Barnsley 2-0 Wrexham and Stockport 0-1 Birmingham among 10 League One games Huddersfield v Wigan postponed due to "severe localised flooding" and Crawley v Charlton also off due to waterlogged pitch League Two leaders Walsall 0-1 Notts County among 12 games in fourth tier Get Involved: #bbcfootball, via Whats App on 03301231826 or text 81111 (UK only, standard message rates apply) Ben Ashton, Matt Cresswell, Lennan Tomlins HT: Stockport 0-1 Birmingham Sanny Rudravajhala BBC Radio 5 Live at Edgeley Park It's
a deserved lead for the leaders and it's what we expected, given the level
Birmingham are at, added to the injuries Stockport have suffered. Alfie
May could have had a double, just as he did in the reverse fixture. It would
have been a perfect bookend to his first 45. That beautiful curling
effort after five minutes, but denied by Stockport keeper Ben Hinchliffe when played through,
heading to half time. For
Stockport, they've grown into it but are looking vulnerable to Birmingham on
the counter. No roof over the away stand meant everyone was getting soaked earlier, even though Alfie May has put smiles on sodden faces. Thankfully,
the weather has improved - credit to the club that the pitch is looking so good
and has coped with the overnight deluge and given there is flooding in the region. That's the only positive for
Stockport, so far. #bbcefl Birmingham are opening up a four-point lead at the top of League One as things stand as they lead 1-0 at Stockport, while Wrexham are 2-0 down at Barnsley and Wycombe are goalless with Exeter. Reading will move up to fifth if they can see out the win at Cambridge, while Leyton Orient and Mansfield are also ahead and will climb higher, should they hold on. HT: Stockport 0-1 Birmingham Richard Wilford BBC Radio WM commentator Stockport have had a lot of possession but the Blues have stopped them from having many chances. Alfie May got back to goal-scoring form, but it is certainly not a comfortable lead. HT: Wycombe 0-0 Exeter Charlie Goff BBC Three Counties Radio Summariser Wycombe just look a second off the pace of the game, they will be disappointed at half-time, the game has just not got going yet. HT: Notts County 1-0 Walsall Mark Stallard Former Notts County striker on BBC Radio Nottingham It has been total domination in this first half from Notts County, good players playing well, but there is still another half to play. You would have to expect a response from Matt Sadler's team in the second half. Stockport 0-1 Birmingham Alfie May's fifth minute strike separates the two sides at the break. Applause from both sets of supporters as the sides go down the tunnel for half-time. Stockport have struggled to break down a well oiled Birmingham defence and after May's left-footed curler opened the scoring early on, he could have doubled the lead himself but County keeper Ben Hinchcliffe kept the 31-year-old at bay. The hosts have huffed and puffed but despite a lot of hard work in the first half, there has in truth been little of goalmouth action. Stockport 0-1 Birmingham We're into two minutes of additional time here but we're likely to go over that as Birmingham goalkeeper Ryan Allsop is down and has to be given a bit of tape from the physio to clear up a head injury- looks fine to continue though. Barnsley 2-0 Wrexham Barnsley take a two-goal lead into the break. Who saw this coming? The Tykes have won just twice in 11 games at Oakwell this season but two excellent goals from Davis Keillor-Dunn and Adam Phillips have them firmly in the driving seat. Wrexham's eight-game unbeaten run is under major threat on a ground where they've failed to win since 2016. Can the Red Dragons rescue anything and keep in touch with league leaders Birmingham? Notts County 1-0 Walsall A deserved lead for Notts County, they go into the break 1-0 up against league leaders Walsall. Stockport 0-1 Birmingham Birmingham close to doubling their advantage! A slip on half-way from the Stockport defence allows Willum Williumsson in. He unselfishly sets up Alfie May who fires the ball towards the goal from a tight angle but County keeper Ben Hinchcliffe is equal to it to make a brilliant save and keep the deficit at one. That would have been a huge goal just before half-time. Wycombe 0-0 Exeter A cagey affair at Adams Park and it's goalless at the interval. Not really a lot to shout about in terms of big chances for either side. Exeter did have the ball in the net through Ilmari Niskanen when he headed in at the back post but it was rightly ruled out for a foul in the box when the cross came in. Work for Wycombe to do to keep touch at the top. The Grecians will be fairly happy with their afternoon's work so far. Barnsley 2-0 Wrexham Wrexham have never secured a league double over Barnsley. They beat the Tykes a month ago but they'll need a huge comeback to pick up all three points here. They haven't really troubled the Barnsley goal since going behind, it must be said. Stockport 0-1 Birmingham Richard Wilford BBC Radio WM commentator It has not been a thing of beauty for Blues so far but they are ahead. The important thing is to pick up points away from home and they are. Wycombe 0-0 Exeter Exeter's Josh Magennis gets shown a yellow for arguing with the referee but doesn't stop there. He carries on his disputes before eventually walking away. Magennis then gets on the end of a free-kick but heads over from about six yards out. A tough chance but a sniff of goal for the visitors. Notts County 1-0 Walsall Mark Stallard Former Notts County striker on BBC Radio Nottingham There are lots of times Walsall have quickly won possession and broke quickly, Notts County will have to be careful of that. Notts County have been good value for their lead, and they should be two up, Jatta could have had a double. #bbcefl Bradford lead 1-0 away against Barrow, courtesy of a goal by Lewis Richards. Carlisle's lead against Crewe didn't last too long as Chris Long has now levelled the score. Stockport 0-1 Birmingham First half change made by Dave Challinor here as Jay Mingi is replaced for the Hatters in what looks to be a tactical switch and Kyle Knoyle is on to replace him. Moments later, Birmingham's Taylor Gardner-Hickman is shown the first yellow card for a foul on Callum Connolly. Notts County 1-0 Walsall Tommy Simkin pulls off a strong save to deny a strike by George Abbott. Notts County continue to apply the pressure in search of a second goal. Bristol Rovers have leveled the scores with Leyton Orient thanks to Chris Martin's 32nd minute penalty. Bolton, who have scored the most goals of any English Football League side on New Years Day, have gone behind at Mansfield Town thanks to Stephen Mc Laughlin's 20th minute opener. Burton Albion have now doubled their advantage over Peterborough thanks to Rumarn Burrell. Wycombe 0-0 Exeter Ilmari Niskanen heads in an effort at the back post for Exeter but it's ruled out after a foul in the penalty area as the cross came in. © 2025 BBC.
