By ROBERT SUMMERSCALES, SPORTS REPORTER and JOE BERNSTEIN, SPORTS REPORTER and ALEX JENNINGS AT THE VITALITY STADIUM and JAMES SHARPE Updated: 02: 45 AEST, 24 August 2025 11 View comments Follow Daily Mail Sport's live blog for the latest score, team news and updates as Bournemouth vs Wolves, Burnley vs Sunderland and Brentford vs Aston Villa are all in action in the Premier League. Thanks for following our live coverage of this afternoon's 3pm Premier League action. Burnley claimed their first win back in the top flight, Bournemouth edged past Wolves, and Brentford saw off Aston Villa in west London. This live blog is now closed — but the football keeps coming. You can follow all the updates from the 5. 30pm kick-off between Arsenal and Leeds via the link below. Matt Doherty pulled no punches after Wolves’ defeat, telling Premier League Productions that his side only had themselves to blame. 'We're disappointed, we've lost the first games of the season which is not ideal, ' he said. 'Our game plan was not to play through the middle and we did that and got punished. We made mistakes that we knew we shouldn't have made and they are a good side and punished us off the first chance they got. ' The full-back felt Wolves improved once reduced to 10 men but said the damage had already been done. 'After the red card it was actually better — back against the wall — but disappointed with how the game went before that. Bournemouth probably tried to force it with 11 men. We defended well and they didn't create too many chances. We need to take that kind of defensive and tactical energy into the Everton game. ' After ten minutes of overtime, Burnley fans are at last able to celebrate as the final whistle is blown. Scott Parker's team deserved their 2-0 win. It wasn't thrills and spills but hints that good organisation will make them competitive this season. Skipper Josh Cullen was outstanding. Burnley have their first win back in the Premier League and it comes at the expense of fellow newcomers Sunderland. Josh Cullen broke the deadlock with a fine strike before Jaidon Anthony sealed the points late on with a cool finish on the counter. Scott Parker’s side bounce back from defeat at Spurs in style, while Sunderland are brought down to earth after their opening-day triumph over West Ham. A big result for the Clarets at Turf Moor. Brentford get the win they deserve, Villa get the defeat they thoroughly deserve. The visitors had more than 75 per cent possession and did so little with it. Of Villa's 771 touches, Watkins had 26 of them. The Championship record for the biggest margin of victory remains intact. QPR pulled a goal back in stoppage time to end dreams/nightmares of a historic scoreline. But the celebrations were understandably muted. What a result for Coventry. By Alex Jennings At The Vitality Stadium Wolves keeper Jose Sa goes up for a last-minute corner and. .. it's all over at the Vitality. Not as emphatic as you might have expected given Wolves played much of the game with 10 men, but Bournemouth were still good value for their win. Tyrone Mings standing still just inside the Brentford half with his foot on the ball just sums up Aston Villa's performance and season so far. Five minutes of added time to be played. That should seal it for the Clarets! Josh Cullen starts a lightning counter with a brilliant through ball, sending Jaidon Anthony racing clear of the Sunderland defence. The winger rounds the keeper and slots his finish high into the net. Turf Moor erupts — and Burnley are on the brink of their first Premier League win of the season. Sunderland are throwing everything forward but Burnley are standing firm. The visitors have handed a debut to Marc Guiu, who almost made an instant impact before dragging his shot wide. Moments later, Burnley lost defender Maxime Esteve to injury, with Joe Worrall coming on, while Hannibal was also replaced by Wilson Tchaouna. Plenty of energy injected for the final minutes, but it remains 1-0 to the Clarets. Double change for Villa as Unai Emery shuffles his pack with two more substitutions. The sub is subbed as Emiliano Buendia's afternoon ends early. He is replaced by summer arrival Evann Guessand, while Lamare Bogarde also comes on to take the place of skipper John Mc Ginn. Villa still trail 1-0 at the Gtech and are searching for a spark. Villa have been much improved in this half and managed to put Brentford under much more pressure but, still, nothing really to show for it. Watkins gets a rare chance to run into space but sees his shot blocked. This has been pretty solid from Brentford, much better than against Forest last week. Stunning stop from Jose Sa! That looked destined for the top corner as Tyler Adams met a cut-back from Evanilson and let fly from the edge of the box. The Wolves keeper flung himself across and somehow got his fingertips to it, diverting the