When you look they had just one touch in the half. We were ahead of them. "In the end we deserved a point but in the end it looks like a mirror of our home performances. "I think you saw in this game just how competitve we are. I couldn't see a difference from second in the table to us but the biggest wish for us was to give our fans a good result. "Now it's all about recovery and we go again in out eight finals, they next opponents are not easy. " On Sheffield United's goal: "I think we have a three on two situation and even then we had a chance to defend it but this is exactly it in these moments. "In the second half there was nothing from them, we had so many touches in their half but they unfortunately get the goal. "This game described a lot about us this season, we had chances to win the game and the centre-back comes off with an injury. " FT: Sheff Wed 0-1 Sheff Utd Sheffield United Sheffield United captain Jack Robinson speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield: "It feels really good, it was a scrappy game but we got the three points in the end. "It's one of our key aspects to see games out like that. The lads have dug it out with the Championship being a hard league, playing Tuesday, Saturday. All credit to the lads it's on them to put us where we are in such a tough league. On Blades keeper Michael Cooper: "He top class, he's saved us again at the end with a good save from Marvin Johnson. It's good to have him front of us. " On goalscorer Rhian Brewster: "Made up for him, he deserves it, he's a really hard-working lad. " FT: Sheff Wed 0-1 Sheff Utd Sheffield United midfielders Sydie Peck and Gus Hamer went over to the away fans with a shirt dedicated to former Blades full-back George Baldock after today's game. The difference between second and fourth is 20 points - farcical for the teams that have performed for the season. Slacky, Portsmouth FT: Sheff Wed 0-1 Sheff Utd It's a long way back for the Owls in their bid to get a top six spot. They're down in 12th, six points off sixth-placed West Brom with eight games to play. They had their moments today but their poor home form has been their undoing this season. They've won just five of their 19 games at Hillsborough, placing them above only Hull City in the terms of games won at home. FT: Sheff Wed 0-1 Sheff Utd Sheffield United Sheffield United goalscorer Rhian Brewster speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield: "I don't think it's sunk in yet, it's surreal to be honest. "With the injuries and since I've come from Liverpool I've not been able to get the goals I wanted but I hope it shows the fans I have the belief. "The atmosphere was amazing from both sets of fans. From the moment we came and to scoring it goes silent in that one end. " On his goal: "I looked at Ty [Tyrese Campbell] and thought please play it, I got cramp when I was about to hit it and when it went in I was like yes. "We come into the game wanting to win like any other game but this game had more commotion being a derby. It's a big three points and now we have to recover and prepare for Coventry. " FT: Sheff Wed 0-1 Sheff Utd What a signing goalkeeper Michael Cooper has been for Sheffield United. Two more big saves for him in this match, from Michael Smith early on and Marvin Johnson near the end. One of those annoying ones where you have to say that it'll go down to the last day. Leeds do seem to be the strongest side, however. Anon FT: Sheff Wed 0-1 Sheff Utd FT: Sheff Wed 0-1 Sheff Utd Lee Bullen Former Sheffield Wednesday player on BBC Radio Sheffield There was not a great deal of difference from the first game. One mistake and a bit of brilliance from Sheffield United. Both sides had good pockets of play but unfortunately United come away again with the win. They'll be a lot of disappointed in the Wednesday dressing room and coming out of the stands. You've got to give Michael Cooper credit but Wednesday didn't play poorly. Credit to both teams, they put a lot of energy into the game. I think Cooper was player of the match. FT: Sheff Wed 0-1 Sheff Utd Billy Sharp Former Sheffield United striker on BBC Radio Sheffield Absolutely fantastic. Sheffield United had to work hard for that. Sheffield Wednesday will be disappointed. They created more than the last game. A tight cagey affair and one goal decides it. They wont win the league after this game but they will gain confidence getting a win over their local rivals. The way United set up - it's a different style away from home and to come way from your rivals with a 1-0 win, they'll take that all day long. They remain unbeaten in this fixture for 13 years. A great way to go into the international break for them. Sheff Wed 0-1 Sheff Utd The Steel City derby spoils go, once again, to Sheffield United. The Blades had not had a shot on target all game up until Rhian Brewster's tap in after 64 minutes and that was enough. Sheffield Wednesday started the game well and chucked the lot at it in the final minutes but it's now five successive games against their bitter rivals without a goal. United move back up to second and are level on points with table-topping Leeds. Sheff Wed 0-1 Sheff Utd Corner for the home side. Last minute. Keeper up. The Blades stand up to it once more and hammer it clear as the whistle goes! Sheff Wed 0-1 Sheff Utd Into the final 90 seconds now and the away side have a free-kick deep in their own half. They. .. won't