Ruud van Nistelrooy signs off in style with an authoritative win over Leicester at old Trafford. It was capped off by a stunner form Alejandro Garnacho and United head into their new era in high spirits. By Harry Bamforth Amad Diallo wants to follow in Alejandro Garnacho's footsteps with a screamer. It's fair to say, he doesn't quite get the same result as he blasts the ball comfortably high and wide. Not his best effort. By Aadam Patel At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium By Harry Bamforth Ipswich aren't just hanging on here, they are taking the rare opportunity to attack when they can. Jack Clarke decides to have a pop from distance, but Vicario deals with it easily. Can they hold on? By Chris Wheeler At Old Trafford By Craig Hope At The City Ground By Harry Bamforth What finish that is from Alejandro Garnacho! The Argentine missed a curler a couple minutes ago, but this time he plants the ball straight into the top corner. It's a superb strike after counter-attack, and that is all three points wrapped up now. What a way to do it, as well. By Harry Bamforth Game. Set. Match. Newcastle's brilliant second-half comeback is truly complete as Harvey Barnes puts this game to bed. The Geordies break again and Harvey Barnes is away down the left. He then cuts inside and fires the ball in at the near post. A superb breakaway goal. By Matt Barlow At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium By Harry Bamforth This doesn't look good. .. Casemiro goes down and he has to be replaced going into the final 10 minutes. Christian Eriksen gets ready very quickly and in a flash the Dane is on for his Brazilian team-mate. Casemiro had a very good game today, it's a shame it has ended this way. By Harry Bamforth Now that would have been the icing on the cake for Manchester United. Manual Ugarte does brilliantly to win the ball back high up the pitch before feeding Alejandro Garnacho. The Argentine is in space and tries to bend the ball into the far corner but it flies just wide. It would have been some finish, in fairness. By Chris Wheeler At Old Trafford By Harry Bamforth Another game without a goal for Rasmus Hojlund. .. The striker has struggled again today and he is replaced by Joshua Zirkzee. Manchester United have been rather lethargic up top this half, can the Dutchman change that? By Matt Barlow At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium By Aadam Patel At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium By Harry Bamforth This one will count! Tottenham are well and truly back in this now as Rodrigo Bentancur pulls one goal back. The midfielder rises highest to meet a Pedro Porro corner and heads the ball in brilliantly. Game on. By Harry Bamforth Newcastle complete the turnaround! The visitors needed something special and my word has Joelinton delivered in that department. He drives to the edge of the box, cuts inside, and then bends the ball into the far corner. A superb finish. By Harry Bamforth Leicester are really ramping up the pressure here, they are desperate for a goal back. A chance falls to Jordan Ayew but he scuffs his effort and it goes wide of the post. Manchester United are on the back foot. By Matt Barlow At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium By Nathan Salt At Old Trafford By Harry Bamforth Ohhhh, Alexander Isak should have his second. Anthony Gordon drives a counter format Nottingham Forest and sends through Joe Willock on the right. Willock hands the ball up to the back post where Isak has peeled to and finds him. But the striker volleys the ball agonisingly wide. By Harry Bamforth I'm sorry, but this half of football has been utterly pants. Leicester are trying to get a foothold in this game but there isn't much happening in terms of chances. It's not over yet, though. there are still 25 minutes to go. By Harry Bamforth Ohhhh, Ipswich should be home and hosed. Liam Delap does brilliantly on the break and manages to find Omari Hutchinson of the edge of the box. He just needs to pick out a corner but he blasts the ball miles over the bar. He should do better there. By Harry Bamforth Ruud van Nistelrooy has turned to the bench. Jonny Evans is coming on to face his former side as he replaces Diogo Dalot. I guess that means Lisandro Martinez moves to left-back. Marcus Rashford is also hauled off and replaced by Alejandro Garnacho on the left. Meanwhile, there is a bit of a worry regarding Bruno Fernandes, he is struggling with a head injury. .. By Matt Barlow At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium By Harry Bamforth Sadly the excitement elsewhere in the country has not been spread to Manchester. Not much is really happening but I am sure that United fans aren't too bothered about it. Even the scene looks sad as the rain continues to hammer down. By Harry Bamforth It just had to be him! Newcastle have been all over Nottingham Forest and they get their leveller through the ever-reliable Alexander Isak. A cross is kept alive by Sean Longstaff and the ball drops for Isak to sweep home inside the area. The away end goes mental. By Harry Bamforth Now that is just so unlucky. Tottenham's celebrations are cut short as VAR quickly rules out the goal for handball. Back to square one. By Harry Bamforth Here we go. .. Tottenham