Another statement victory for Hearts. A lot of questions have been asked about the mettle and mentality of the team and they have surely been answered tonight. Deep quality under pressure from the entire squad. Calum What a shambles. St Mirren absolutely played off the park against 10 men. John Just think how good Jambos will be when they have 11 players. Patrick Scottish Premiership Hearts are now six points clear at the top of the table. Celtic stay six behind and are now into second, ahead of Old Firm rivals Rangers on goal difference. Falkirk stay five adrift of Hibernian and five ahead of Dundee United in sixth, while St Mirren are stuck four behind Dundee in 10th and are still only four ahead of Kilmarnock. FT: Falkirk 0-1 Celtic Tony Docherty Former Dundee manager on BBC Scotland When it gets to this stage of the season, it is all about picking up three points. John Mc Glynn got his tactics spot on, playing two wide players against Celtic, and they were the better team. But Celtic got across the line and that's the most important thing. FT: Falkirk 0-1 Celtic John Collins Former Celtic midfielder on BBC Sportsound Falkirk take all the credit and John Mc Glynn will be gutted they didn't take anything from it. Celtic lacked control and that's not something you expect from them. FT: Hearts 2-0 St Mirren Allan Preston Former Hearts midfielder on BBC Sportsound Talk about statement results. This is a statement result for Hearts. Down to 10 men since the 15th minute and they deserved to win by more. Another statement victory from the league leaders, who once again battled so hard when down to 10 men and came away with three points. Beni Baningime's 14th-minute red card threatened a slip in their title challenge, but they've come through another challenge thanks to goals from Lawrence Shankland and Tomas Magnusson in the second half. St Mirren threatened at times but only after they went behind. And any question about the Tynecastle atmosphere has been answered resoundingly, too. This place was rocking. Tomas Magnusson scored Hearts' second goal Hearts 2-0 St Mirren Craig Gordon has done it again. This time it's Killian Phillips the Hearts goalkeeper denies from close range, saving with his right hip as the Irishman volleys for goal. Hearts 2-0 St Mirren Allan Preston Former Hearts midfielder on BBC Sportsound St Mirren have deserved nothing. Hearts deserve to be two goals ahead, if not more. Hearts 2-0 St Mirren Cammy Devlin has taken a sore one in a challenge with Killian Phillips. It was just an awkward one as the Irishman fell on his midfield opponent. Still, a sore one for the Aussie. Hearts have one more change to make. Probably Celtic's most undeserved Premiership win for quite some time. But it's a massive one. Benjamin Nygren's 10th league goal of the season just before the break wins it. Falkirk were outstanding but somehow take nothing from the game. Benjamin Nygren's 12th goal of the campaign seals the victory Falkirk 0-1 Celtic Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel collects a Falkirk corner and there is a minute left. Falkirk just keep coming. Falkirk 0-1 Celtic Tony Docherty Former Dundee manager on BBC Scotland Celtic are hanging in here. Falkirk are controlling it and getting into wide areas. Falkirk 0-1 Celtic Five added minutes at Falkirk Stadium. A huge five minutes for Celtic, who have been far from convincing. Having said that, they should have sealed it. A cutback for Reo Hatate should be buried, but the midfielder fluffs his touch. It's eventually laid back to him again, but it isn't a great pass and the chance is gone. Hearts 2-0 St Mirren Allan Preston Former Hearts midfielder on BBC Sportsound I thought St Mirren would have pushed on after Hearts went down to 10 men. But they have switched off since winning the League Cup. Hearts 2-0 St Mirren Lawrence Shankland scored Hearts' opener Hearts 1-0 St Mirren Allan Preston Former Hearts midfielder on BBC Sportsound Incredible performance from Hearts. It supersedes Sunday if they can see it through. Tomas Magnusson Game over? It all comes through the hard work of Pierre Landry Kabore. Up against about seven St Mirren defenders, all by himself, he wins a throw high up the pitch. The long throw is messy but Magnusson is able to mop up and play Harry Milne through on goal. It's a fine save from Shamal George but Magnusson is following in to head in the rebound. Hearts 1-0 St Mirren Shout for hand ball against Tomas Magnusson as Killian Phillips tries a shot with the outside of the boot in the box. Nope, nothing given against the Hearts midfielder. Just a corner. Falkirk 0-1 Celtic That's a BIG save from Kasper Schmeichel. Liam Scales takes a wilde swipe after Auston Trusty gives the ball away cheaply. It falls kindly for Ethan Williams and the Falkirk substitute shoots on target, but the Celtic goalkeeper reacts brilliantly to turn the ball away with his feet. Father Peter looks stoic in the stands but must be bursting with pride. Falkirk 0-1 Celtic Tony Docherty Former Dundee manager on BBC Scotland It will be more of a natural shape for Celtic now, with Johnny Kenny coming on to play up front. Nygren will drop back into a more natural role. Magnusson's goal was only his second for the club after signing in the summer At a glance Hearts win with 10 men again despite early Baningime red Shankland and Magnusson score in second half to earn victory Mc Innes' remain six