Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins is a goal away from securing a unique spot in the history books at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. The striker, 28, has scored in his last two Premier League away games against Chelsea, with both ending up being the winning goal in the match. But no visiting player has ever scored three match-winning goals at Stamford Bridge in the competition. Should Watkins score a match-winner at Chelsea on Sunday, Watkins will become the first player to do so in Premier League history at the ground. The clash between the sides will kick off at 1. 30pm on Sunday, with both sides looking to retain or move into the top four with a win. Last campaign, Aston Villa won at Stamford Bridge in September last year with Ollie Watkins' only goal sealing all three points for Unai Emery's side. Malo Gusto had been dismissed in the 58th minute, allowing Villa to capitalise on ten-player Chelsea. Prior to that, in April 2023, Ollie Watkins scored first - in what Opta calls the match-winning goal - before John Mc Ginn added a second in a 2-0 victory in west London. However, in their last clash, at Villa Park in April this year, Chelsea came back from a 2-0 deficit at half-time to earn a draw through goals from Noni Madueke and Conor Gallagher - who has since moved to Atletico Madrid. Watkins has netted six times for Aston Villa this season, including twice against Everton, and has assisted two more. Last season, Watkins ended with 19 goals and 13 assists, a feat he will bid to better this campaign. He recently scored on international duty too, netting the opening goal in a 3-0 victory over Greece in the Nations League at the Athens Olympic Stadium. Aston Villa can also win three away matches in a row in the top-flight against Chelsea for the first time since 1933. And a clean sheet for Emery's side will also make them the first side to keep three in a row in the league since Everton in 1984. After their much-anticipated clash, Chelsea travel to a struggling Southampton midweek before a visit to Tottenham the following weekend. Meanwhile, Aston Villa host Brentford during the week ahead of Southampton's trip to the Midlands at the weekend. © 2024 talk SPORT Limited
