Milan Smit joined Stoke City from Go Ahead Eagles in January Milan Smit scored an added-time penalty for Stoke City to deny Ipswich Town victory in a thrilling game at the bet365 Stadium. The Tractor Boys had produced a stirring fightback from two goals down at half-time to take the lead, but Cedric Kipre was penalised for pulling back Lamine Cisse and Smit made no mistake from the spot. The Dutchman had earlier put Stoke in front with his first goal in English football and Bae Jun-Ho added a second before the break. Town needed a swift response and produced it when Wes Burns' deflected shot reduced the deficit, and Jack Taylor fired them level in a dramatic turnaround before Kipre fed George Hirst for what looked like the winner. But Kieran Mc Kenna's side could not hold out to the final whistle and their disappointment at a second successive draw was compounded by third-placed Millwall's 1-0 home win against Derby County. Ipswich stay fourth, three points behind the Lions, and four adrift of Middlesbrough in second, with 10 games to play. Coburn's goal gives Millwall victory over Derby Hull boost play-off hopes with Wrexham win Ipswich brought their two Jacks – Taylor and Clarke – back into the starting line-up, but playmaker Marcelino Nunez was absent because of a knock, while Stoke made five changes, with the suspended Sorba Thomas and injured captain Ben Wilmot among 12 senior players unavailable. The first clear chance of the game came the home side's way as a quick break led to Jesurun Rak-Sakyi cutting the ball back to Tomas Rigo, whose effort was saved with his feet by Christian Walton. Ipswich almost went in front when Burns sent a long cross into the box after Stoke cleared their lines from a corner, but Kipre's downward header bounced up against the post. There was an element of controversy about Stoke's opener as Ipswich claimed a foul against Maksym Talovierov, then handball against Manhoef, who outsmarted Kipre and fired against the upright before the ball was recycled by Rigo and Smit turned it home in from close range as Town appealed in vain again, this time for offside. The visitors only had themselves to blame for the second goal, though. Taylor was caught in possession by Rigo when they tried to play the ball out from their own area, allowing Jun-Ho to thump the ball past Walton from 20 yards. Stoke looked confident immediately after the interval, but a good passing move found Burns in space on the right, and a deflection off Eric Bocat wrongfooted keeper Tommy Simkin, who could not prevent the ball crossing the line. Clarke brought a good save from Simkin with a left-foot shot before Taylor volleyed in an equaliser after Stoke failed to clear a long throw. But the action then switched to the other end, where Walton was fully extended to keep out Rak-Sakyi's inswinging corner and Ashley Phillips headed Manhoef's cross over from four yards. Ipswich, though, responded and after Azor Matusiwa won the ball, Kipre played it into the channel and substitute Hirst swept home his ninth goal of the season. The final action, however, saw Smit level from the spot as Ipswich, who are next in action away to already relegated Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, had to settle for another draw, while Stoke remain 15th and have now won only once in 11 matches. Stoke boss Mark Robins told BBC Radio Stoke: "We were brilliant in the first half, transition moments really good, average age of 23, good performances all throughout the team, they were really aggressive and we gave them a lot of problems. "We didn't really give them anything - they played with the wind in the first half and we played against it - and when we came in at half-time I said 'well done, (we want) more of the same. "We know the wind is going to be against them, we can't drop too deep, we've got do the same things, keep putting pressure on them and use the ball well, but all the things that are pre-requisites for us, we didn't do. "To go 3-2 down was really disappointing. (But) Lamine Cisse gets thrown to the ground, it may look a little bit soft but it's our first penalty of the season, Smudge shows good technique and good courage and gains us a point after it looked like we'd snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. " This video can not be played Mark Robins: ‘You can’t do anything unless you’re together’ Ipswich Town boss Kieran Mc Kenna told BBC Radio Suffolk: "We know we shouldn't end up in that situation, and Cedric puts an arm on his shoulder, but there was barely anything you could call a pull, and if you compare that to the last minute on Saturday (against Leicester) and the level of contact there was on Cedric, there's a horrible irony there. "For that (penalty) to be given, having not had the one on Saturday given, and the impact that's had on two results, I can't find the words to describe that right now. "Having performed as we did in the second half and being so close to a brilliant comeback victory, to have it taken away in the last few seconds is a devastating one. "There's going to be so much to take from tonight. There's negatives in there, things we need to do better, but there's some big, big positives from what the group showed in difficult circumstances and they're going to need to show those qualities, learn the lessons and put all that into the last 10 games.
