By HARRY BAMFORTH and JAMES SHARPE AT CRAVEN COTTAGE Published: 23: 45 AEDT, 5 January 2025 | Updated: 02: 58 AEDT, 6 January 2025 40 View comments Follow Mail Sport for the live score, team news and latest updates of the Premier League game between Fulham and Ipswich Town at the Craven Cottage. By Harry Bamforth What. A. Match. Darren Bond brings an end to what has been one of the most entertaining games I have watched all season. Fulham twice had to come from behind to earn a point at the Cottage and needed two penalties to get it done. Ipswich also had their own spot kick which they thought would end up winning the game. But you can just never keep Fulham down. By Harry Bamforth Oh my word. .. Jack Taylor has his Steven Gerrard to Thierry Henry moment as he plays a terrible ball back into the path of Raul Jimenez. The Mexican is through if he can reach it, but Taylor's blushes are spared as he doesn't. Taylor's hands were on his head as he realised where that ball was heading. By Harry Bamforth What is it about Fulham and late goals? Whenever the Cottagers are involved there always seems to be some sort of dramatic finish. Ipswich will be gutted, but now they need to just hold onto this point. They have struggled doing that before this season. .. lots. By Harry Bamforth This game is far from over. .. Just after Raul Jimenez's penalty hit the net the board went up to show seven minutes of storage time. Will we get a winner? By Harry Bamforth Never. In. Doubt. Raul Jimenez saw Liam Delap's penalty and thought 'I can do better than that'. The Mexican scores his second spot kick off the match, and in some style as he lifts it calmly into the top right corner. We are level again. By Harry Bamforth This is getting silly now! I was just typing about how Jack Clarke has just hit the post and then Fulham are awarded another penalty. Raul Jimenez twists and turns in the box before being hacked down by Leif Davis. That's now three spot kicks in this match. .. By Harry Bamforth Liam Dealp's work is done. He strolls off the pitch after another effective shift in which he has Ipswich on their way to a second successive win. Delap is replaced by Ali Al-Hamadi up top. By Harry Bamforth Time is running out for Fulham here and they don't particularly look like scoring. The crowd is growing frustrated, the groans per minute are at around five or six right now. That's an average of a groan every 10 seconds. They ain't happy. By Harry Bamforth More substitutions. .. Marco Silva turns to the pacy Adama Traore to try and unlock the door, talking off Sasa Lukic. Meanwhile, Kieran Mc Kenna brings on both Jack Clarke and Wes Burns for the final 10 minutes. By Harry Bamforth I am struggling to keep up here, jeez. It's all going on, the action is simply unrelenting. Ben Johnson gives away a cheap free-kick and ends up picking up a yellow card. The ball is then whipped into Raul Jimenz before I get the chance to write this post and Raul Jimenez heads it wide. He should score, that's a big miss! By Harry Bamforth I don't think the Fulham fans are happy, even the children are swearing. I have just heard a child scream at Dara O'Shea for taking too long to take a throw-in. My guess would he could be as young as 12. .. Football really does age children too young, doesn't it? This one is going absolutely berserk. By James Sharpe At Craven Cottage By Harry Bamforth There is simply no time to take a breath at Craven Cottage right now. Thankfully Kieran Mc Kenna gives us some respite as he makes a couple of changes. Kalvin Phillips and Jack Taylor are on for Sammie Szmodics and jens Cajuste. Can the Tractor Boys hold on? By Harry Bamforth What a penalty! Liam Delap exuberates confidence as he smiles in Bernd Leno's face before stepping up. He then smashes the ball into the right-hand corner with some oomph, sending the keeper the wrong way. Just like that, Ipswich are back in front. By Harry Bamforth YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! 21 seconds after the restart Darren Bond is pointing to the penalty spot once more. Liam Delap goes down to the ground dramatically under the challenge of Timothy Castagne, and Bond doesn't need VAR this time. It's all happening in west London! By Harry Bamforth Calm as you like! Raul Jimenez is the calm Fulham need amid the storm of anger as he strokes the penalty home. The Cottagers have been knocking at the door and now they have their reward. Game on! By Harry Bamforth That didn't take long in the end. Darren Bond needs just a couple of glances before he overturns the decision. Raul Jimenez will step up! By Harry Bamforth OHHHH! Harry Wilson is cleaned out by Ipswich captain Sam Morsy and the whole of Craven Cottage screams for a penalty. But Darren Bond says no. .. I can't believe it and neither can Harry Wilson as he goes absolutely crazy at the referee. I mean, that's a certain penalty and now VAR has told BOnd to go to the screen. This will be overturned, I'm certain. By Harry Bamforth So close to a second. Bernd Leno comes to the rescue to deny Nathan Broadhead with a super stop. It's a wonderful volley from the forward and looks destined for the top corner, but Leno turns