Rayan Ait-Nouri had to be carried off the pitch as a fight broke out after the final whistle at Molineux. Wolves suffered a devastating defeat as they were beaten 2-1 by Ipswich Town on home soil, leading to loud boos from the home fans. Jack Taylor grabbed the winner for Kieran Mc Kenna's side in the last minute of added time, sparking furious scenes on the Wolves bench after the whistle. As a result, Ait-Nouri was escorted from the pitch by Craig Dawson, who did his best to remove his furious teammate from the row by lifting him off the ground. Matheus Cunha was also involved and needed to be ushered down the tunnel to avoid punishment. While the cause of the row is not yet known, it's been suggested that it could have been down to Taylor's winner coming in the fourth minute of injury time - a minute later than the allocated three minutes signaled by the fourth official. In regulation time, Ait-Nouri was involved in a feisty confrontation with Ipswich forward Conor Chaplin, before receiving a booking and a suspension for the next match in a separate incident. He was then given his marching orders with a red card at full-time. Defeat means that Wolves sit 19th in the table and four points from safety - a tally that could increase with Crystal Palace yet to play this weekend. It also piles the pressure on Wolves boss Gary O'Neil as speculation around his future at the club continues. Loud boos echoed around Molineux as unsavory scenes plagued the final whistle for the second match in a row. Discussing the touchline scuffle, Michael Gray told talk SPORT: "Is that the end for Gary O'Neil? I think so. The pressure is just building and building, you can see players arguing with each other in front of us, yet again Wolves are involved in fracas at the end of a game. “You can see Matheus Cunha is going absolutely crazy. There's four or five players dragging him back. “Rayan Ait-Nouri in front of us, there’s three or four players pulling him away. They are absolutely furious. I think they're furious because they think it went past the three minutes of added-time. "Well, I’m sorry, but you've got to play on. You've conceded 20 goals from set pieces this season, you switched off yet again in the 93rd minute. “This is just incredible. This is not the Wolves that I can remember when I was here as a player. I do not like to see this. "Full credit to Ipswich, they went out, they've done the business and got the job done, but I do not like to see what I've just seen at the end of this game. That was shocking. ” Adrian Durham then added: "Aït-Nouri has completely lost his head, totally lost his head, to the point where Craig Dawson, his teammate who wasn't on the pitch today, had to restrain him. “He had to hug him just to stop him from causing more trouble. Gary O'Neil on the pitch in the ref’s face. He's not happy with it at all. “By the way, it’s a minimum added-time. so they've you're right They've got to play on to the whistle. This is clutching at straws from Gary O'Neil, I'm afraid. “I love the fella, I’ve done shows with him and He's a terrific bloke but, I'm sorry, he is clutching right now, and he's clinging on to his job as well. “He's clapping the fans, he's applauding them, but I think that those Wolverhampton Wanderers fans want him out. ” It's not the first time this has happened, with O'Neil loudly booed following their 4-0 defeat to Everton earlier this month. The touchline tussle was also the sign of a worrying trend as well. It came after Mario Lemina was caught in a post-match tussle with West Ham United captain Jarrod Bowen following Wolves' 2-1 defeat to the London side. As a result, he was stripped of the captaincy for the clash with Ipswich, a decision that had little bearing on the result. Wolves face a crunch match next time out as they travel to face Leicester on Sunday, December 22. © 2024 talk SPORT Limited
