By KIERAN GILL, MAIL SPORT REPORTER and OLIVER HOLT, CHIEF SPORTS WRITER and LUKE POWER, SPORTS REPORTER Updated: 06: 03 AEDT, 2 November 2025 108 View comments Follow Daily Mail Sport's live blog for the latest score, team news and updates as Chelsea host London rival Tottenham at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League, with Oliver Holt and Kieran Gill reporting from the ground. Romero, lovely feet in the box. A couple of keepy-ups there after he took it down from a long throw from Porro. But then he inadvertently fouls Chalobah. A Chelsea change, too. Jamie Gittens is on for Garnacho, who looks rather displeased. Increasingly feels like Chelsea need that second goal to nail this win here, because I don't trust their defence won't be unlocked at some stage. Eek. Xavi Simons is in the book for a hopeless slide tackle on Garnacho. It stops the winger from breaking through on goal so it's probably worth it. In the book he goes. Now, Cristian Romero returns to the team in place of Danso, while Richarlison replaces Rodrigo Bentancur. Dear oh dear. Joao Pedro just knocked Kevin Danso off the ball so easily. It falls back for Pedro Neto and he can't convert, then he gets another chance yards from goal after a Garnacho cross and somehow spoons it over the bar. 'How on earth this game is still 1-0, I'll never know. That's the worry for Chelsea, ' warns Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports. Chelsea spurned a chance to go 2-0 up! Reece James put a cross on a plate for Enzo Fernandez, but he manages to boop the ball over the bar. Pedro Porro scores some points for making him uncomfortable under pressure but the midfielder should have done better. Ah, Bentancur had a chance to redeem himself there! Danso flung in a long throw, Fofana misjudged the flight, and Bentancur wasn't really ready for it. The ball bounced somewhat awkwardly but he could have controlled it better to get a shot off. Moises Caicedo is there to hoover up. Already the man of the match, Sky Sports' commentary team joke. Nice work there from Enzo Fernandez, who charges towards goal, wiggles into a bit of space, and cracks off a low shot which forces Vicario into a dive. Nothing too troublesome but good intent. Any soothing words Thomas Frank had at the break have fallen on deaf ears. Kevin Danso goes in the book for nicking Moises Caicedo. Nothing malicious there, just late. Maybe a touch soft. Tottenham get us going for this half. They've got a lot to prove here. A win for Chelsea will put them up to fourth and level with them on points. Want a fun stat? Chelsea have an expected goals tally of 1. 04. Tottenham, meanwhile? Err. .. 0. 01. So, they could play that half 100 times and only be expected to score one goal. Maybe the major talking point of that half: shoudl Bentancur have been sent off? Chelsea were incensed that his high challenge on James wasn't punished more severely than a booking. And they ended up coming out with more reprimands from that situation, with two yellow cards to show for their protests. 'A fraction higher and that's a red card, ' Jamie Rednapp says on Sky Sports. Joao Pedro could have had a hat-trick. Three shots for him, and all of them on target. Fair play to Vicario, who has risen to the occasion with some crucial saves. Well, Enzo Maresca must be a very happy man. Chelsea have been well in control this game. One man who hasn't been given enough credit so far is Malo Gusto. He made four tackles that half at right-back. LUKE POWER: Boos ring around the ground as the whistle goes and Chelsea take a deserved lead into the break. Reece James screamed when Rodrigo Bentancur committed that terrible tackle on him. It was so loud that we could hear it from the press box. Chelsea players are amazed and furious that VAR has not sent Jarred Gillett to his pitch-side monitor after only showing a yellow. I'm surprised, too. That looked like a red to me, no? ! That had the Spurs fans roaring! A nice bit of interplay between their attackers leads to Kudus shooting from the corner of the box, trying to place it in the far corner, but he probably hit it a bit early and a bit weak, and it's not the hardest save for Sanchez. A late flurry of activity but we'll go into half-time at 0-1. Bentancur is booked for his foul on James. And then the Chelsea skipper gets one as well, seemingly because he wanted his opponent to be sent off. Jarred Gillett looked rather peeved at him and James is ranting on. He needs to be careful here! Trevoh Chalobah has been booked as well for dissent. James and Bentancur shake hands. 'The difference between both teams on the ball is night and day, ' says Jamie Carragher. 'Tottenham should be an awful lot better than what they've shown so far. ' They're looking so shaky in possession. Micky van de Ven just played a very awkward back pass and luckily for him Vicario gets the ball clear. There's now a clash between lots of the player in a major flashpoint after Bentancur's late ankle-twisting challenge on James. That makes perfect sense after the stoppage for Bergvall, Vicario, and the goal. Lightning reactions from Vicario there. Gusto swung in a well-placed cross, and Pedro snapped of a shot under little pressure from point-blank range. But somehow Vicario had his paws to it and you heard the rasp as the ball bounced off them. Some prefer Declan Rice. Others fancy Rodri. But Chelsea would not swap Caicedo for any other defensive midfielder going in the game. He won the ball not once but twice in the build-up to their opener and had the presence of mind to set up Joao Pedro rather than go for glory himself. Moises Caicedo, take a bow. That goal was all his doing. First, winning a tackle. Then, winning