it past the post at full stretch. By Harry Bamforth Marco Silva turns to the bench. Andreas Pereira and Rodrigo Muniz are both on as Alex Iwobi and Tom Cairney make way. Can they make an impact? By Harry Bamforth Emile Smith-Rowe, you simply have to score that. .. Fulham finally get in behind Ipswich as Alex Iwobi clips the ball into the vacant area at the back post. Smith-Rowe races into it and just needs to get his header on target, but he skews it wide. I'm not sure how he hasn't scored there. By Harry Bamforth The frustration is starting to show in the Fulham camp. They just can't break through this Ipswich side and are now resorting to ridiculous efforts. Alex Iwobi gets the ball on the edge of the area but can't find any of his team-mates, so decides to have a crack. It's a terrible effort though - he slashes the ball high and wide. By Harry Bamforth Jacob Greaves has been utterly superb today. Once again he is there to foil a Fulham attack as he rises highest to put a cross behind for a corner, which is then wasted. Greaves just doesn't look like being beaten in the air, he gets his head to everything. And despite all the headers, his hair hasn't moved an inch. Quite impressive really. He must use a lot of hairspray. By Harry Bamforth Ooooh. .. Christian Walton comes within centimetres of carrying the ball outside his box but readjusts just in time. The Fulham fans think he had taken it out, but Darren Bond was very close to the action. I thought it was out at first, to be fair. By Harry Bamforth The conditions are worsening in west London. It is absolutely lashing it down, and I mean LASHING it down. The players looked drenched. It will be interesting to see how much it affects things. By Harry Bamforth Ipswich really are going for this now. They seemed to have taken things up a notch this half and Sammie Szmodics is at the center of the action again. The ball is pulled back to him in the area, but with Calvin Bassey closing him down he completely misses the ball. He should do better there. By Harry Bamforth Marco Silva still isn't a happy boy! The Fulham manager continues to protest the decision to not send off Leif Davis with referee Darren Bond. Nevertheless, Silva has made one change with Emile Smith-Rowe coming on for Issa Diop. Very attacking. And now we are back underway. By Harry Bamforth That half was certainly not without its controversy. There is an argument that Ipswich should have been down to 10 men before Sammie Szmodics put them ahead. I mean, I think Fulham have a right to be angry. Leif Davis had not intention of getting the ball while Harry Wilson was breaking through on goal. Yes, Wilson's touch was a little heavy, but how do the officials know for certain he would not have reached the ball. Davius is a lucky boy. By James Sharpe At Craven Cottage By Harry Bamforth Sammie Szmodics just loves scoring away from home. The Ipswich man has scored four Premier League goals this season and all of them have come on the road. It's the most a player has scored in the competition in 2024-25 with 100 per cent coming on the road. It reminds me of a certain Roberto Firmino. .. By Harry Bamforth Before this goal went in I genuinely could only see Fulham scoring in this match. But the commentator's curse came true as always and not long after I wrote that, Ipswich took the lead out of nowhere. It's a lovely move but what was Calvin Bassey thinking after Ben Johnson hit the bar? Just hoof the ball clear. He didn't and Sammie Szmodics was never going to miss when the ball came his way. A big goal for the visitors. By Harry Bamforth Phoar, what a half of footie! That was a thoroughly entertaining 45 minutes and it's Ipswich who lead as it comes to a close. Fulham will be fuming heading into that dressing room as they were dominant, but just couldn't finish their chances. That's football though, eh? By Harry Bamforth Oh, I thought there would be more than that. Despite the drama we have had here there will only be one minute of stoppage time. By Harry Bamforth What a goal that would have been! We know Harry Wilson can hit them and my word he strikes a volley so sweetly just outside the area. It looks destined for the top corner but Jacob Greaves gets his big old head in the way to deny him. Top defending! By James Sharpe At Craven Cottage By Harry Bamforth The Ipswich fans are having the time of their lives. They are singing their own version of Shakira's 'Waka Waka' which has transported me back to the 2010 World Cup. I was only 10 when that song came out and I loved it. I'm bobbing along to it as I type this. A banger. By Harry Bamforth There was a yellow card for Nathan Broadhead during the celebrations there. I can't lie to you guys though, I'm not entirely sure why. I'm sure Broadhead won't exactly care though, his side are leading against the run of play. By Harry Bamforth Ipswich take the lead against the run of play! It's Sammie Szmodics who smashes the ball into the back of the net to silence Craven Cottage. Nathan Broadhead whips a stunning cross into the box which Ben Johnson heads onto the bar. The move looks like it's over but Calvin Bassey fails to clear his lines and Szmodcis