By TUM BALOGUN and MATT BARLOW AT IBROX STADIUM Published: 04: 55 AEDT, 13 December 2024 | Updated: 08: 57 AEDT, 13 December 2024 49 View comments Follow Mail Sport's live blog for the latest team news, updates and live score from the Europa League clash between Rangers and Tottenham at Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow. By Tum Balogun By Tum Balogun THAT'S IT! It's a tad disappointing that the referee decided to blow his whistle just before Rangers were about to take a free-kick. Still, it was a superb match full of chances, momentum swings and some great goals. A draw does neither side any favours really. Rangers remain in the final automatic qualification place just ahead of Spurs, who will need to get some wins in their final two matches. By Tum Balogun Most viewers wan double that but we'll have to settle for only three minutes at the end of this one. Can either team snatch the win that both will feel they deserve? By Tum Balogun BUTLAND SAVES! It's Tottenham's turn to try and win this and they nearly did through Solanke. The visitors fashioned another chance with Son's interplay with Maddison. The midfielder clipped a ball into the box which Solanke could only get a light touch on. By Tum Balogun HOW HAS DESSERS NOT SCORED? !? Fraser Forster, that's how. The Spurs keeper bails them out right at the end of this match with an outstanding stop after Dessers brilliant move to fashion the chance. Moments later the forward thought he had atoned for his miss when he knocked the ball into the back of the net but the official quickly raised his flag for offside. By Tum Balogun By Tum Balogun Tavernier denies Solanke after some truly sublime link-up with Kulusevski. If Solanke managed to pull off what he was trying that would have been a contender for goal of the tournament. By Tum Balogun Igamane's race is run. He departs for Dessers, while Fraser replaces Yilmaz. By Tum Balogun THAT IS CLASS! Spurs are level and their man of the season so far. The Swede completes a superb move from the visitors. It's the best move of the match from Spurs and they've taken the sting round out of the crowd. Kulusevski started the move with a run through midfield and found Solanke. The striker played it back into the box where Son allowed it to run and KKulsevski calmly slotted past Butland. GAME ON! By Tum Balogun The Tottenham youngster becomes the third player in the book and it's another harsh one from the official. Bergvall ran through the Rangers midfield and played a pass before catching a Gers player with his follow-through. Fine, give a foul, but a yellow? Really? By Tum Balogun Clement brings on Sterling and Barron for Cerny and Barjrami as he looks to ensure his side has enough legs to maintain their mammoth effort in the closing stages. By Tum Balogun The Spurs defender is cautioned after stopping a Rangers counterattack and I think that was quite harsh. By Tum Balogun Jack Butland keeps Pedro Porro at bay after the fullback got on the end of James Maddison's cross from just inside the area. Spurs have thrown caution to the wind, they need a result in this game, not even because of their Europa League prospects. But more so to arrest this terrible run they've been on. By Tum Balogun Slight over-confidence from Rangers there? Tavernier did well to win the ball off Son on the flank and turned inside and played a dangerous pass to Raskin who was under pressure from Maddison. The former Leicester star pounced won the ball and was fouled just outside the area. Rangers got away with one as Maddison fired the resulting set-piece well over the bar. By Tum Balogun Solanke, Bergvall and Sarr are on for Johnson, Bissouma and Bentancur. There's been no change of shape from Postecoglou but the switch now sees Son move out to the left flank. By Matt Barlow At Ibrox Stadium By Tum Balogun Rangers are banging at the door! They go close to a second again with Diomande's strike from the edge of the area that is deflected away. Spurs are living dangerously. By Tum Balogun Brennan Johnson came close to levelling for the visitors with a curling shot from the edge of the area but the Welsh winger just couldn't get his angles right and saw his effort fly over the bar. It's better from Spurs, who look to have quelled that period of Rangers dominance. Postecoglou looks to be readying more subs. They need something. By Tum Balogun By Tum Balogun It's a big few minutes for Postecoglou's side here now. Rangers are well on top and are being driven forward by their vocal home support. Cerny has just had a little wander into the Tottenham box, while the home side were close with a cross moments earlier. By Tum Balogun IBROX ERUPTS! !! Igamane breaks the deadlock and it's a brilliant goal from the home side. Tavernier clips a great ball into the in-form striker, who confidently side-foots the ball into the corner of the net for his fifth goal in as many games. By Tum Balogun The home side get the second half underway at Ibrox. Postecoglou has blinked first and brought on Kulusevski for Timo Werner. Let's see if we'll get the goals we want in the second half. By Tum Balogun It's been a pretty even first period despite the eye test showing that Rangers have been in command. Forster has been forced into three saves, though Spurs have enjoyed more time on the ball. By Matt Barlow At Ibrox Stadium By Tum Balogun It's not been a bad watch but we are still goalless. It