Thomas Muller kept his manager's instructions very, very close after coming off the bench for Bayern Munich. In fact, the veteran took the unusual measure of pulling Vincent Kompany's note out of his shorts to read to his teammates. Muller was brought on after 65 minutes of the clash with Wolfsburg with Bayern 2-1 at the time. Replacing Sacha Boey, the 34-year-old entered the pitch as Bayern were about to take a corner. Hardly the ideal time to hand out tactical instructions, Muller waited until after the corner with Jakub Kaminski scoring an own goal to bring Bayern level at 2-2. While some of his teammates celebrated, Muller took the opportunity to whip the note out of his shorts and show it to his teammates including Joshua Kimmich and Harry Kane. Speaking after the game, Joshua Kimmich said: "The coach wanted to change something. "But did you see where Thomas put the piece of paper? I didn't want to touch it. " While Muller's method of delivering Kompany's tactical was questionable, it clearly worked as Bayern went on to win the match 3-2 thanks to Serge Gnabry's late winner. The result ensured that Bayern made a winning start to their Bundesliga campaign, a good result given the tricky opponent faced. It was also a landmark evening for Muller himself. Muller's appearance was his 474th for Bayern Munich, a landmark which makes him the club's record appearance holder in the Bundesliga, overtaking Sepp Maier. It was also his 709th in all competitions, drawing him level with Maier's record. Speaking about Muller after the game, Kane said: “Thomas is one of the best football brains in the whole world. He’s shown that throughout his whole career. “He really understands the position and where his game is and how he can affect it. “When he came on we scored straight away, I felt like he helped us control the game by making runs in behind and stretching them. “Thomas has had a great pre-season. " Bayern's next match comes on Sunday, September 1 when they host SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga. Have your say on all things talk SPORT by joining ‘The DUGOUT’ – our new listener panel.