fires home via a deflection. The Tractor Boys have been under the cosh but have taken their big chance when it came their way. Do we have a shock on the cards? By Harry Bamforth Antonee Robinson is just so good, isn't he? Fulham's attack was starting to stagnate until suddenly the left-back springs into life. He plays a give-and-go with Alex Iwobi before bursting into the box at some pace. Robinson tries to pull the ball back for Sasa Lukic but it's cut out at the pivotal moment. A lovely move, nevertheless. By Harry Bamforth It only feels like a matter of time until Fulham get this goal. Ipswich have barely touched the ball in the last 15 minutes or so, they can't get near it. While the chances have been few and far between, I just have a feeling that the next one will go in. I'm not too great with predictions though, so don't trust me on that. By James Sharpe At Craven Cottage By Harry Bamforth Ooooooh. .. Leif Davis is a lucky, lucky boy. He hacks down Harry Wilson as he looks set to burst through on goal. The referee reaches for his pocket but it's a yellow card that comes out of it. Davis will be a relieved man, I thought it was red for a second. Maybe it should have been. Marco Silva certainly thinks Davis should be off, he is fuming. By Harry Bamforth I never saw Ipswich as a defensively solid team at the start of the season, but they are showing that side of them at the moment. Fulham are having all of the ball but have only managed to fashion a couple of openings. Other than that it's been a game of sideways passes when the hosts are on the ball. Maybe that's harsh actually, I'm still being entertained. By Harry Bamforth Oh, that's a brilliant stop from Christian Walton! Fulham really should be ahead after Raul Jiminez gets on the end of Tom Cairney's cross. The ball lands straight on his head and you expect him to score as he meets it, but he nods it too close to Walton. The keeper still does well to get down low to deny him. He's a big lad. By Harry Bamforth I can't get over just how big Liam Delap is - he's huge! That's a compliment, by the way, I'm not trying to hurt his feelings. I just haven't covered Ipswich too much this season. He has just picked up the ball in the middle of the pitch and powered to the edge of the area with his usual gusto. Delap gets the ball pipped off him, but it shows the intent he has today. By James Sharpe At Craven Cottage By Harry Bamforth Oh, stop that Nathan Brodhead! The Ipswich forward has just produced a lovely little flick over the head of Sas Lukic. It's what I would describe as filthy. The Ipswich attack comes to nothing, but I loved that touch. By Harry Bamforth After watching Arsenal's dire draw with Brighton yesterday, this game is so refreshing. It's being played at such a high tempo and both sides look likely of doing something. More of this and I will be a very happy man. It is banishing the scars of yesterday evening. By James Sharpe At Craven Cottage By Harry Bamforth My word, that is one hell of a ball from Leif Davis! The Ipswich full-back whips in a delightful cross into the area that is begging for a finish. Sammie Szmodics lunges for it but just can't get anything on the ball to turn it home. That deserved a goal, any touch and it would have been one. By Harry Bamforth Fulham are having all the ball at the moment, while Ipswich just seem content sitting in. The pattern of play thus far indicates that Fulham are going to have to be extremely patient today. I just hope we get some excitement, that's all I ask for. By Harry Bamforth There is not much to report from this one as of yet, other than that I love Ipswich's pink kit. I'm guessing they thought it was going to be snowy and wanted to stand out because my word it is bright. I'm not sure why their blue strip wouldn't suffice though. .. By James Sharpe At Craven Cottage By Harry Bamforth Nothing better than a bit of Insomnia by Faithless as the ball gets rolling. They have really set the mood here today and hopefully, this game matches it. By Harry Bamforth I love watching Fulham at Craven Cottage for one reason and one reason only. .. their music selection. The two teams walk out to some very motivational tunes while flames burst into the air. I just love it. Every time I watch them it makes me want to get out on that pitch and play too, I am pumped up. The players look ready, I am ready, but are you ready? By James Sharpe At Craven Cottage By Harry Bamforth Right, we are nearly there. Kick-off is just over 10 minutes away and I am just itching for this one to get going. However, I hope these players take off their gloves, it's 12 degrees in west London. Basically summer. If not, the game is truly gone! By Harry Bamforth Now this doesn't sound good. .. Ipswich boss Kieran Mc Kenna has just been talking to Sky Sports about why Omari Hutchinson is missing from the squad. And it's not good news, he has confirmed that the midfielder tweaked his groin after the Chelsea win. Groin problems are not nice ones, but it's unknown just how bad Hutchinson's is. Ipswich fans will be hoping it's not too bad and he will be back soon. By Harry Bamforth Marco Silva, Fulham boss, speaking ahead of the