By HARRY BAMFORTH, LIVE SPORTS COVERAGE REPORTER and JACK GAUGHAN, NORTH WEST SPORTS REPORTER and JAMES SHARPE and TOM COLLOMOSSE, FOOTBALL REPORTER Updated: 00: 00 AEST, 1 September 2025 21 View comments Follow Daily Mail Sport's live blog for the latest score, team news and updates as Brighton vs Manchester City and Nottingham Forest vs West Ham are both in action in the Premier League. Want to see how Erling Haaland marked his special day? The striker had a few chances to open the scoring before this, but this is the effort that counted. He's just so quick to react to the ball when it comes his way, and he was never going to miss from there. Manchester City coasting on the south coast. They may only have one goal, but they could very easily have four, with Erling Haaland bagging all of them. One will do for now, though. City are in full control, and Brighton have work to do. Oh no. Yankuba Minteh is down and doesn't look in great shape. Rayan Ait-Nouri clips his head with a high boot, but the winger carries on for a few steps before eventually going down. Is it as bad as it seems? Maybe not, but there are protocols in place. What a drab half of football. The best chance of the game so far fell to Lucas Paqueta, but Matz Sels foiled him. And that's about the only thing of note that has happened. Nottingham Forest have been uncharacteristically poor. Oh my. .. Bart Verbruggen will be breathing a sigh of relief as I type this post, as he has just avoided an embarrassing moment by millimetres. He dilly dallies on the ball in his own six-yard box, and Erling Haaland hunts him down. He just about gets the ball away before Haaland gets to him. Matz Sels, wow! Lucas Paqueta looks set to hammer West Ham into the lead, but Sels makes an acrobatic stop to deny him. Mateus Fernandes springs into life down the left, pulls the ball back for Paqueta, who pings a powerful effort toward the roof of the net. Sels leaps miles off teh ground and manages to tip the ball over at full stretch. They have just shown a statistic on Sky Sports that has me inclined to believe that Erling Haaland will one day break the Premier League scoring record. Yep, Alan Shearer's one that is deemed unbreakable. Haaland has scored nine more goals than Shearer had after 100 games in the top flight. He is only 25, so he has lots of time to get 173 more. .. It's Erling Haaland's day after all! I'm not sure why I ever doubted him, he was always going to mark his 100th Premier League appearance with a goal. Omar Marmoush is surrounded by bodies but somehow threads a cheeky pass through to Haaland, who is six yards from goal, and he prods past Bart Verbruggen. It had been coming. Nottingham Forest really are struggling. To be honest, so are West Ham. I think the lack of updates tell you exactly how pants of a 30 minutes it has been at the City Ground. A very low quality affair. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. .. Ironic cheers echo around the Amex as Omar Marmoush blazes the ball over the bar from eight yards out. He really should do better as the ball falls to him in acres of space following a corner, but the Egyptian just leans back way too far. And out of the ground it goes. This just isn't Erling Haaland's day. .. Another two chances come and go, and I'm really not sure how teh first one didn't end up in a goal. He rises highest at the back post to nod a cross toward goal, and you just think it's going to go in. But Bart Verbruggen does brilliantly to beat it clear on the line. Moments later, Haaland rises again, but heads wide while under pressure. This really isn't the Erling Haaland we are used to seeing. OK, maybe I am being harsh as this is more of a half-chance, but you would still expect him to get it on target. The ball falls for the striker just on the edge of the area after a Man City counter, and he drills it wide. Should do better, really. Ohhhhh. .. Callum Hudson-Odoi is screaming for a penalty after Kyle Walker-Peters goes through the back of him in the area. The West Ham man looks a little sheepish as he walks away, but replays show that he did get the ball before the man. Why he made that sort of challenge, though, I'm not sure. A bit silly, and he gets away with one. The first big chance goes to Brighton. The hosts fly forward on the counter and Danny Welbeck sets Kaoru Mitoma through on goal. For some reason, Mitoma takes his chance early and James Trafford has to tip it just wide of the post. Surely he should have waited a bit longer to shoot? What has Erling Haaland done to Jon-Paul van Hecke? The Brighton man really doesn't like the striker and for the second time this game gives him a bit. Haaland ends up in a heap on the floor, and then Van Hecke goes flying into yet another challenge. Unsurprisingly, he gets booked. Mateus Fernandes show what he is about for the first time, and I like what I see. He bursts into life down the left, plays a lovely little give-and-go and then wins a corner. That is the energy that West Ham have been missing. Brighton have started well here. The hosts look sharp going forward, with Kaoru Mitoma giving Manchester City some things to think about. Still, though, not much in terms of chances, which doesn't really help me. The weather is gorgeous, mind. Hope the fans have brought their shades! West Ham have survived 10 minutes without conceding - that's a win. Have they started well? Nope. Have they started badly? Also nope. Forest are clearly causing them problems, but it seems they are coping for now. No major chances to report of yet. Is that really you, Erling Haaland? I said I thought he was going to bag today, but based on what he has just done I am not so sure. The striker races in behind, he is in, surely he is going to bag league goal number 88. But no, he scuffs his shot into teh gloves of Bart Verburggen. Poor. Diego Gomez is back on. .. Well, that's surprising considering he was being treated for three minutes, but the magic sponge has worked. How long will he last? Ooooft. .. Diego Gomez is down and looks in some pain after getting a boot through teh ankle from Tijjani Reijnders. It's certainly not intentional from the Dutchman, he catches him on the follow-through, but it's still a nasty one. I'd be shocked if Gomez carries on here. OK, Fabian Hurzeler. .. I am used to seeing the German in his trackies, but today he is sporting a suave two-piece. Not something I would wear myself, but he looks stylish in it. He is lucky the benches are in teh shade, though, as I'm not sure that outfit would work in the