points clear at the top after 22 matches Hearts v St Mirren highlights 15/01/26 Hearts overcame a first-half red card for the second time in four days to beat St Mirren and remain six points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership. Beni Baningime's 15th-minute dismissal for a horror challenge threatened to hamper Hearts' title challenge, but second-half goals from Lawrence Shankland and Tomas Magnusson secured victory. It is the second consecutive statement win after Derek Mc Innes' embattled side won with 10 man at Dundee on Sunday after goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow was sent off just before half-time. The red card came earlier in this game, and although no one could argue about the decision, it created a siege mentality around Tynecastle, leading to an atmosphere akin to a European night under the lights in Gorgie. Baningime, who has been instrumental for the league leaders, caught Roland Idowu high on the calf with his studs and, after a quick video assistant referee (VAR) check, referee Kevin Clancy upgraded the colour of his card from yellow to red. St Mirren would have the ball in the back of the net twice in the first half, through Idowu and Harry Milne's own goal, but both were chalked off for offside. That didn't dent Hearts' play. Claudio Braga and Alexandros Kyziridis both missed one-on-one opportunities in the first half, and St Mirren keeper Shamal George made a great save to deny Shankland in the second. But he could do nothing to stop the Hearts' captain on the hour mark. Blair Spittal played a fine one-two with Kyziridis before picking out Shankland in the middle, and he in turn picked out the bottom corner with a first-time finish. It got even better for Hearts when, after hard work from substitute Pierre Landry Kabore, Magnusson was able to play Milne through one-on-one. His shot was saved by George but Magnusson was there on the rebound to head home and settle any home nerves. As for St Mirren, that makes it two wins from 15 amid a mini-injury crisis, as they remain in 10th place, four points behind Dundee. Mc Innes has made a lot this week of how desperately his side need their home fans in the next few weeks. Although during a recent win over Livingston the mood at Tynecastle could hardly be called toxic, it wasn't particularly encouraging either. Not many could have predicted just how badly the league leaders would need that 12th man against St Mirren. Baninigme's red was for a rash, thoughtless lunge and was the first of his career. The midfielder is known for his composure under pressure, not that kind of tackle. The mood threatened to turned gloomy but instead, it gave fans a cause. Their side, on top of the league for over 100 days, were the underdogs once more. This was not similar to the 45 minutes against Dundee, where Hearts played with their backs to the wall when they were a man down. No changes were made, and Braga and Kyziridis continued to hunt from the front, albeit spurning opportunities that occasionally popped up. That continued in the first half, until the goal came. After that, they sat back. Jamie Mc Cart came on, as did Frankie Kent. But they soaked up the pressure, they fought for every ball, and they stung on the counter. Once again, they had the mark of title challengers. When under the pump, they came up with all the answers. Beni Baninigme's red card was the first of his career As for St Mirren, it was another disappointing performance. Yes, they are bereft with injuries. The absent Mark O'Hara, Keanu Baccus, Jonah Ayunga are key players. But Killian Phillips and George made it through fitness scares to play, and Alex Gogic's return from suspension should have been more keenly felt. But even with a man extra, they struggled to create. When they did score, they were denied by tight offside calls. Idowu offered threat, but he had precious little help. Stephen Robinson has pleaded to his back-up brigade, urging them to step up. They're not doing it, and their horrendous league run continues. The manager is under no pressure. He has delivered a rare trophy this season that will live long in the memory. But immortality does not exist in modern football and they need to turn this around, or they'll start to flirt with the two teams below them. This video can not be played 'The players made me look stupid tonight' - Robinson Hearts head coach Derek Mc Innes: "We were in trouble but we've got the experience of Sunday and we played similar. "We tried to still carry a threat with three at the top of the pitch, give us a bit of oxygen and belief. Lawrence [Shankland], Claudio [Braga] and Kyzi [Kyziridis] carried the fight for us and gave us good moments without scoring. "We reorganised at half time and St Mirren never made any changes, so the message was clear - 'this can be done'. " St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson: "First half, Hearts go down to 10 men. Thought we played really well, scored two goals that were disallowed. "Then we stopped doing basics. Hearts were the epitome of doing the basics right. "The two goals are woeful decisions. All the coaching in the world, you have to step up and make the right decisions. And that's been the story of our season. " Both are in Scottish Cup fourth-round action against fellow Premiership sides. Hearts host Falkirk on Saturday (20: 00 GMT) while St Mirren visit Livingston earlier in the day (15: 00).
