Lionel Messi appeared to lose his cool during Inter Miami's Club World Cup exit. The MLS side were thrashed 4-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 on Sunday. Joao Neves scored twice along with a Tomas Aviles own goal and Achraf Hakimi strike for the Champions League winners. Messi was unable to inspire his current side to a comeback against his former club. Meanwhile, footage has now emerged appearing to show the 38-year-old lashing out at a PSG player. The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner was filmed by a fan closing down midfielder Vitinha. As the Portuguese international evaded Messi's challenge, though, he was almost struck by his opponent's outstretched right arm. It comes after a heated clash between the pair during their time as team-mates in the French capital. Messi hit out at Vitinha as they exchanged words during a training session in 2023. According to L'Equipe, he told the then 23-year-old: "Not only are you bad, but you’re also hurting me. " The brutal comment prompted Vitinha to seek a move away from the club before being convinced to stay by team-mate Danilo Pereira. Vitinha has since developed into a key player for Luis Enrique's side in the last two seasons. His involvement at the Club World Cup follows a treble-winning campaign with PSG. The club won the Champions League for the first time in their history in May to add to their Ligue 1 and Coupe de France victories. They will be hoping for further glory after reaching the last eight of this summer's expanded global tournament. Vitinha has played every minute of their campaign so far, scoring once and providing two assists. He will be expected to be included once again as PSG face Bayern Munich on Saturday. The winner will then advance to the semi-finals, with their tie to be played on July 9. Bayern reached the last eight in similarly impressive fashion on Sunday. Harry Kane was on the scoresheet as they beat Flamengo 4-2 in Miami. © 2025 talk SPORT Limited
