Jose Mourinho emphatically dismissed the Cristiano Ronaldo transfer links to Fenerbahce. Ronaldo is in the final year of his contract at Al Nassr, where he is paid a reported £173million-a-year at the club. The 39-year-old is free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with another club from January. Reports claimed that Mourinho wanted to bring him to Turkey. One such report said that contact had been made between Mourinho and Ronaldo ahead of a potential move. He is even alleged to have asked: "Are you happy there? There is talk that you want to leave. If you leave, would you like to come to Fenerbahce? " However, Mourinho himself has dismissed the claims. He said: "News about Cristiano Ronaldo to Fenerbahçe are ridiculous. "Cristiano might come to Istanbul to eat because it's right in the middle of the road between Saudi and Portugal. Or maybe he'll come see his old friend Jose, we can eat at my hotel! " Mourinho managed Ronaldo at Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, where they won La Liga together in his second season. Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in December 2022 after his high-profile exit from Manchester United, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal. It has been rumoured that he will sign a new contract with the club, an extension would likely see the 39-year-old pocket a similarly eye-watering sum of money to what he is being paid now. Ronaldo will be 40 in February and recently passed the 900 career goals milestone. One of his targets is to reach 1000, but says he will retire when he no longer enjoys the game. "I just want to enjoy [myself], " Ronaldo said. "Plan for retirement? If it has to happen, in one or two years. .. I don't know. I'm turning 40 soon. "I really want to enjoy, as long as I feel motivated I keep going. The day I don't feel motivated, I will retire. " © 2024 talk SPORT Limited