rush to take this one. Sheff Wed 0-1 Sheff Utd Rare United foray forward but the home side get back and snuff it out. Sheff Wed 0-1 Sheff Utd Michael Cooper clutches the corner with ease. Waste for the Owls. Sheff Wed 0-1 Sheff Utd Billy Sharp Former Sheffield United striker on BBC Radio Sheffield Michael Cooper is assured and puts you at ease. Rhian Brewster might get player of the match for his goal but Cooper has been really good. Rhian Brewster's goal for Sheffield United was decisive in the Steel City derby Rhian Brewster's goal gave Sheffield United a derby victory over Sheffield Wednesday and put the Blades level on points with Championship leaders Leeds. It also clinched United's first league double over their city rivals since 2005-06 - and dented the Owls' play-off hopes. The game was nervy, with both sides needing the points to boost their promotion bids. United keeper Michael Cooper denied Michael Smith in the first half and a vital Harrison Burrows block stopped Josh Windass from giving Wednesday the lead in the second. Defeat leaves Wednesday six points off the top six with eight games to play, after they had racked up consecutive away wins to reignite their play-off chances. Poor form at Hillsborough has haunted Wednesday all season - they have the second-worst record on their own turf in the division - while the Blades have been the best away side in the competition, this being their sixth consecutive away win. Wednesday carved out the better chances in a tight and occasionally edgy derby, but United are grinding out results - the win means they have lost just once in their past nine league games. Danny Rohl's side began the stronger and when Ryo Hatsuse whipped a cross onto the head of Smith, Cooper brilliantly pushed his header over the bar. With some bad blood lingering from United's win in the Bramall Lane derby in November, the game was tetchy, with six yellow cards, and tempers flared into a pushing match between players after Callum Paterson kicked the ball at Ben Brereton Diaz as the United striker lay prone following a foul by Barry Bannan. Tyrese Campbell was United's biggest danger, dragging one attempt across the face of goal and then being denied by keeper James Beadle's sharp dash off his line after Gustavo Hamer's slick pass threatened to free the visitors' top scorer. Campbell was also inches away from a Burrows drilled cross-cum-shot and in the second half a Smith back=heel teed up Windass, only for Burrows to hurl himself in the way of his goal-bound shot. Campbell's next involvement was decisive, however, as he raced onto a pass from Sydie Peck and ghosted past Michael Ihiekwe. His cross deflected kindly into the path of Brewster, who could not miss and duly chalked up his third goal of the season. Wednesday tried to rally but their only real chance went begging when Marvin Johnson's volley was parried by Cooper straight to Svante Ingelsson. The substitute had to make instinctive contact as the ball flew at him, and he could only send it high over the bar. Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl told BBC Radio Sheffield: "When you look at the second half and see the opponents had just one touch in our box - the goal - and that we created chances, more possession and set-pieces, and more shots on target, we were ahead of them and deserved a point. "At the end it looks like a mirror of our home performances - we dominated phases of the game and created chances, but there is still one moment where the opponents scored. "You saw how competitive we are and I couldn't see a difference between second position (United) and our position in the table. "I can't complain. It was an intensive week and we took six points from nine, which is not so bad, but for me the biggest wish was to give our fans a good result and at the end we couldn't. " After the game, manager Chris Wilder held aloft the number two shirt worn by former Sheffield United defender George Baldock, who died in October Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder told BBC Radio Sheffield: "It feels good. I talked to the players before (about) how we were ridiculed for being in League One, a pub league and all that, since I took over in 2016. We managed to close the gap. "I wanted to adjust the narrative that we weren't a pub league side and all of a sudden it changes and now we're a rival. It changes, we're now 31 points above them. "The supporters are the supporters, fabulous from both sets, the noise here was fabulous. I knew what the game was going to be like. "To do the double over our rivals was always going to be a good day. We had the welcoming committee in the car park. It was the game that we thought it would be. "In time it will swing back in Sheffield Wednesday's favour because that's what's happened in the past 125 years. They've been on top, then us, then them, and us. "There's still work to be done. There's a promotion on the horizon. It's going to be an absolutely titanic tussle. " On goalscorer Rhian Brewster: "He grabbed his opportunity. He came during a difficult period and he's had massive injuries. He's every example of boys giving it their all in front of the Kop End to give us a double. "Losing was never in my mind. All I talked about was win, win, win. " Comments can not be loaded To load Comments you need to enable Java Script in your browser Last Updated 16th March 2025 at 14: 26 Please Note: All times UK.
