Mesut Ozil has given fans an insight into the remarkable gains he's made in the gym over the course of a year. The 35-year-old called time on his glittering career in March 2023, citing injury woes as a key reason why he elected to hang up the boots. However, Ozil elected not to remain in football and has instead put all his energy into the gym. It looks like Ozil's dedication to gym life has paid off, as a video uploaded by his personal trainer Alper Aksac showcased the former Germany international's body transformation over the course of a year. The clip begins by showing a fit but lightweight Ozil conducting various weight exercises in the gym. Halfway through, the video then showcases the physical beast Ozil has now become, with veins bulging out of his biceps and forearms. Aksac captioned the post: "One years (sic) challenge". Aksac first posted a workout video of Ozil on July 7 last year and has uploaded various other pictures and clips of the two in the gym. The Turkish personal trainer has also conducted workouts with Ozil's wife, Amine. Ozil has posted some of his gym workouts on his own Instagram, with former teammates Cristiano Ronaldo and Bacary Sagna commenting on them. Underneath a clip of Ozil working the battle ropes and pushing a weighted sled, Ronaldo posted a winking emoji and wrote: "Bro not bad". The same post of Ozil pushing the sled also gained 1. 8million likes on Instagram. Ozil has not been shy in showing off his remarkable physique on his own page, either. A picture of the 35-year-old pulling up a sleeveless orange hoodie and displaying his shredded six-pack amassed over 2. 2million likes on Instagram. Ozil's bulked-up body is a significant change from the physique he boasted during his playing days. An attacking midfielder, Ozil had a small and slight frame and was criticised at times for his lack of physicality. Despite his stature, Ozil helped Germany win the 2014 World Cup and played a key role in Arsenal taking home four FA Cup trophies from 2014 to 2020.