ball wide. A brilliant save — and Sa even allowed himself a little grin afterwards. Cheers from the Burnley fans as Sunderland sub Wilson Isidor comes on - he missed two penalties for his side at Turf Moor last season. Isidor's arrival is part of a triple change from Black Cats boss Regis Le Bris. As good as they were against West Ham a week ago, this has been anaemic Coventry are running riot at the CBS Arena and QPR look powerless to stop it. Victor Torp smashes in his second of the afternoon, curling a superb strike from distance into the top corner after a short corner routine. That makes it 7-0 and suddenly the Championship's record margin of victory (8-0) is just one goal away. The Hoops are on the brink of unwanted history. Brentford keeper Caoimhin Kelleher is the first man into the referee's notebook this afternoon. He took an age over a goal kick and Tony Harrington was having none of it. No subtlety to that delay — yellow card shown. We have lift-off. Turf Moor erupted with joy - or was it surprise - as skipper Josh Cullen breaks forward and curls a delightful low finish beyond Robin Roefs. It'll be fascinating to see how Sunderland respond. It was the home side's first shot on target. By Alex Jennings At The Vitality Stadium Wolves are down to ten men! And it's their captain too - Toti shoving Evanilson to the floor when the striker was through on goal. He could have no complaints about seeing red. The only consolation for Vitor Pereira will be that the foul was just outside the box. Toti was already on a yellow card, but was given a straight red for his shove. It should be a one-game suspension regardless, mind you. By Alex Jennings At The Vitality Stadium Do you think the Championship's record margin of victory was a topic of discussion inside the dressing rooms at half-time? Well, Coventry are now just two goals away from equaling the record after making it 6-0 early in the second half. Goal No 6 came courtesy of Victor Torp. By Alex Jennings At The Vitality Stadium So nearly an immediate equaliser for Wolves after half-time. Hugo Bueno is on as a substitute and he plays a threatening ball into Jhon Arias, but he flashes wide. A promising start for the visitors. The 3pm Premier League action is back underway. So is Coventry vs QPR in the Championship. Supermodel Claudia Schiffer is at the Gtech this afternoon to watch Brentford take on Aston Villa. Wearing a Bees shirt, she looked relaxed as she took in the first-half drama. It is not the first time she has been seen at the ground — she was also pictured here last December for Brentford's clash with Nottingham Forest. Plenty of numbers to chew over at the break, and they show very different stories from our three matches. At the Vitality, Bournemouth lead Wolves 1-0 and have been on top — 59% of the ball, 16 touches in the opposition box to Wolves’ 9, and six shots to three. Both sides have managed just one effort on target, but Marcus Tavernier’s early goal is the difference. Brentford are also 1-0 up, despite barely seeing the ball against Aston Villa. Emery’s side have dominated possession (79. 5%) and even racked up more touches in the box (19 to 15), but their x G is just 0. 32 compared to Brentford’s 1. 12. The Bees have made their chances count with two efforts on target and Ouattara’s debut strike. At Turf Moor, it is Burnley 0-0 Sunderland, and the stats back up what has been a scrappy contest. The visitors edge possession (51% to 49%) and lead x G 0. 50 to 0. 20, but there has been just one shot on target in total. Neither side has found the composure to make the breakthrough. 'Can we get a referee, ' chant the Brentford fans. They also accuse him of being, if my ears aren't playing tricks on me, a banker. Something like that, anyway. Expect a few boos at half-time for him too. Oh, and there they are as Tony Harrington and his team head down the tunnel. Brentford good, Villa all over the shop. Plenty going on in the first 45 minutes up and down the country. At the Vitality, Bournemouth lead Wolves 1-0 thanks to Marcus Tavernier’s early strike, which deflected in after Jean-Ricner Bellegarde lost the ball in a dangerous area. Antoine Semenyo rattled the bar soon after, and Vitor Pereira’s side look vulnerable in midfield. At Turf Moor, Burnley and Sunderland are goalless but it has not been short on incident. Lyle Foster had a goal ruled out for a foul in the build-up, while Sunderland saw penalty appeals waved away when Mayenda went down under pressure. It is combative and edgy, though short on real quality. And in west London, Brentford are 1-0 up on Aston Villa after new boy Ouattara marked his debut with a goal. Mikkel Damsgaard thought he had doubled the lead before half-time, only for his thunderous strike to be ruled out for a foul on Emiliano Martinez. Villa, meanwhile, have struggled to get going and lost Boubacar Kamara to