Oliver Sonne scored a late winner for Burnley against Derby at Turf Moor At a glance Aaron Ramsey gives Burnley early lead at Turf Moor RB Salzburg loanee Bobby Clark equalises for Derby Oliver Sonne breaks Rams' hearts with stoppage-time strike PLAYER RATER Oliver Sonne scored a stoppage-time winner as Burnley reached the third round of the Carabao Cup with victory over Championship side Derby. With a penalty shootout looming, Sonne ran on to Mike Tresor's perfectly weighted through ball before guiding a low, left-footed finish into the net via the inside of the post. The Clarets had made the perfect start at Turf Moor, Aaron Ramsey giving them a fourth-minute lead with a well-placed effort from Armando Broja's pass. The Rams, who enjoyed plenty of possession in the first half, equalised 10 minutes before half-time when former Liverpool midfielder Bobby Clark finished off a fine move with a composed finish. Zian Flemming headed straight at Derby goalkeeper Josh Vickers late in the first half, while Loum Tchaouna flashed a shot narrowly wide from a tight angle as Burnley sought to re-establish their advantage. The lively Tchaouna then struck the post with a low shot inside the area, but Derby's resistance was finally broken by Sonne in second-half added time. Scott Parker's team will discover their third-round opponents when the draw takes place following the conclusion of Wednesday's tie between Grimsby Town and Manchester United. Despite making 11 changes to their starting XI, Burnley managed to follow up Saturday's 2-0 Premier League win over Sunderland with another victory – but they were made to work for it. They took the lead with their first attack of the game as Tchaouna's cross into Flemming was picked up by Broja, who showed excellent composure to tee up Ramsey for the game's opener. Derby, who themselves made eight changes to the team that held Bristol City in the Championship on Friday, saw plenty of the ball early on without threatening debutant Max Weiss in the Burnley goal. But their patience in possession soon paid off when RB Salzburg loanee Clark – who had more touches in the opposition box than any other player on the pitch in the first half – finished confidently past Weiss. The Clarets had the better chances after half-time, but few would have begrudged Derby a hard-earned penalty shootout against their top-flight opponents. As it was, Burnley's quality eventually told as Denmark-born Sonne – who plays for the Peruvian national team – grabbed a dramatic late winner to book his team's place in the next round.
