talk SPORT has you covered for all the latest news as the Premier League action continued on a blockbuster Sunday. Liverpool moved a step closer to the Premier League title by beating Manchester City 2-0 at the Etihad. Arsenal's slip-up against West Ham yesterday allowed Arne Slot's side to claim another victory and move 11 points clear. Big news north of the border, Rangers have parted company with Philippe Clement. The Scottish side have parted ways with the 50-year-old with a 2-0 defeat to St Mirren at Ibrox leaving them 13 points adrift of Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic. Rangers' defeat to St Mirren was their first since 1991, with Gers experiencing a number of other setbacks this season. Their Scottish Cup hopes were ended by Championship side Queen’s Park and lost the League Cup final to Celtic - the Europa League remains their only chance of silverware this season. The decision to dismiss the Belgian boss comes just seven months after he was given a one-year contract extension and only weeks after appointing his new assistant, Issame Charai. A club statement read: "Rangers Football Club can confirm it has tonight parted company with men’s first-team manager, Philippe Clement. "The club would like to put on record their sincere thanks to Philippe for his hard work and dedication during his spell in charge. "A further update from the club will follow in due course. " Mohamed Salah says his current record-breaking season is his favourite as the Liverpool forward continues to set new landmarks almost every week. A man-of-the-match performance in the 2-0 win at Manchester City, which extended the club's lead at the top of the table to 11 points, saw him become the first player in Premier League history to score and assist in both games against the reigning champions in the same season. He has now scored and assisted in 11 Premier League matches this season, the most by a player in a single season in one of Europe's big five leagues since Lionel Messi for Barcelona in 2014-15 (11). Salah has become the first player in Premier League history to register 40-plus goal involvements in two different seasons and the first in Europe's top five leagues to be directly involved in 50 goals across all competitions this season. In scoring the opener he took his tally to 30 for the campaign, 25 of which have been in the league, and moved level with Gordon Hodgson in joint-third in the club's all-time goalscorers list with 241. Asked if he was playing better than ever, Salah told Sky Sports: "I don't know. It is opinion. "Maybe people prefer my first seasons or now but I prefer now because winning the league, helping the young players, it is special. " Earlier today, Alexander Isak made history. After scoring the first goal of his double during Newcastle's 4-3 win over Nottingham Forest, he set a new record. He became the highest-scoring Swede in the Premier League. Isak overtook Arsenal legend Freddie Ljungberg by netting his 49th goal before adding another to make it 50. Speaking after the game, the striker said: "We dropped a bit second-half and conceded sloppy goals, which we have to work on - but we are happy to win the game. "The most important thing was to get back to winning ways and we have a lot of things we can work on. "We want to win more comfortably but it’s a big win. ” Man City boss Pep Guardiola has also given an update on Erling Haaland after he missed the 2-0 defeat today. City lacked a cutting edge against Liverpool and rarely looked like scoring, so they will want to have their main man back. When asked whether Haaland will be fit to play on Wednesday night against Spurs, Guardiola told BBC MOTD: "I don't know. "I am not saying we didn't get the result because Erling was not there. "That is unfair on the other players. We could finish more but in general, it is fine. " Pep Guardiola has given his thoughts after Manchester City were convincingly beaten by Liverpool today. He told Sky Sports: "We played very good. Maybe we missed more productivity in the shots but we played against a fantastic team. Maybe at the start it was 50-50 and we could not convert. "Second half they defended very deep. We have done something we have not tried for many games which was we brought them to their box and tried to beat them there. "The tactic was to arrive in the final third and the byline and it happened a lot but we did not score. "We missed the next bit a little bit and with crosses it is almost impossible to do it because of their size. We could not find the next step. " Liverpool head coach Arne Slot reveals how his team masterminded what was a pretty routine win over the reigning Premier League champions. "By scoring a set-piece, " Slot responded when speaking to Sky Sports. "If you want to win a big game you need a neutral set-piece balance or to score one and not concede. We kept them away from big chances because we made sure they didn't create as much as they normally do. " Slot added: "We as a group of people look at how the set-up is, and someone came up with a brilliant plan and we knew that space could be there. The deflection was so helpful because it wasn't as if we were dominating the game. "The first half played out better for them than for us, apart from the score. "I don't think they had too many big chance but it felt like they were going to score. A lot in the second half, I can't remember them having a big chance. "Ideally, we have the ball more than the other team. But City when it comes to ball possession, they like it a lot and are so comfortable on the ball. The only chance you have to win here is to defend very well. " Later in the interview, Slot said: "Three days ago we had a draw at Villa and people told me we weren't in a good place and then three days later we win and it changes again. "We work every single day to achieve this and it is three months of very hard work to maintain this. "There is no secret. We are 11 points clear but Arsenal has one game in hand. The best attack we had didn't end in a goal. "You always have to adapt to the challenge you have. A week ago we experienced how difficult Wolves at home was. They will always be difficult games, like today. "It is easier for us to not get excited because we know what we have to put in. This result was more about defence than attack. It is normal for fanbases to be positive and it is important to understand why we are where we are. " Liverpool's Dominik Szoboszlai has also been speaking about the win and the away fans' title chants at full time. The Hungarian told Sky Sports: "We played with two number 10s and they managed the game almost 90 per cent but at the end, the result is for us and we