Jude Bellingham’s first European Super Cup ended with an assist, a trophy and a yellow card - but thankfully no broken leg. The English megastar was straight back at it after his Euro 2024 exploits, starting for Real Madrid against Atalanta and getting involved in the scoring. Bellingham assisted Kylian Mbappe’s first goal in Real white in the 2-0 win, and got to lift his second European trophy after the Champions League in June. However, one moment of contention will have left him thankful that the trophy was all he came away with. In the 34th minute of the match the midfielder belted into the box, tricking the entire Atalanta midfield and defence, with Vinicius Junior instead spotting him. The Brazilian lifted a near perfect cross into his teammate's path in the box, and after chesting the ball down, Bellingham was right at the feet of Atalanta goalkeeper Juan Musso. The pair collided in an effort to stop the game’s opener, with Bellingham poking his right foot towards the ball as Musso smothered it. The Madrid no. 5 quickly sprung up as the contact happened and had his hand over his eyes, and upon viewing replays it was easy to see why. Bellingham’s leg and ankle bent nastily upon collision with Musso’s shoulder, and the midfielder was incredibly lucky to walk away from the incident. However, he did walk away with one unfortunate addition, a yellow card from Swiss referee Sandro Scharer. Thankfully for Real Madrid it was not another injury with Eduardo Camavinga set to be out for several weeks after a knee injury in training. Despite his grievances, Bellingham had a very successful night in Warsaw, teaming up with Mbappe for what was a virtually unstoppable goal, sending a warning to the rest of Spain and Europe. Discussing his new teammate post-match, Bellingham said: “I thought he was amazing before, but now I’ve had the chance to play with him you see the details a little bit closer. “The speed, the quality, the work without the ball and how he is as a leader, I can’t speak highly enough of him. “It’s a big step for him, people have been talking about him coming here for a long time and it feels like he’s been here for a while, he’s settled straight in. ” Speaking to TNT Sports, he added: "We have a new-look team. “It seemed to click tonight – sometimes it takes a bit of time. The first half, we were still adjusting, but the second half it all came together and we were brilliant. We've got to enjoy nights like tonight.