love a comeback and it's taken just four minutes for them to start this one through Dominic Solanke. Or has he? VAR is going to check this, it looks like he may have handballed it before finishing. By Harry Bamforth Leicester are the ones looking the more likely so far I the second half. I mean, they don't really look threatening but Manchester United seem happy to let them have the ball. It has a similar quiet vibe to the start of the first half. By Harry Bamforth Newcastle have flown out the traps in this half with real intent. Alexander Isak tries to find Sean Longstaff at the back post but the midfielder can't finish off a lovely cross. Bruno Guimaraes then plays a lovely give-and-go before bending an effort just wide. He calls for some noise from the away section. By Harry Bamforth Right then, we are back underway in north London. Tottenham can't get much worse than they were before the break, so expect some sort of improvement. I assume it will be a nervy 45 minutes for the Ipswich players out there. By Harry Bamforth Old Trafford is ready to rumble again. Manchester United come out early and Leicester really make them wait. .. Maybe the visitors just got a real long telling off from their boss Steve Cooper. Can United pick up where they left off? By Harry Bamforth Phoar, that break went quickly. The two teams are back out and there have been no changes from either side. Can Nottingham Forest hold out, or will Newcastle come back? By Chris Wheeler At Old Trafford By Harry Bamforth Bruno Fernandes looks like he is truly back to his best. The Manchester United skipper was superb in that first half and deserved his goal. It was one hell of a hit too. He also bagged an assist, although it was a bit of a dodgy one - he didn't mean it. they all count, though. Fernandes looks to have got his mojo back. By Matt Barlow At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium By Aadam Patel At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium By Harry Bamforth Oh dear, ,, There are boos from the stands as Tottenham head down the tunnel at half-time. They trail to winless Ipswich who have been absolutely superb on the counter attack. Is a shock brewing? By Harry Bamforth Ohhh, it's nearly three just before the break. Amad Diallo breaks away and looks set to finish off the move, but Hermansen denies him brilliantly in net. Then the whistle is blown. Ruud van Nistelrooy's final match as interim boss is going very well so far. By Harry Bamforth So far, so good for Nottingham Forest. Nuno Espirito Santo's flying Forest lead Newcastle thanks to a brilliant header from Murillo. Both sides have had their chances and it's a surprise that there has only been one goal in this game. It's far from over. By Harry Bamforth If you were watching this game without seeing the scoreline, you wouldn't guess Manchester United were winning comfortably. Old Trafford sounds frustrated, they don't exactly sound like they are having a good time. It's been a rather good half for their side, though. By Craig Hope At The City Ground By Harry Bamforth Ipswich are in dreamland! The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is stunned as Liam Delap finishes off a brilliant breakaway. The striker smashes the ball in from two yards away after Tottenham fail to clear. Simply incredible. By Harry Bamforth Old Trafford celebrates once again. Bruno Fernandes wheels away claiming his brace but it's actually an own goal from Victor Kristiansen. The ball is swung in by Noussair Mazraoui and Fernandes gets a touch to it, but it then takes a monster knee off of the Leicester defender. Fernandes' effort wasn't going in, so he should be thankful for the intervention. By Harry Bamforth You can feel the nervous energy in Old Trafford. they groan as Bruno Fernandes slips and Leicester look to pounce, but thankfully for them, Manuel Ugarte sweeps up. The summer signing has been really good today, I must say. By Matt Barlow At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium By Aadam Patel At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium By Harry Bamforth WHAT A GOAL FROM SAMMIE SZMODICS! I can't believe what I have just seen - Szmodics executes a brilliant bicycle kick to fire Ipswich in front. The ball drops to him and he just decides to go the acrobatic route, and he plants the ball into the bottom corner. You won't see many better goals than that this season. By Harry Bamforth I'd argue that Leicester have been the better side since Bruno Fernandes gave Manchester United the lead. The visitors are cutting through United pretty easily when they want to, exploiting them on the counter. By Nathan Salt At Old Trafford By Harry Bamforth Ooooh, that's a really good chance for Leicester! Manchester United switch off at the back and Wilfried Ndid finds himself through in the area. he shows why he is not a striker, though, as he can only fire the ball straight at Andre Onana. They should be level. By Matt Barlow At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium By Harry Bamforth Tottenham are starting to take control of proceedings now with Dominic Solanke starting to get into the game. Omari Hutchinson goes down injured but thankfully for the visitors, it looks like he is OK. By Harry Bamforth The City Ground