beating sunshine. It would be too hot. Well, that build-up flew by. Both stadiums are full, all four teams are out, and we are underway in our 2pm kick-offs. Let's hope we are entertained. Chris Sutton, former Chelsea striker, on BBC Sport: You just know that Erling Haaland belted this one into the top bins? I have a sneaky feeling that the Norwegian will bag a couple today. he never normally goes two games without scoring. Anyway, the warm-ups have been completed in both Brighton and Nottingham - it's nearly go time. I am hella excited. Pep Guardiola, Man City boss, speaking on Rodri's return to Sky Sports: On sticking with James Trafford : Graham Potter, West Ham boss, speaking to Sky Sports: On West Ham's defensive issues: You could edit the funniest speech bubble into his picture. I always love pictures of Pep Guardiola pre-match; he always seems like he has something on his mind. Sadly, it never looks like a happy thought, but more like he is concerned about something. Maybe he is wondering whether he locked the door to his house before leaving this morning. I do that all the time. Yes, you are reading that sub-heading correctly. Over the years, there have not been many managers able to outsmart Pep Guardiola. Jurgen Klopp was about one of the only ones in the Premier League able to do well against him. However, Hurzeler seems to know how to set up his teams against Guardiola's. Pep Guardiola is winless in both of his Premier League meetings with Brighton boss Fabian Hürzeler, who was only 15 years of age when Guardiola managed his first match with Barcelona in 2008. In Guardiola’s entire top-flight managerial league career, the only manager he’s faced three times without beating is Ronald Koeman. Can he make it three unbeaten today? James Tomkins, former West Ham defender, speaking to Boyle Sports: You know I said that West Ham fans wouldn't be confident? Well, not only have they been rubbish at the start of this season, but they have an awful record against Nottingham Forest. They have lost their last three Premier League matches against Forest, having only lost two of their first 11 against them in the competition (D3 L6). But it gets worse. .. West Ham haven’t scored in any of their last four Premier League visits to the City Ground (D1 L3) – the last Hammers player to score there was Michael Hughes in September 1996. It could be a long day for the Irons faithful. He's been here that long already? It feels like just yesterday that Erling Haaland banged in a brace in his first game for Manchester City, donning a neon and black kit at the London Stadium. Now he is about to step out onto the pitch for the 100th time in the Premier League. Time flies, doesn't it? Haaland has bagged 87 goals since arriving in the top flight, which is just crazy. He has already scored more goals than any other player in his first 100 games. Meanwhile, he’s also scored more than West Brom managed in their first 100 games as a team (86). Many more to come, I suspect. There is a new kid on the block. £40m signing Mateus Fernandes comes straight into the side after making the switch from Southampton. Meanwhile, Mads Hermansen, Max Kilman, and Niclas Fullkrug return after being dropped for the Carabao Cup second round. Crycensio Summerville is also back in the squad after a hamstring injury. Nuno Espirito Santo clearly has favourites. .. For the third game in a row, Nottingham Forest are unchanged. It's clear to see why - they have started well. The new signings all remain on the bench, bar Dan Ndoye. Ohh, funky graphic - I like it! There are three different faces on it from the one that was posted last week when they played Everton. Diego Gomez, Jack Hinshelwood and Joel Veltman all come into the team. Matt O'Riley, Yasin Ayari and Mats Wieffer all drop out. By Harry Bamforth Ready for a bit of team news? Well, it's nearly here. .. for you guys anyway. I already have it, I just want to build some more suspense. It's fair to say, some of the team news is rather interesting. By Harry Bamforth How are we feeling, Hammers? Whether you are on your way to the City Ground right now, or have your head buried in your phone while having a cuppa in the living room, I imagine you're not that confident ahead of today's game. Three defeats from three games, 11 goals conceded, and even |Jarrod Bowen is clashing with fans these days. It's bleak times for West Ham, and they need things to change quickly, starting today. If they don't, Graham Potter will be gone sooner rather than later. By Harry Bamforth I think we may have got carried away at the start of the season. Manchester City squad looked to have brushed off the disappointment from last season and started this one on fire when they battered Wolves on the opening weekend. I even wrote that these are 'scary times' for their rivals. Well, it seems I spoke too soon. One game doesn't tell you everything, and last week proved that. Tottenham breezed past them at the Etihad for the second season running - City never looked like scoring once they went behind. Maybe that was because of how brilliant Spurs were, but then again, they lost at home to Bournemouth yesterday and didn't have a shot until the 55th minute. Weird league, isn't it? City may need a bit more time than we thought, and it will be interesting to see how they react at Brighton today, considering this very fixture last season was at the start of their downfall. Can they bounce back this time? By Harry Bamforth I said it was a big day, didn't I? It feels like the season has only just begun, but this is our last day of Premier League footie for the next two weeks. Yep, I know, god damn international breaks. .. Anyway, he is the menu for the day. Savour it - its the last for a while. SUPER SUNDAY: By Harry Bamforth 'Are you ready for a good time? ' That's a question I have heard AC/DC belt out numerous times over the years on their famous track Are You Ready (what a song). So, that's what I am asking you - are you ready for a big day? The Premier League has a tasty little menu for us today, starting at the Amex Stadium and the City Ground. Brighton host Manchester City, who will be looking to bounce back after disappointment against Tottenham last week. Meanwhile, West Ham travel to Nottingham Forest with their confidence on the floor. Not really the place you want to go when you have had a wretched start to the season. Then later, we have the big one. .. Anyway, that's enough of an intro - let's get cracking my people! OMG West Ham actually putting a new outfield signi. ..
