven Wyeth BBC Final Score at Ewood Park Norfolk-born, Norwich City-raised Todd Cantwell plays against them for just the second time today. He was still at primary school when he joined the youth system at Carrow Road and was with the club for 15 years before moving to Rangers. Today he captains Blackburn Rovers against his boyhood club, having only previously faced them in March when these sides drew 1-1 here. His name was booed by the travelling support when read out by the stadium announcer at Ewood Park. Blackburn v Norwich (15: 00 BST) Losing your captain to a divisional rival is never a great look but Lewis Travis is no longer a Blackburn Rovers player and the Lancashire club must move on. The midfielder joined Derby on Wednesday and Rovers are being heavily linked with a move for Sunderland's Alan Browne as a replacement. Japan international Ryoya Morishita arrived from Legia Warsaw this week and there is a bit more of a spring in the step of boss Valerien Ismael after their first win of the season last week at Hull City. Norwich went to great lengths to pluck boss Liam Manning from Bristol City in the summer - a homecoming for the Norfolk-born head coach but it hasn't quite hit the right notes yet. Losing both their opening home games was disappointing, losing influential midfielder Marcelino Nunez to East Anglian rivals Ipswich Town this week was devastating to many City fans. Captain and leading scorer Josh Sargent continues to be linked with a move away from Carrow Road - having lost Nunez in the manner they did, losing Sargent might be a step too far. Ipswich v Derby (15: 00 BST) Ipswich's relegation from the Premier League was as predictable as it was painful - 14 defeats from their 19 home games and just one win tells a sorry story. What has been less expected is their lacklustre start to their Championship return with two limp draws and a defeat to show for their efforts, so boss Kieran Mc Kenna has gone about a squad rebuild. Signing midfielder Marcelino Nunez from East Anglia rivals Norwich City for £10m is a sign of intent and last night there was the addition of Norwegian forward Sindre Walle Egeli from Danish club FC Nordsjælland. Darnell Furlong has also arrived from West Brom this week as Mc Kenna searches for a winning formula. Derby arrive in Suffolk having already shipped nine goals in their opening three games - optimism was high after last season's great escape but, like Ipswich, that hasn't been reflected on the pitch. Scotland full-back Max Johnston and Blackburn midfielder Lewis Travis have joined this week as John Eustace looks to put his stamp on the squad. Given the number of new faces there might be a few handshakes among team-mates before kick-off today and trying to remember each other's names. .. All games kick off at 15: 00 BST FT: Stoke 0-1 West Brom Tony Brown West Brom's all-time record scorer on BBC Radio WM The back-four played like a unit today and were unbreakable at the back. They deserve the applause from the fans. I've been so impressed with them, and the whole side. FT: Middlesbrough 1-0 Sheff Utd Neil Maddison Former Middlesbrough midfielder on BBC Tees I can't help but give 10 out of 10 for every player on that football pitch. It was a huge game heading into the international break, and it's hard to not get carried away with this, but it's four wins out of four! Just listen to the stadium right now. The boys will be sending all these fans home happy tonight. QPR 3-1 Charlton That's pretty much the final action of the game and, for the second week running, Richard Kone scores in added time. On this occasion, though, it seals QPR's first victory of the campaign. Richard Kone (90+7 mins) It's game over now. .. Rumarn Burrell glances on Esquerdinha's clearance and Richard Kone gallops away to fire past Thomas Kaminski. Rangers will take the points. Middlesbrough 1-0 Sheff Utd Boro retain their 100% start to the season, Sheffield United slip to a fourth straight loss. Tommy Conway's tidy finish from a pass from debutant Matt Targett is the difference and Rob Edwards' men will spend the international break atop the table. Unless Oxford lose heavily to Coventry later today, the Blades will spend the next two weeks at the foot of the table. Some away fans chanted 'you're getting sacked in the morning' at Ruben Selles during the match and these are tough times for the South Yorkshire side, who have now failed to score a goal in seven successive halves of league football. QPR 2-1 Charlton Charlton are applying the pressure and Tyreece Campbell wins a throw-in which is half-cleared, but substitute Ibrahim Fullah can't get his shot on target. Time's almost up. .. Middlesbrough 1-0 Sheff Utd The Blades win a corner and goalkeeper Michael Cooper is up. Boro clear. Middlesbrough 1-0 Sheff Utd Neil Maddison Former Middlesbrough midfielder on BBC Tees Callum Brittain has been absolutely brilliant and he deserves the standing ovation from fans. He is getting better and better and better. What a player he's becoming for the Boro. Last Updated 30th August 2025 at 15: 00 Please Note: All times UK. Tables are subject to change.