erupts! For all of Newcastle's chances, it's the hosts that take the lead through a well-worked set-piece. Anthony Elanga clips a free-kick into the area nd Murillo charges in to head it across Nick Pope. Nuno Espirito Santo's side hit the front again. By Harry Bamforth That was exactly what this game needed. The first 15 minutes had been rather drab and it was just screaming for a bit of quality. Bruno Fernandes obviously heard those screams and decided to step up to the plate. By Harry Bamforth Bruno Fernandes is at it again against Leicester! He lights up Old Trafford on his 250th appearance with one hell of a finish outside the box. The ball comes his way and he sets his sight on the far corner, and my word does he find it with a dipping finish. That will settle Manchester United's nerves. By Harry Bamforth Newcastle are starting to cause Nottingham Forest some real problems. Joe Willock is at the epicentre of most of them and he floats a cross into the box which is deflected over to Anthony Gordon at the back post. It falls brilliantly for the winger and you just expect him to get an effort on target, but he shanks it over the ar. He should do better. By Harry Bamforth The final ball just hasn't been there for Manchester United as of yet. They are getting up the pitch very well but chances just aren't being created. A crappy one so far. I hope it doesn't last. By Harry Bamforth Callum Hudson-Odoi is a very lucky boy there. .. The winger misplaced a header horribly on the edge of his own box and it falls straight for Joe Willock. The Newcastle man shifts the ball left and then aims for the top corner, but his finish is poor. By Harry Bamforth Not many chances to report from Old Trafford, thus far. Manchester United started with some intent but that seems to have faded already. Let's hope it livens up, eh? By Craig Hope At The City Ground By Harry Bamforth Ipswich have started well here. They are having a positive spell with the ball and trying to fashion some openings. Tottenham are not at their best yet. By Nathan Salt At Old Trafford By Harry Bamforth Amad Diallo has had a brilliant start here at Old Trafford. He displays his dancing feet on the right-hand side before being hacked down by Abdul Fatawu. It seems he is continuing his form from midweek. By Harry Bamforth Leicester are already a mess at the back. .. Rasmus Hojlund manages to win the ball by his own box as he pressurises the Fozes defence. Marcus Rashford then picks up the ball but he can't find a team-mate around him. A decent start for the hosts. By Harry Bamforth Right, now proceedings are underway at Old Trafford. Are we going to get the thriller we saw just two weeks ago, or will it be a tense affair? We will find out over the next 90 minutes. By Harry Bamforth The City Ground is absolutely bouncing. The atmosphere here is buzzing and I can just feel that this game is going to be a belter. The ball is now rolling. .. By Harry Bamforth Old Trafford shows its' respect to those who we lost during the First World War with a minute's silence. The Last Post is then played beautifully and it feels like the stadium stands still. There is then a big cheer from the crowd as it comes to an end and we are nearly ready to go. By Harry Bamforth The Last Post has been played and a minute's silence observed, and now we are ready for action. There is a big roar as the teams take to their positions and then the game gets underway. Which way will this one go? By Matt Barlow At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium By Chris Wheeler At Old Trafford By Harry Bamforth Leicester's record at Old Trafford is pretty pants, it has to be said. The Foxes have only managed one win away at United out of their last 14 tries. That win was back in May 2021 and there was not a single Leicester fan in attendance to see it due to Covid. Will they be able to replicate that special night today? By Nathan Salt At Old Trafford By Harry Bamforth Anticipation is really building inside Old Trafford. The two teams are just finishing their warm ups in what are foggy conditions and then it will be time for the team talks. I wonder what Ruud van Nistelrooy will say - will it be some dramatic final speech? Probably not. .. By Craig Hope At The City Ground By Harry Bamforth Wow, time really flies, doesn't it? When Bruno Fernandes leads Manchester United out today, he will step onto the pitch in a red shirt for the 250th time. I can't believe he has already been there that long - I guess he did join nearly five years ago. The club have handed him a special framed shirt ahead of kick-off, a nice touch. By Harry Bamforth It feels like just a couple of weeks ago that Manchester United beat Leicester in the FA Cup. Oh wait, it was. .. In the first game after Erik ten Hag's sacking, United finally found their shooting boots. The the Carabao Cup round of 16, they shipped five past Leicester with both Casemiro and `bruno fernandes bagging braces. Leicester's defence was extremely poor that day, but they did cause United some problems going forward, netting twice themselves. Let's hope we are in for another cracker today. By Harry Bamforth The atmosphere is starting to build over in Manchester. The fans are making their way to the stadium and some are even sporting the old kits