injury. Plenty more twists to come in the second half. Burnley 0-0 Sunderland Brentford 1-0 Aston Villa Bournemouth 1-0 Wolves Away from the Premier League (seemingly a long way away for QPR), history could be made in the Championship this afternoon. The biggest margin of victory/defeat in Championship history is currently 8-0 (Birmingham 0-8 Bournemouth in 2014, and Wigan 8-0 Hull in 2020). That could come under threat if QPR don't get their act together in the second half. The Hoops are 5-0 down at Coventry at the interval. Pffffffffft. Villa are very, very lucky there. Damsgaard thinks he's doubled Brentford's lead firing in from the edge of the area but the referee blows for a foul on Martinez by Collins. VAR checks it and confirms the decision but, deary me, he hardly touched him. There's that (very) high bar for intervention in action. Brentford goal disallowed! The Gtech erupts as Mikkel Damsgaard rifles a half-volley in off the bar, but Tony Harrington's whistle had already gone. Nathan Collins was judged to have backed into Emiliano Martinez, causing the Villa keeper to spill under pressure. VAR double-checks the incident but sticks with the referee's call — still 0-0 in west London. Burnley had 12 goalless draws in the Championship last season so it's already crossing everyone's mind this could be another stalemate. There are no complaints about the effort on show or how evenly-matched the teams look. But whether anyone can show the composure to stick a chance away is open to debate. It's dogged rather than delightful at the minute By Alex Jennings At The Vitality Stadium An earlier-than-anticipated Wolves debut for Jackson Tchatchoua, who's on for the injured Ki-Jana Hoever. Tchatchoua, who joined this week from Hellas Verona, was meant to be the fastest player in Serie A last season, so the right wing-back will be worth keeping an eye on, if he slows down for a moment. Villa look ragged in the face of Brentford's game plan to press them hard and hit them with pace in wide areas when they win it back. Thiago holding the ball up well up front. Villa struggling to create much, with no real pace to get in behind. Tielemans finds Rogers with a lobbed pass from deep to help win a corner but that's it really. Plenty for Vitor Pereira to think about already. Wolves are struggling to get a foothold, with Jean-Ricner Bellegarde deployed as the deepest midfielder ahead of the back three. Bournemouth are finding space too easily in that area and the hosts are swarming forward at every opportunity. Least surprising moment of the match is referee Michael Salisbury having a stern word with Hannibal Mejdri. The Burnley player is certainly putting himself about; he's tussled with Simon Adingra and twice left Noah Sadiki on the floor. Scott Parker will love his commitment but he has to be careful not to cross the line Burnley thought they had their first Premier League goal back at Turf Moor when Lyle Foster tucked a neat finish into the far corner after outmuscling Jenson Seelt. The home crowd erupted, but celebrations were cut short as the officials ruled Foster had fouled Seelt in the build-up, and the goal was chalked off. Still goalless between Burnley and Sunderland — but plenty of needle already. By Alex Jennings At The Vitality Stadium Action at both ends now — Djordje Petrovic denies Jorgen Strand Larsen brilliantly after the striker gets a free run at a header in the box. Strand Larsen arguably shouldn't have given the Serbian a chance. Boubacar Kamara has just limped off for Villa. He appeared to jar his knee during a collision with Yehor Yarmoliuk. Kamara is replaced by Emiliano Buendia. We said we were excited to see him! Ideal debut for Ouatarra. Awful defending from Villa's centre-backs Mings and Torres, who just stand and look at each other instead of heading clear a high ball. The Brentford debutant pounces on it and races clear, forces a save from Martinez before tucking away the rebound. What a debut for Ouattara. It has taken him exactly 12 minutes to score his first goal for Brentford. Villa failed to deal with a long ball from the Bees keeper. It was flicked on by Thiago to Ouattara, who got the better of Pau Torres. Ouattara was initially denied by Martinez but he gobbled up the rebound. Ballard hasn't recovered. Enforced early substitution with Jenson Seelt replacing him. That's a blow for the Black Cats. Ballard was a promotion hero last season and scored against West Ham a week ago when Sunderland made their perfect Premier League start. By Alex Jennings At The Vitality Stadium How has Semenyo not scored there? ! The winger runs on to a peach of a ball from David Brooks about two yards out from goal but somehow hits the bar. Bournemouth look like they've got a few goals in them today Both promoted teams would have identified this fixture as a chance for Premier League points. Maybe that