One game down, five more to go on weekend 13 of the 2025-26 Women's Super League season. Here's what's in store over the next few days: Saturday Sunday * All at 11: 55 GMT Here's what that big away win for Brighton means in terms of the table. The Seagulls soar up to sixth, while Everton are left looking over their shoulders in 10th. FT: Everton 0-1 Brighton Brighton & Hove Albion Brighton interim boss Chris Roberts speaking to the WSL world feed about his side scoring just before half time: "We had a really good spell in the first 20-25 minutes and then we probably scored in their best spell of the half, which is vital. We didn't have as much of the ball so to get a goal in that moment is huge for us. "Then of course at half time it was about being calm and making sure we understood the game plan for the second half. The girls were fantastic and took so much responsibility in the press and shutting off the dangerous Everton attacks. You have to be really alert and they were really good today. " FT: Everton 0-1 Brighton Brighton & Hove Albion Brighton interim boss Chris Roberts speaking to the WSL world feed: "Delighted. This is a difficult place to come and they are a difficult opponent to play. Tactically they are very good and they have some very technical players, so I am so proud of the group and the way that they managed the game. "We controlled it without the ball for large periods and there was also some excellent play, I would just like us to be a bit more clinical and sustain our attacks a bit longer. We need to work a little bit on the decision making in the final third, but overall we limited them to very few chances and on the road that's hard to do. A clean sheet, three points, and we're really happy. "It's been a tough week for the group so to get two wins on the bounce and put in that performance on the road - I couldn't be more proud. " FT: Everton 0-1 Brighton Izzy Christiansen Former England midfielder on Sky Sports I expect Everton to be higher in the table than they are. Everything is a process and they are battling against some top teams. I just look at that team at the moment and I can't put my finger on why they're not progressing. FT: Everton 0-1 Brighton Everton Everton boss Brian Sorensen speaking to Sky Sports: "I think that's a tough one. We tried to do everything we possibly can to leave everything out there but need that little bit of fine margins to go our way, but it didn't unfortunately. Super disappointed of course. There's nothing we can do now, we just have to keep working. " On not taking their chances: "In this league you have to take them. Really, really devastated, of course. " On not winning at home yet this season: "Sometimes I don't think it's about home or away or anything, it's more where we as a team, as a unit, and today with what we have available, we gave everything we could. It wasn't to be, unfortunately. "Defensively we are solid. We play really well through their lines, maybe second half we can be braver, but otherwise, we create the chances, especially in the first half when we are on top and they score totally against the run of play. You just need to keep believing, keep working. " FT: Everton 0-1 Brighton Nikita Parris London City Lionesses forward on Sky Sports There's a lot of deflation, naturally when you lose again at home. You want it to be a fortress and you want to make it difficult. There's going to be a lot of disappointment in that dressing room. But somehow they've got to find a way to win. FT: Everton 0-1 Brighton Brighton & Hove Albion Brighton forward Jelena Cankovic speaking to WSL world feed: "I'm just happy to win the game and to win three points away, which is really important. I think we really controlled the game in the first 20-25 minutes, then we lost a bit of control, but we still kept the composure, kept the clean sheet and out of one pressing moment we scored the goal. "We want to have the ball as much as possible, but we also want to be really aggressive and high pressing. It is also really important that if the other team has the momentum that we keep the composure, be compact and keep the clean sheet, which we did today. We just need to be ready for all types of moments that happen in a game. "I'm happy I could contribute and score a goal. It was really good from Kiko [Seike] to win the ball high and when we win it that high we can score quick. For me it wasn't that hard to score, a really good assist. " FT: Everton 0-1 Brighton Izzy Christiansen Former England midfielder on Sky Sports I look at the Everton squad and the personnel on paper excites me. It's a horrible run they are on - I can feel it for them. When you lose it's horrible, when you win with Everton it feels like you've won the Champions League. Everton needs to be the club that expects to win. FT: Everton 0-1 Brighton Everton Everton boss Brian Sorensen speaking to the WSL world feed: "I think we were hard done by. We did everything that we can and the girls left everything on the pitch. We just need those margins to fall our way. "Super frustrated. In this league you don't get 10-15 chances, but the ones you do get you need to put away. I thought defensively we were very good. The Brighton front three are all very good players and I thought we kept them quiet, but it wasn't enough. " On conceding just before half-time: "We were on top in that period, for around 15 minutes, going at them and creating a couple of good opportunities, so it came against the run of play, and that is always tough. There is not much else we can do other than keep the head high and keep believing. "It's just the little margins. We need to stick to what we do and keep doing it. " FT: Everton 0-1 Brighton Brighton & Hove Albion Brighton Jelena Cankovic speaking to Sky Sports: "I'm just happy for three points. It's really