Rangers captain James Tavernier's representatives have held talks with clubs in Qatar and Turkey, talk SPORT understands. Tavernier could be tempted to leave Ibrox after being subjected to fan abuse following last weekend's Old Firm derby defeat to Celtic. The defender was subjected to a foul-mouthed tirade from one fan in particular, as he returned to Ibrox with teammates after the 3-0 loss. The 32-year-old was labelled a ‘loser’ and told the defeat to Celtic was ‘embarrassing’ by the fan, after angry supporters gathered to vent their fury. The Gers’ skipper was visibly angered by the abuse directed at him and teammates and appeared to shout back at the fan before security intervened. A fan jumped to Tavernier’s defence in the wake of the criticism but the damage could already be done for the defender. Rangers boss Philippe Clement was also confronted by angry fans after the defeat at Celtic Park. The Belgian fronted up to fans outside Ibrox but his reasoning behind the defeat did not sit well with the hoards of amped up fans. "We know we are at the start of something, " Clement said. "16 players left the club. We have a lot of new guys, a lot of young guys. "Look also at the age difference between the starting XI of Celtic and ours. So we know we have a lot of things to work on but we also see the potential that is there. "Celtic played today also with a team that's been together for more than one year together. Some guys for two, three, four years. It's normal they have more automaticity. "Also when they bring the new ones in that they paid a lot of money for, it's not the same, even now. So we know we have a way to go but we're going to work hard on that. " The tensions are set to have bitter consequences with Tavernier, who was linked with a move away from the club in the summer, now in line to end his nine-year association with the club. The full-back has played over 400 times for the Gers, scoring 125 goals, registering some of the best attacking statistics in history for a defender. Sunday’s incident has alerted clubs in Qatar who have until September 9, to add to their squads while Turkish club’s can remain active in the transfer market until September 13. Turkish Super Lig clubs Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Istanbul Basaksehir have all shown an interest in the 32-year-old. Tavenier’s former manager at Ibrox, Giovanni van Bronkhorst, now head coach at Besiktas, is also understood to be keeping tabs on the defender.
