Josh Key's goal means Swansea have won six of their past 10 league games Portsmouth's Championship survival prospects suffered a blow as Swansea City climbed into the top half of the table thanks to a 2-1 victory at Fratton Park. Ethan Galbraith's precise finish put Swansea in front and the visitors' first-half control was rewarded with a second goal when Josh Key's deflected drive dipped inside the far post. Portsmouth had hit the woodwork through Jacob Brown early on, but laboured in attack until the on-loan Luton forward headed his side back into the game after the break. With that John Mousinho's team found some momentum for the first time, but Swansea held on to condemn Pompey to a fifth loss in their past eight league games. The latest setback leaves Portsmouth four points clear of the relegation zone in 19th having suffered three successive home league defeats for the first time since 2018. The mood is much brighter for Swansea, who are within five points of the play-off places - and in the top half for the first time since October - having claimed a rare success on the road. Matos focuses on Wrexham amid Swansea play-off talk Jacob Brown (left) scored his first goal since joining Portsmouth on loan from Luton in February Swansea's home form this season – particularly since Vitor Matos took charge in November – has been admirable, but only two sides in the division have banked fewer points on the road than the Welsh club. They looked hungry to improve that ugly record from the outset at Portsmouth, with leading scorer Zan Vipotnik twice missing the target when he might have done better early on. The Swans' one first-half scare came when Brown met Swanson's corner with a first-time effort which Lawrence Vigouroux saw late, the Swansea goalkeeper pawing the ball on to the post and then gleefully gathering the rebound. Vigouroux was involved when the deadlock was broken, as his superb pass started the move which ended with Galbraith guiding the ball into the far corner from 15 yards after Josh Tymon's initial effort was blocked. There was an element of fortune about the second goal, with right-back Key's 20-yard drive sailing over Portsmouth keeper Nicolas Schmid thanks in part to a slight deflection off Millenic Alli. Swansea then came close to putting the contest to bed, first when Goncalo Franco's audacious 60-yard lob was gathered by a scrambling Schmid and then when Galbraith dragged wastefully wide. Brown's first goal for Portsmouth gave Mousinho's men hope, yet Swansea held on with relative comfort to register only a fifth away triumph of the season. With a trip to Wrexham – the club currently in sixth place - to come on Friday, the south Wales side may yet have a say in the closing stages of the play-off race. Portsmouth head coach John Mousinho: "Really, really poor in the first half, much improved in the second half and nearly got ourselves back into it, but we gave ourselves too much to do, so very disappointing. "When there's such a contrast in halves, you think where was that intent in the first half, where was that aggression, that front-footedness that we just didn't have? "We were a couple of yards off everything [in the first half]. Then in possession we didn't play. Very frustrating overall. " This video can not be played John Mousinho: "We gave ourselves too much to do" Swansea head coach Vitor Matos: "It is not an easy place to come. Portsmouth have a lot of weapons, especially in terms of set-pieces, long balls, crosses ad we knew that. "Being able to put pressure on and control the space in behind is not easy so towards the end the fatigue comes a little bit. "I think the bench was really important for that – they came on and helped the team keep concentration. "Sometimes you need to win with more than controlling the ball, with controlling the space, and I think we did that today.
