Daily Mail Sport understands that centre back Gomez has not ruled out making the late switch to Italy, having also explored his options last summer. There is a degree of hesitance on Merseyside, however, owing to his versatility and leadership, but this stance could change depending on developments around Guehi. Milan are on the hunt for a new defender after selling Malick Thiaw to Newcastle and Gomez has emerged as a target in recent days.  Manchester City's Manuel Akanji was also on the radar at the San Siro, but reportedly rebuffed an approach.   A swoop for Gomez may not be straightforward either. Milan will, of course, still need to reach an agreement with Liverpool and find a compromise on personal terms. Palace asked about taking Gomez on loan on a separate deal, but Liverpool refused. Arne Slot wants to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle with just a matter of hours remaining in the window, but a second bid has not been made. Isak reiterated his desire to move to Anfield and sources have told Daily Mail Sport there is an acceptance that a sale would be best for all parties.   Liverpool are almost certain to return with a follow-up offer for the frontman after their opening bid of £110m was rejected earlier this month. Newcastle have privately insisted they would need two strikers before selling Isak, but the arrival of Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart is a significant step closer to a British record deal north of £130m finally going through.