explains the feisty opening - two Sunderland players have already required lengthy treatment; Noah Sadiki and Dan Ballard. Burnley's Hannibal Mejdri in particular is throwing himself around Damsgaard missed last week's defeat to Nottingham Forest due to the birth of his child but has shown early on just what Brentford missed. He gets the ball on the edge of the area, jinks past Kamara and Cash with some serious quick feet before curling his shot beyond the far post. Lovely stuff. By Alex Jennings At The Vitality Stadium Marcus Tavernier puts Bournemouth in front after just a few minutes! It's a poor mistake by Wolves midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde who gets caught in possession in a dangerous area, then Tavernier's effort deflects in off Emmanuel Agbadou. Told you it wouldn't be like watching Brazil. The 3pm action is underway. Stick with us for news of all the goals as they go in. .. By Alex Jennings At The Vitality Stadium Teams are out at the Vitality Stadium and Wolves are wearing a kit that looks remarkably like a Brazil away number - blue with gold trim. Will it be just like watching Brazil? One suspects not, but you never know. Meanwhile, a particularly warm round of applause from the home crowd for Antoine Semenyo, playing here for the first time since being the subject of alleged racist abuse at Anfield on the Premier League's opening night. There is just three minutes to go until the 3pm action begins. The players are heading out. Standby for updates. .. Interesting to watch these teams warm up. Brentford going through full set-piece routines with the entire team while Aston Villa's coaches have their players doing passing drills. The first result of the day is just in. .. and it is a big one. Thomas Frank's Tottenham have replaced Man City at the top of the Premier League after winning 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium. First-half goals from Brennan Johnson and Joao Palhinha did the business for Spurs, who built on last weekend's 3-0 victory over Burnley. Excited to see Ouattara in action for Brentford. He's essentially playing in that Bryan Mbeumo role, coming in off the right to support the striker. In his programme notes, Andrews describes him as having 'an untapped level that he can get to'. Let's see if we see it today. One thing is for sure, they need it. Mbeumo and Wissa scored nearly 40 league goals between them last season. That's not easy to replace. Today's 3pm kick-offs all feature sides with something to prove. Bournemouth and Wolves are both desperate to bounce back after opening-day defeats, while Burnley are eager to show they belong at this level after their setback at Spurs. Sunderland, fresh from victory over West Ham, will see this as a chance to underline that they are more than just survival candidates. And at the Gtech, Brentford's new era under Keith Andrews begins in earnest against a Villa side still finding their rhythm. Discipline will be one of the big themes for Emery's visitors. Villa have had red cards in each of their last two league matches, and another today would be a Premier League first in their history. At the other end of the scale, Burnley and Sunderland will be looking to channel the raw energy of promoted sides into something more controlled. Expect nerves, expect mistakes — but also expect drama, goals and plenty of talking points across all three venues. Much of the attention at the Gtech this afternoon will be on Ollie Watkins, who has an outstanding record against his former club. The England striker has scored on each of his last two visits to Brentford and has been directly involved in 13 goals in his past 18 Premier League appearances in London. Unai Emery knows he needs his No 11 to fire, after Villa mustered just three shots in last week's 0-0 draw with Newcastle — the fewest of any team in the division on matchday one. Emery welcomes goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez back from suspension, while Pau Torres joins Tyrone Mings at centre-back. Brentford, for their part, are without Yoane Wissa and instead turn to Igor Thiago to lead the line. Mikkel Damsgaard returns to the XI after becoming a father, while new boss Keith Andrews is relishing his first Premier League home game in charge. 'We want to make our environment an uncomfortable place for clubs to come, ' he said. With 75 goals scored at this ground last season — more than at any other venue — supporters should be in for a spectacle. Burnley's Premier League return began with a sobering 3-0 defeat at Tottenham, but Scott Parker has challenged his players to draw strength from Turf Moor this afternoon. He makes two changes, with Jacob Bruun Larsen and young midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu — making his first top-flight start — both coming into the XI. 'The fans were crucial last year… they were a driving force, ' Parker said this week. 