hasn't been for the lack of trying, from Rangers at least. The home side will be delighted with that first period, if not a little frustrated not to have capitalised on their dominance. Cerny has been particularly impressive on the right flank, while Fraser Forster has for Tottenham, producing a few vital stops to keep the scoreline level. It's set up for a thrilling second 45 in Glasgow. By Tum Balogun Cerny nearly broke the deadlock right at the end of the half. The winger hit a rasper towards goal but Forster was equal to it. By Tum Balogun The flag has gone up but that shouldn't stop us from celebrating a brilliant save from Jack Butland. The Rangers keeper stayed big and strong and deflected Son's shot from about three yards after some great work between Maddison and Werner. Spurs have swung the momentum back in their favour again. By Matt Barlow At Ibrox Stadium By Tum Balogun Souttar looks to have done some real damage to his groin and needs to be replaced by Leon Balogun ( no relation, I don't think anyway). Rangers will hope the centre half will be fit enough to play against Celtic on Sunday but it doesn't look great. By Tum Balogun Cerny tries his luck from range but it fails to test Forester. It's the latest effort from the home side who seem to have accepted the fact that they need a goal in this period. By Tum Balogun Rangers have well and truly swung the momentum of this tie in the last few minutes. The crowd can sniff a goal is close and that energy is driving these players on. They've had a couple of half-chances from the edge of the area but nothing clear cut just yet. Can they capitalise on this period on top? By Tum Balogun Forster makes a save he should make from Cerny's half volley but moments later Rangers should really have taken the lead through Jefte. The winger was so close to connecting with Yilmaz's superb cross on the left flank. By Matt Barlow At Ibrox Stadium By Tum Balogun Diomande becomes the first name in the book after a blatant handball. That means he misses Rangers' next Europa League tie against Manchester United. He's got to be careful not to get sent off in this one. By Tum Balogun Tottenham have taken control and we've seen the blueprint for the game. Rangers are content to let their guests have the lion's share of possession and pounce on the break. Only problem is that Rangers look less threatening as the half has gone on and Spurs are looking way more dangerous. The likes of Maddison, Son and Bissouma have all got themselves on the ball in the middle in the last few minutes. Worrying stuff for Rangers. By Tum Balogun It's been a decent start to the game by Archie Gray, who is being targetted by the Rangers attack. The youngster is playing in the unfamiliar centre-back position but has gone about his work impressively in the opening minutes of the game. By Tum Balogun Forster's vital intervention keeps the scoreline level after a great break spearheaded by Raskin. The midfielder drove through the pitch and let off a crisp shot that was diverted away by the Spurs keeper. The home side weren't able to capitalise on the resulting corner. By Tum Balogun That was a bit of quality from Spurs to fashion a shot on goal. Only problem for the visitors was that the chance fell to Timo Werner. Son had wriggled his way around a couple of Rangers defenders before the ball fell to the German on the right corner of the box. But Werner could only produce a tame effort that sailed over the bar. By Tum Balogun Good response from Rangers. Clement will be delighted by how his team have bit back to Spurs' early foray into their box. No chances to speak of just yet but the home side have produced a few nervy moments for Postecoglou's side already. By Matt Barlow At Ibrox Stadium By Tum Balogun Lightening quick start from Tottenham who carve through the Rangers' defence on their first attempt. The home side were able to stop Spurs' march towards their goal when the ball fell to the feet of Werner but it is nevertheless an encouraging start for the visitors. By Tum Balogun Spurs get the game underway under the lights at Ibrox. The atmosphere is immense. Let's see if the players can match it. By Tum Balogun The Ibrox crowd are in full voice as they welcome both sets of players out onto the pitch for tonight's game. Scotland vs England, let's hope it's a good one. By Tum Balogun And finally, the moment has nearly arrived. The action gets underway at Ibrox in a few short minutes. Stay tuned for all the updates from Glasgow. By Tum Balogun Philippe Clement, Rangers boss, TNT Sports: By Tum Balogun The early matches have just come to a close across Europe and there were one or two dramatic finishes. Most notable was Manchester United's spirited turnaround against Plzen. Amorimwon't have to look so glum for the next few days at least. By Tum Balogun Peter Crouch, TNT Sports: By Tum Balogun Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham boss, TNT Sports: By Tum Balogun Here are the rest of the troops. Kick-off at Ibrox is less than 30 minutes away. By Tum Balogun It's not just former Celtic stopper Fraser Forest getting ready for the match, I promise. He is joined by his teammates ahead of the 8pm kick-off in Glasgow. By Tum Balogun Whoever wins tonight is going to take a massive step towards automatically qualifying for the next stage. Rangers sit just above Tottenham at the moment but only on goal difference. Both sides