of their interim boss. I can just sense that it is going to be an emotional day with Ruud van Nistelrooy potentially on his way out. Will it be goodbye? By Harry Bamforth These are the faces of players taking today's match very seriously. Mail Sport's Craig Hope managed to capture the Newcastle side arriving at the City Ground earlier, there was not a smile in sight. I'm expecting a serious performance with that look of focus now. I mean, you'd expect that as a minimum anyway. Still, my point stands. .. By Harry Bamforth If results go their way today, Tottenham could end the day in fifth. If they manage to be winless Ipswich, while their rivals Chelsea and Arsenal play out a draw, then they will leapfrog the pair of them. there are a lot of 'ifs' in this scenario, though. Tottenham are such an inconsistent side. One week they win and get their supporters' hopes up, the next they will lose. Three points are a necessity today if they are serious about challenging for the Champions League places. You'd expect them to get the job done, wouldn't you? I guess we will have to wait and see. By Harry Bamforth After his performance in midweek, Amad Diallo deservedly gets another start today. He was in dire need of a strong display, and my word did he deliver against PAOK. The winger was Manchester United's shining light in what was a tough watch at times. Ruud van Nistelrooy has put his trust in him once more with Alejandro dropping to the bench. He netted twice in the week and will be hungry to score some more goals today. Against a leaky Leicester defence, I can see it happening. By Harry Bamforth I bet Marcus Rashford is buzzing to be back in the line-up seeing as they are playing Leicester. The winger has a brilliant record against the Foxes, he always seems to have a say against them. In fact, he has netted eight times against them in all competitions during his career. That's more goals than he has managed against any other team. By Harry Bamforth Alan Shearer, former Newcastle forward, speaking to Betfair: By Harry Bamforth I can't wait to see Nottingham Forest in action again. Nuno Espirito Santo has the East Midlands side absolutely flying this season as they sit third in the Premier League. If they beat Newcastle at the City Ground today they can go within a point of Manchester City. Their progression truly is astounding, nobody could have predicted this at the start of the season. Can they continue their fine form today? By Nathan Salt At Old Trafford By Harry Bamforth There are no changes in the Newcastle team either. I mean, this is the side that managed to beat Arsenal last week thanks to an Alexander Isak header. He will be eager for goals once again. By Harry Bamforth Why change a winning formula, eh? Nuno Espirito has kept with the same starting line-up that battered West Ham at the City Ground last week. It means Chris Wood is up top as usual - will he bag against his old club? The Leicester skipper is absent and Jordan Ayew replaces him up top after his late equaliser at Ipswich last week. there are two further changes as Boubakary Soumare and James Justin both return to start. By Harry Bamforth Here is Ruud van Nistelrooy's last Manchester United starting line-up. Amad Diallo returns to the starting line-up after his impressive display against PAOK in the Europa League. Overall, there are three changes from that match in midweek with Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez coming back in. Can this team get the job done? By Harry Bamforth Ruud van Nistelrooy, Manchester United boss, speaking on Friday: By Harry Bamforth Is this the last time we see Ruud van Nistelrooy in the Manchester United dugout? While we know Ruben Amorim will be taking the rains after this match, it is yet to be seen if the Dutchman will stay in the backroom staff. Either way, Van Nistelrooy will want to finish his spell as interim boss on a high. He is yet to lose while in charge with his first win actually coming against Leicester in the Carabao Cup. United really flexed their muscles that day and he will need them to do the same if they are to start motoring in the Premier League. The Red Devils sit 13th but can go level with Bournemouth in 11th with a victory. You feel like this is a must-win match for United. By Harry Bamforth Before we really tuck into the build-up for today's matches, I think it's best we throw it back to yesterday. I think I have only just caught my breath back from what was a relentless day of action. It felt like a significant afternoon in the Premier League title race as Liverpool went five points clear at the top. Arne Slot's Reds put Aston Villa to the sword as goals from Darwin Nunez and Mo Salah made it 15 wins from 17 matches in all competitions. Meanwhile, the champions Manchester City did not have such a good evening as they suffered their fourth successive defeat. Pep Guardiola's side relinquished an early lead yet again as Brighton came from behind to mount more misery on City. At the other end of the table, Wolves finally got their first win of the season, beating Southampton, while Julen Lopetegui's concerns only grew as West Ham were held to a goalless draw by Everton. Brentford once again provided the entertainment by edging a five-goal thriller against Bournemouth.