game: By Harry Bamforth It's easy to forget that it's January and there is actually a transfer window going on even when games are being played. Yesterday it was revealed that Ipswich are closing in on the signing of Ben Godfrey from Atalanta. The controversial aspect of this transfer is that Godfrey used to play for their rivals, Norwich. Still, it seems the deal is nearly there as the defender is expected to be in attendance at Craven Cottage this afternoon. I bet he is itching to get onto the pitch, though. By Harry Bamforth The perks of having a stadium on a river is that it is aesthetically pleasing and great in the summer. However, the problem with having a stadium on the river is that it is prone to flooding. While Anfield is currently having to deal with the fluffy white stuff, Craven Cottage has a moat of water. I hope fans brought some goggles, they may have to swim to the stadium soon. By Harry Bamforth Chris Sutton, It's All Kicking Off! co-host, on BBC Sport: By Harry Bamforth I think it's time we go back in time to August. Ipswich hosted Fulham in what was their third game of the season, following two defeats to Liverpool and Manchester City. The Tractor Boys went ahead early through none other than Liam Delap and it looked as though they were on their way. But as has happened so many times this season, they could not see the game out. An equaliser from Adama Traore denied Ipswich the win, but they still did pick up their first point of the season. They have only picked up 14 since but will be desperate to add three more to their tally today. Can they get the job done? By Harry Bamforth How good has Alex Iwobi been this season, eh? The Nigerian midfielder has taken things up a notch after a brilliant first campaign at Fulham last year. He has five goals and three assists to his name this campaign and has been a key part of the Cottagers' success. If I were Ipswich, he would be the player I would be looking to stop getting on the ball this afternoon. If they don't, they could be in trouble. By Harry Bamforth The fans are starting to flock to Fulham. I suspect they were hoping for better weather for the first game of 2025, it's pretty grim. London is a lot warmer than Liverpool though, so they should be grateful! By Harry Bamforth Alan Shearer, former Newcastle striker, speaking to Betfair: By Harry Bamforth James is spot on there, Liam Delap has been so entertaining to watch this season. I can't lie, when Ipswich opted to sign him in the summer, I thought it was a slightly underwhelming transfer. He didn't exactly set the Championship alight during loan spells at Stoke City, Preston, and Hull City. So, I was slightly shocked when he arrived in the Premier League. My word, Delap has proved me and various others wrong this campaign. He has been superb. Delap has netted an impressive seven goals for the Tractor Boys in the Premier League so far. The only English players to score more this season are Cole Palmer, James Maddison, and Ollie Watkins. Not bad, eh? By James Sharpe At Craven Cottage By Harry Bamforth Oh, now this is interesting. Ipswich's hero from the win against Chelsea, Omari Hutchinson, is not even in the squad. I'm not sure why as yet, but my assumption is illness. We will have to see. He is one of just two players to have dropped out of the side that stunned the Blues. Wes Burns also misses out, with Ben Johnson and Sammie Szmodics coming into the team. Liam Deap starts up top as always. By Harry Bamforth I won't keep you waiting any longer! As you can see Tom Cairney is back in from the start, and he is actually the only change the Fulham team who drew with Bournemouth at the back end of 2024. It means Harry Wilson is given another crack after his brilliant run of form, which he deserves. A strong side, it has to be said. By Harry Bamforth Right, it's nearly time for the team news! I have just seen the line-ups but am not going to give too much away before I post them. What I will say though is that Fulham's captain Tom Cairney has returned to the starting line-up. That's all you're getting. .. By Harry Bamforth I mean, what didn't happen yesterday? Saturday was another action-packed afternoon of Premier League footie. I thought you might want a little bit of a reminder. Seeing as there were seven matches, instead of doing a line on each game, I will just give you the scores. That's not me being lazy. .. I swear. You would just be reading forever otherwise. I'm being nice! Anyway, here are yesterday's results: By Harry Bamforth Ready for more footie? Yesterday was a pretty hectic afternoon in the Premier League - I'm only just recovering. However, now we turn our attention to London in the first of two matches on what is going to be a super Sunday. Fulham host Ipswich Town in what is a lovely little appetiser ahead of Liverpool's clash with rivals Manchester United later. The two sides have had very differing campaigns, but both can do serious damage on their day. I'm pretty excited about this one, and I hope you are too. With that being said, let's get cracking, shall we? Published by Associated Newspapers Ltd Part of the Daily Mail, The Mail on Sunday & Metro Media Group