have 10 points from their first five matches. Interestingly, Spurs have spent the most minutes (276, inc. injury time) and the greatest proportion of their games (57 per cent) in a winning position among all clubs in the Europa League this season. Yet they find themselves in 10th place. Classic Spurs! By Tum Balogun Peter Crouch, TNT Sports: By Tum Balogun They've put the flags out on the seats at Ibrox, which means the home fans will soon be jubilantly waving their team on against Tottenham. The Premier League outfit will have to be wary of getting swept up by the emotion of the night, especially given their injury woes. By Tum Balogun Tottenham have won the only two previous games against Rangers, which came during their successful Cup Winner's Cup campaign in 1963. That triumph saw Spurs become the first English team to lift a European Cup. They came through a tricky second round against the Scottish side 8-4 on aggregate after 5-2 and 3-2 wins. By Tum Balogun By Tum Balogun James Tavernier, Rangers captain, pre-match presser: By Matt Barlow At Ibrox Stadium By Tum Balogun Postecoglou makes five changes to the side that suffered that demoralising 4-3 defeat against Chelsea on Sunday. With Van de Ven and Romero injured, Dragusin returns and it looks like he'll be partnered by Archie Gray in the centre of defence. Elsewhere, Solanke drops to the bench and Maddison and Bentancur make the starting side. By Tum Balogun Clement has brought skipper Tavernier back into the starting XI tonight in place of Dujon Sterling, while Ridvan replaces Barron in the middle. By Tum Balogun Moroccan striker Hamza Igamane has been a revelation in recent weeks and has four goals in his last four matches. Two of those came in their 4-1 demolition of Nice last month. Still only 22, this is the kind of match that could get clubs Premier League clubs interested in acquiring his services. By Tum Balogun The Tottenham hero had a short spell at Ibrox towards the end of his career when he came face-to-face with Postcoglou's all-conquering outfit. Defoe shed some light on what it's like to face a team managed by the Australian and he revealed what he believes Postecoglou needs to do to get his team out of their slump. By Matt Barlow At Ibrox Stadium By Tum Balogun Les Ferdinand, former Tottenham star, TNT Sports: By Tum Balogun It's not long until we find out. The visitors have now arrived at Ibrox for the match kick-off in a little under 90 minutes. By Tum Balogun It's another hectic night in the Europa League with Spurs' clash against Rangers one of 18 ties taking place on Thursday night. Manchester United are struggling against Cezechian side Viktoria Plzen and there's an eye-catching clash between Ajax and Lazio in Amsterdam. By Tum Balogun For a man who ran riot in the Scottish top flight during two years with Celtic, Postecoglou doesn't actually have the dominant record at Ibrox that you would expect. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad, it's just not as good as I was expecting. In four matches against his former rivals at their home stadium, Postecoglou claimed only one win, drew once and lost a couple of times. By Tum Balogun Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham boss, pre-match presser: By Tum Balogun Rangers are hoping to break a sorry run of winless games against English sides in Europe (6). The Gers last defeated a side south of the border during the 1992-93 campaign when they triumphed over Leeds thanks to Ally Mc Coist's 59th-minute diving header. By Tum Balogun Philippe Clement, Ranger boss, pre-match presser: By Tum Balogun A mitigating factor in Tottenham's topsy-turvy form has to be the injuries that have suffered. But after the same thing happened last term you really have to wonder whether it's a byproduct of Postecoglou's all-action style. The club are reportedly not taking any chances and they've launched their second medical department review. For more on that story, READ BELOW. By Tum Balogun The Rangers players are already in the building! The squad have arrived at Ibrox in good spirits ahead of the meeting against Tottenham and they have good reason for it. Rangers brushed aside Ligue 1 side Nice 4-1 in their last Europa League clash and they'll be confident of getting a result against this inconsistent Spurs outfit. By Tum Balogun Ange Postecoglou returns to the city where he enjoyed phenomenal success with Celtic, only this time he's bringing a Tottenham outfit short of confidence after a few bruising weeks. The most recent - and potentially most damaging - result came at the weekend when Spurs gave up a 2-0 advantage against their London rivals Chelsea. Postecoglou's side have the chance to put things right and get their European campaign back on track. This a competition Spurs should feel confident about winning, they were the faviourtes before a ball was kicked. Tottenham take on a Rangers side ahead of them on goal difference in the Europa League table after a couple of stunning European wins. Philippe Clement's side will be no pushovers as they come into the game off the back of an eight-game unbeaten run. We'll have all the news for you ahead of the 8pm kick-off, including insight from our very pwn Matt Barlow who is wrapped up at Ibrox. Make sure you stay tuned for all the action when it gets underway! Published by Associated Newspapers Ltd Part of the Daily Mail, The Mail on Sunday & Metro Media Group