'There's going to be some adversity, but I've absolutely no doubt our fanbase can help this young team. ' Sunderland, though, arrive with confidence after a thumping 3-0 win over West Ham last time out. Regis Le Bris is forced into one change as Omar Alderete replaces Jenson Seelt in central defence, but otherwise it's the same XI that started so brightly in their top-flight return. New signing Arthur Masuaku waits on the bench, ready for a possible debut, while Nordi Mukiele is still settling in. Burnley were 24 points clear of the Black Cats last season, but the form book has been torn up and both clubs know how important this early-season clash could prove. By Robert Summerscales Wolves arrive on the south coast looking for a response after being swept aside by Manchester City on opening weekend. Vitor Pereira has put his faith in Colombian winger Jhon Arias, who starts for the first time since arriving this summer. All eyes will also be on Jorgen Strand Larsen, with speculation linking him to Newcastle. But Pereira insisted this week: 'I watch him in training and he’s committed. He's preparing himself to play against Bournemouth. ' Bournemouth, meanwhile, are unchanged from their 4-2 defeat at Anfield, when Antoine Semenyo's double briefly had Liverpool rattled. The Ghanaian striker has 13 goals since the start of last season and looks like Iraola's main weapon. Wolves have history on their side, unbeaten in five league visits to the Vitality, but this one feels delicately poised with both teams hunting their first points of the season. So Keith Andrews was just teasing us. In his pre-match press conference, the new Brentford boss had revealed that wantaway star Yoane Wissa was back training with the squad despite deleting all references to the club from his social media account and even hinting he might feature against Aston Villa. Well, he's not. He's not in the squad. Thiago starts up front with new signing Dango Ouatarra also in the XI. For Villa, Emi Martinez returns between the sticks despite Marco Bizot putting in a supreme performance against Newcastle. By Robert Summerscales Scott Parker makes two changes to the Burnley team beaten by Spurs. Jacob Bruun Larsen and Lesley Ugochukwu come in, with the latter making his first Premier League start. Sunderland are forced into one switch as Jenson Seelt misses out after a knock against West Ham. Omar Alderete takes his place in central defence, while new signings Nordi Mukiele and Arthur Masuaku are among the substitutes. Burnley XI: Dubrabka, Walker, Hartman, Esteve, Bruun Larsen, Ugochukwu, Foster, Anthony, Ekdal, Cullen, Hannibal. Subs: Weis, Worrall, Edwards, Tchaouna, Flemming, Ramsey, Sonne, Pires, Laurent. Sunderland XI: Roefs, Hume, Ballard, Alderete, Reinildo, Diarra, Xhaka, Sadiki, Talbi, Mayenda, Adingra. Subs: Patterson, Seelt, Masuaku, Neil, Roberts, Rigg, Le Fée, Guiu, Isidor. By Robert Summerscales Andoni Iraola names an unchanged Bournemouth XI from the side that pushed Liverpool hard on opening day. Antoine Semenyo, who struck twice at Anfield, leads the attack. New signings Amine Adli and Ben Doak, plus fit-again Justin Kluivert, are on the bench. Vitor Pereira hands Jhon Arias his full debut for Wolves in place of Andre, who drops to the bench. Fellow summer recruit Jackson Tchatchoua is also among the substitutes. Bournemouth XI: Petrovic, Smith, Diakite, Senesi, Truffert, Adams, Semenyo, Scott, Tavernier, Brooks, Evanilson. Subs: Dennis, Araujo, Christie, Gannon-Doak, Adli, Kluivert, Soler, Kroupi, Hill. Wolves XI: Jose Sa, Doherty, Agbadou, Toti Gomes, Hoever, Arias, Joao Gomes, Moller Wolfe, Munetsi, Strand Larsen, Bellegarde. Subs: Johnstone, Hugo Bueno, Santiago Bueno, Andre, Hwang, Mosquera, Rodrigo Gomes, Fer Lopez, Tchatchoua. By Robert Summerscales Brentford are without Yoane Wissa, who is not in today's squad, so Igor Thiago leads the line at the Gtech. Mikkel Damsgaard returns to the XI after becoming a father last weekend. Unai Emery recalls Emiliano Martinez in goal after suspension, while Pau Torres partners Tyrone Mings at centre-back. Ollie Watkins starts up front against his former club. Brentford XI: Kelleher, Kayode, Van den Berg, Collins, Lewis-Potter, Yarmoliuk, Henderson, Damsgaard, Outtara, Schade, Thiago. Subs: Valdimarsson, Hickey, Henry, Jensen, Carvalho, Onyeka, Milambo, Ajer, Peart-Harris. Aston Villa XI: Martinez, Cash, Mings, Torres, Digne, Onana, Kamara, Tielemans, Rogers, Mc Ginn, Watkins. Subs: Bizot, Proctor, Bogarde, Maatsen, Rowe, Buendia, Malen, Guessand, Burrowes. By Robert Summerscales Good afternoon and welcome to our live coverage of today's 3pm Premier League kick-offs. We've got three fascinating fixtures: Bournemouth vs Wolves, Burnley vs Sunderland and Brentford vs Aston Villa. Team news is already in — so let's get stuck straight into the build-up.