important for us and really important to get our first win this year. I'm glad I could contribute to that. It's a tough away game but we come out of it with three points, so really, really happy for that. "We really had the control, especially the first 20 minutes and I think even in some situations they played out of our pressure but we kept the composure. We won the ball once, scored the goal, that's really big for us. Just to keep the clean sheet is also really important. " On her goal: "I'm just happy that I could score and it was really good pressing from us, and Kiko [Seike] won the ball. And to win it so high, we can just go and score quick. Kiko with the assist, she's been really contributing to the team this year, and she keeps bringing goals and assist and I'm happy for that. " FT: Everton 0-1 Brighton Nikita Parris London City Lionesses forward on Sky Sports Everton are all disjointed. They need to have more of a system which allows their players to be more effective. The players don't suit the system during key moments of the game. Especially when they're pressed in the final third. Everton looked shaky in their own final third in moments. FT: Everton 0-1 Brighton Everton have now lost the joint-most games in the Women's Super League this season (nine), along with West Ham. This was their third straight defeat, a fate they did not suffer at all in 2024-25. The last game they did not lose? A 1-0 win at Chelsea, ending their hosts' record 34-match unbeaten run on their own patch. FT: Everton 0-1 Brighton A game of many chances, and in the end it was Brighton that made one of theirs count. That's now four WSL wins in a row for the Seagulls over the Toffees. Use the Get Involved button This is what I said earlier, that Everton will kick themselves. Dreadfully frustrating for the home fans. David FT: Everton 0-1 Brighton Izzy Christiansen Former England midfielder on Sky Sports Everton have not won at home since they moved to the very prestigious, historic Goodison Park. It's a fantastic move for the club, but to not get a win yet, there's been tight games there. Manchester City at home they lost 2-1, it was tight. There were a few other games where they've been in it but the fans are well within their rights to feel that because they want to see their team win. FT: Everton 0-1 Brighton Sue Smith Former England forward on Sky Sports Jelena Cankovic is my player of the match. The fact that she got the goal, chances created and shot-creating actions, she was first in all of them. Brilliant performance from her. Everton 0-1 Brighton Brighton's travel sickness is cured thanks to Jelena Cankovic's first-half strike. Three points and a clean sheet on the road takes them into the top six. It's more misery for Everton as they slump to a sixth defeat in six home games. The home fans still left inside Goodison Park greet the final whistle with raucous boos. Brighton's win was their first in the league since December 7 At a glance Everton are yet to pick up a point at Goodison Park since switching to the ground at start of the season Jelena Cankovic slotted Brighton in front with first league goal this season Chiamaka Nnadozie made an outstanding late save to deny Everton's Maz Pacheco PLAYER RATINGS Everton's wait for a first point at Goodison Park this season continued after Brighton handed them a sixth consecutive home defeat in the Women's Super League. Kiko Seike blocked Everton defender Martina Fernandez's clearance and cut the ball back for Jelena Cankovic to net the winner four minutes before half-time. It was the Serb's first league goal of the campaign. Everton's best chance of an equaliser came in the 81st minute when Melissa Lawley caused problems and the ball deflected into the path of fellow substitute Maz Pacheco, but Seagulls keeper Chiamaka Nnadozie raced off her line to deny her from close range. Nnadozie had already made another fine save five minutes into the second half, recovering well after passing the ball straight to Toni Payne and keeping out the forward's finish. Despite those chances, Brighton were the better team for much of the match and almost added a second in the 53rd minute when Cankovic's shot from a few yards out was caught by Everton keeper Courtney Brosnan. The Seagulls moved up to sixth in the table with their first league win since December 7, while a ninth loss from their 13 league matches kept the hosts in 10th spot. Everton are four points clear of bottom side Liverpool, but all eight of their points have come away from home. Everton made Goodison Park the largest dedicated women's stadium in the country when they moved into the 113-year-old former Everton men's ground this summer. They had played there, and won there, before the announced switch, beating Liverpool 1-0 in the Merseyside derby back in November 2024. But the club have not benefited from the move as they had hoped. Instead, Everton have become just the fifth team to lose their first six home games of a WSL season. Their last home success was at Walton Hall Park in March 2025 when they cruised past bottom club Crystal Palace 3-0. The only time they have avoided defeat in front of their own fans this term was in the League Cup in October when they beat Championship side Nottingham Forest on penalties following a 1-1 draw. Against Brighton they were largely outplayed and never looked like creating history with that elusive first victory. With Payne delivering three dangerous crosses into the box, the absence of French striker Kelly Gago was felt. She was left out of the squad after the 27-year-old told French newspaper L'Equipe that Everton had blocked a move to Paris St-Germain. Everton boss Brian Sorensen, managing his 100th game in charge of the club on Friday night, said Gago was "free to go" if another club met the release clause in her contract.