are happy to take the three points home. "We were defending 30 metres from our goal and we gave everything. It is part of the game. Sometimes you don't have the ball and we are happy to take the three points. " On the Reds support chanting 'We're gonna win the league' at the Etihad, Szoboszlai continued: "I didn't hear it, I was so tired! "We have to keep going and Newcastle is going to be a tough game and then 11 more games to go. "It never ends so we have to keep calm and keep going and at the end hopefully, we will get there. " Mohamed Salah has now reacted to the 2-0 win moving Liverpool 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League. Speaking to Sky Sports, Salaha said: "It is incredible. It is a very hard place to come and play here. "They are a tough team and they have an incredible manager I am glad in the end we won the game. "It is special. Especially when you are in the title race, it is incredible. "Hopefully we keep calm because sometimes the pressure gets to us. We try to win each game. " When asked about whether he is playing better than ever, he continued: "I don't know. It is opinion. "Maybe people prefer my first seasons or now but I prefer now because winning the league, helping the young players, it is special. "We need another title. Me and the big guys in the team, we need another title. " Pep Guardiola must hate facing Mohamed Salah. Salah has both the most goals (9) and most assists (6) of any player against Guardiola in his top-flight league managerial career. Incredible stuff. After today, the Egyptian is also the first player in Premier League history to score and assist in both games against the reigning champions in a single campaign. That's just another of the many records that he's set today. Liverpool have just done the Premier League double over Manchester City for the first time since 2015-16. Arne Slot has managed to do it in his first season in charge. That 2015/16 double was coincidentally also achieved in Jurgen Klopp's first season in charge of the Reds. It means Man City now trail Liverpool by 20 points. That's the furthest they’ve been away from the top of the table at the end of a day since 14th July 2020. It's full time at the Etihad! Liverpool have cruised to a win against Manchester City. They are now 11 POINTS clear at the top of the table. Reds fans in the away end were chanting 'We're gonna win the league' as the whistle blew. Is the title race done and dusted now? Arsenal would like to think not, but after their loss yesterday, they have a mountain to climb to overtake them. Simply brilliant from Arne Slot's side. 90' We'll have four minutes of added time. Liverpool are looking set to see this one out. They're about to go 11 points clear at the top. A perfect performance from the Reds. 87' Plenty of empty seats are appearing. The Man City fans know this game is over. In previous years, this game was one of the most equally contested in the Premier League. But Liverpool have been a level above today. We're into the final few minutes at the Etihad. 84' Abdukodir Khusanov makes a brilliant block. Ruben Dias loses the ball in his own half and it leads to Liverpool breaking at pace yet again. It comes to Mohamed Salah on the right who holds things up slightly before slotting in Dominik Szoboszlai. Szoboszlai shoots but Ederson saves well from close range. 81' Another substitution at the Etihad. Luis Diaz comes off for Cody Gakpo who has returned from injury to see out the rest of this game. That change came after Mohamed Salah had a shot saved by Ederson after he moved past Joskov Gvardiol. Salah continues to be a major threat on the break and Man City won't want to concede another goal. 78' It's all Man City as time is running out. They're looking to probe and find a way past the Reds defence but they just can't seem to break through. Pep Guardiola has made three changes to try and do so. Ilkay Gundogan, Ruben Dias and Mateo Kovacic are on. Omar Marmoush, Nathan Ake and Nico Gonzalez are replaced. 75' Liverpool have made a double switch. Andy Robertson and Curtis Jones are off. Konstantinos Tsimikas and Wataru Endo come on. Alexis Mac Allister will move forward in midfield while Endo sits deeper to see this game out. 73' Alisson is forced into another save! This time, it's a bit tougher than his previous stops. A nice cross from Savinho bounces through the box to find Jeremy Doku at the back post. He takes one touch and shoots but his effort isn't clean and it is drilled into the clutches of the goalkeeper. Just over 15 minutes to go now. 70' It's all Man City at the moment. They're having all the ball, just like they have for most of the game, but they just can't break through. Liverpool have been superb at the back today. Erling Haaland watches on as his side struggle to score. He'd have made a difference if he was fit to feature. 67' Man City make the first change of the game. Kevin De Bruyne comes off. James Mc Atee takes his place for the last 20 minutes or so. De Bruyne very rarely plays a full 90 minutes, so that's not too much of a surprise to see him replaced. City do lose some creativity with that change though. 64' The home fans are silent at the moment. They lifted after the goal was ruled out, however, things have quietened down again now. That's likely due to Liverpool's quality. Luis Diaz has just had a curling shot saved by Ederson as again, they broke at pace and got an effort away. The resulting corner is headed away by Josko Gvardiol. 61' We're into the last half an hour at the Etihad. Omar Marmoush had another effort following Curtis Jones' disallowed goal as Man City looked to hit back. But since then, Liverpool have pushed on. They've had another corner which led to Andy Robertson blasting an effort well over the crossbar. 58' IT WON'T COUNT! Liverpool are denied a third goal of the game! Dominik Szoboszlai just strayed offside in the build-up. Curtis Jones and the Reds' away end come back down to earth. Man City need to be buoyed by that now. 58' THIS IS JUST SUPERB FROM LIVERPOOL! THEY HAVE A THIRD AT THE ETIHAD! Curtis Jones taps home after a neat pass from Ryan Gravenberch sent Dominik Szoboszlai through on goal. Szoboszlai just plays it to his side to find Jones who scores. VAR is going to take look though, as this could be offside. .. 55' Liverpool look so dangerous going forward. Every attack is so smooth and a chance come out of it. Curtis Jones has just come very close to getting on the end of an outside-of-the-boot cross from Mo Salah. Then Salah beats Josko Gvardiol on the right before Dominik Szoboszlai's backheel is cut out. It's fair to say Pep Guardiola's not enjoying himself. .. © 2025 talk SPORT Limited
