Carlos Alcaraz emulated his 'inspiration' Cristiano Ronaldo after scoring his first Everton goal. The midfielder grabbed the winner as the Toffees beat Crystal Palace 2-1 on Saturday night. Everton restored their lead during the second half after Alcaraz had earlier teed up Beto to score. The loanee then converted from close range to snatch all three points from Selhurst Park for David Moyes' side. After scoring, Alcaraz celebrated by pulling off Ronaldo's trademark 'Siu' celebration in front of the travelling fans. Having signed on loan from Flamengo on deadline day, the strike was his first for the club. However, it could see Alcaraz teased by his international teammates if he is recalled by Argentina in the future. Alejandro Garnacho previously faced the same fate over his love of Ronaldo, who he played with at Manchester United, after joining up with Lionel Messi and Co on international duty. The United winger has also emulated the five-time Ballon d'Or winner's celebration after scoring in the past. Argentina teammate Leandro Paredes revealed Garnacho had been 'teased' for it by the rest of the squad. He told DSports in December 2023: "We joked about it with him. He is very shy and does not answer. Poor guy, we drove him crazy. "We also talked to him about what the group is, somehow we try to make them feel part of it and feel comfortable. Although in this case he got very nervous and couldn't talk. "But as he said, I think he is his idol, he always followed him a lot and he plays quite similar. So it's normal, nothing happens. "Obviously, when he comes to the national team he has to change a little bit because there is ours. " Meanwhile, Alcaraz's tribute to Ronaldo comes after he lauded the Portuguese as his idol last year. After signing for Juventus, the 22-year-old told the club's media channels: "As a kid, I always liked Cristiano Ronaldo. He was an inspiration. " He added: "When I played for Racing Club, I really liked one of my teammates, Zaracho. He was a great example, but Cristiano was the greatest inspiration. He is my role model. " Alcaraz spent the second half of last season on loan with the Old Lady from Southampton. His arrival came over two years on from Ronaldo's three-year spell at Juve ended. The forward scored 101 goals in 134 matches between 2018 and 2021 as well as winning five trophies with the club. Alcaraz's winner on Saturday means he now has two goal contributions in three appearances for Everton. The Toffees have the option to make his loan move from Flamengo permanent at the end of the season. © 2025 talk SPORT Limited
