UEFA Champions League All competitions All competitions All competitions This is the third different campaign in which Newcastle and PSV have met. The Dutch side won both meetings in the 1997-98 UEFA Champions League group stage, while Newcastle progressed 3-2 on aggregate in the 2003-04 UEFA Cup quarter-final (1-1 away, 2-1 home). PSV have won two of their last four UEFA Champions League games against English sides (D1 L1), as many as in their previous 19 (D7 L10). Both of these victories have been against Liverpool (3-2 at home in January 2025, 4-1 away earlier this season). PSV’s 4-1 win at Liverpool in November ended a seven game winless run away against English sides in all competitions. Only once have they won consecutive visits to England, beating Leeds 5-3 in October 1995 and Newcastle 2-0 in November 1997. Newcastle have won their last two UEFA Champions League home games, keeping a clean sheet in both. They’d only kept two clean sheets in their first 13 at St James’ Park in the competition. PSV are unbeaten away from home in the UEFA Champions League this season (W1 D2), beating Liverpool 4-1 last time out. They’ve not won consecutive away games in the competition since the 2006-07 group stage against Bordeaux and Galatasaray. Only three teams – Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Manchester City – led for longer than Newcastle (287: 40) across the opening six matchdays of this UEFA Champions League this season. Two of the three longest passing sequences leading to goals in the UEFA Champions League this season have been scored by PSV, including the outright longest in Dennis Man’s goal v Napoli (46 passes); the other being a 27-pass move finished by Ismael Saibari v Bayer Leverkusen. Anthony Gordon has been in involved in seven goals in six UEFA Champions League games for Newcastle this season (5 goals, 2 assists). Only Alan Shearer has scored more in a single campaign for the Magpies (6 in 2002-03). PSV’s Joey Veerman and Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães have made more defensive line breaking passes than any other player in the UEFA Champions League this season (13 each). PSV’s Couhaib Driouech is averaging a goal or assist every 31 minutes in the UEFA Champions League this season (3 goals, 2 assists in 156 minutes), while teammate Ricardo Pepi is averaging one every 37 minutes (3 goals, 1 assist in 149 minutes). It’s the best two ratios for any player to play at least 90 minutes in the competition this season. Copyright © 2026 BBC. The BBC is not responsible for the content of external sites.
