James Mc Clean won 103 caps for Republic of Ireland, scoring 11 goals The English Football League is investigating crowd incidents during Wrexham's League One fixture with Shrewsbury Town on Thursday. Stewards formed a barricade as Wrexham's James Mc Clean went to take a throw-in in front of Shrewsbury's supporters in the second half of the contest at The Croud Meadow. Play was briefly halted as a result, with footage showing objects being thrown from the stands in the direction of Mc Clean - who made derogatory comments about Shrewsbury on his Instagram account after Wrexham's 2-1 defeat. The post was later deleted. Speaking to Sky Sports about the incident involving Mc Clean, Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson said: "He's fine. James is used to it wherever he goes. "Fans get on his back home and away and sometimes it can be tough and spill over but he is used to it. " It remains unclear if Mc Clean's social media post is being investigated, but Wrexham have confirmed the EFL is looking into the crowd incidents during their cross-border derby with Shrewsbury. "We will be making no further comment at this stage. " The Football Association (FA) is also understood to be looking at the matter. Shrewsbury have been asked for comment. In 2023, winger Mc Clean - who predominantly operates at wing-back for Wrexham - revealed he is autistic. Mc Clean's youngest daughter is autistic and her diagnosis led to the footballer having his own test, called an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) assessment. The condition can affect how a person communicates and interacts with others and the world around them, as well as their interests and behaviour.