another after the ball bounced away. Then beating Kevin Danso to it inside the box to slide it across to Pedro, who provided the top-corner finish. This is the midfielder they bought and with each passing month he looks better. Joao Pedro puts Chelsea in front! They have Moises Caicedo to thank for that after he won three challenges in quick succession to burrow through the back line and bundle the ball to Pedro! Lots going on in this game now! Pedro has a chance at one end, then Tottenham break and Kudus hlashes off a shot of his own but it soars over the bar. The pace has just picked up a tad. Maresca had an interestingly move to counter-act Danso's long throw - send three men up front. That created the chance for a counter but they didn't quite execute it. Vicario limps on and kicks his feet, trying to feel his way into comfort. He gets a break for now as Spurs have a third corner at the other end, but Joao Pedro heads it out for a throw. There seems to have been an issue with something being thrown onto the pitch. A bottle? The referee just had a word with a steward as Kevin Danso waited to launch it long. Uh-oh. .. Vicario is now down and receiving treatment. They're extending his legs. Seems to be a knee issue. He doesn't look super comfortable. he had to miss their game in midweek and now Frank will be sweating. I'm telling you, against this packed Tottenham midfield, the flanks are the way to go. That's where Chelsea are having the most joy in creating chances. Garnacho has stood out so far, looking particularly fleet-footed. Now you feel a lfit in the Tottenham stadium as they win a couple of corners. Pedro Porro swings the first into the near post ans Chalobah has to bop it away - that could have swung in! Next, Kudus flashes an in-swinger towards the six-yard box but Chelsea deal with it. It eventually comes out to Xavi Simons and he loops in a cross of his own but Robert Sanchez comes way off his line to collect it. Mr Assertive. Vicario has been forced into saving a shot! It's Garnacho who works a bit of space in the box and plucks a shot out from his feet but it rolls along the ground and is fairly easy to save. There was a first chance. .. almost. Neto motored down the right side and swung in a cross into the perfect area. .. but it sailed over Garnacho's head, too high. Reece James then thumps a long shot into the stands. It's a start. Lot of credit due to Spurs and their medical staff. Had the strength to tell Bergvall he was not fit to continue, having sustained an early head injury. Too many clubs still look the other way. Vicario flies off his goal line to parry away a corner and does so semi-convincingly. Chelsea come back but can't work a chance and it's a goal kick. Can the hosts gain any momentum? A goal kick from Micky van de Ven is picked up in the midfield. .. by the blue shirts. Chelsea have had Spurs pinned in their half for a decent while now. Losing Bergvall is really going to impact Tottenham's dynamism in the midfield. But Chelsea have looked best this game when they've stretched Tottenham down the flanks with a long ball. This tippy-tappy play has condensed things and is slowing them down. Neither side has been able to take the game by the scruff of the neck yet. Pedro Neto wins another corner after some good dribbling and holding up the ball high on the right flank. Chelsea have been deadly from set-pieces this season. They go short and nothing comes of it. Tell you what, Lucas Bergvall was not happy there, giving the Spurs' doctor a few pushes after being told he had to be substituted because of concussion. He went through a rigorous check after whack on the head from the ball. Really, I'm glad to see player welfare taking priority for once. Bergvall has now been sent down the tunnel and he has been replaced by Xavi Simons - a completely different type of player. That's Thomas Frank's game plan out of the window! Well, Bergvall is now on the sidelines. He's protesting against being removed from action. We'll see if he comes off permanently in due course. Chelsea look to make the most of their advantage and win a corner as Pape Matar Sarr blocks Reece James' cross. Lucas Bergvall is receiving some treatment for a head blow from a robust challenge a couple of minutes back, but he's on his feet. He looks a bit bewildered. But blows to the head must be taken seriously and sometimes even if a player wants to stay on, that's not the right thing for them. Why didn't Tottenham go for the jugular there? They had a four-on-four situation and Mohammed Kudus cut inside on the right, but he played it across to Joao Palhinha, and rather than have a go, he recycled it back. Why not make an early impression and test the goalkeeper? And Chelsea get us underway. Straight back to Robert Sanchez, and he bumps it long to Joao Pedro, but he heads it to Guglielmo Vicario. Something diffrerent from kick-off but still wasted. Alejandro Ganracho draws a foul in the first minute. I'm often quite moderate in my opinions, but I won't sit on the fence with this one: Sky Sports' new Premier League theme tune is far worse than their previous efforts. 'You can be the greatest of all time, you can be the greatest of all time'. .. how about, no I can't? Not everybody can be the best. It's literally impossible. Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo can watch along and maybe nod to it, but the rest of us footballing rabble? Sorry, but it's not happening. I'm not even the best footballer at the Daily Mail. I think Spurs are trying to give a bit of a Halloween feel with the 'Heads Will Roll' tune booming out around the ground. But will there be a horrific scoreline this evening? I'm going to go for. .. 2-2. I see goals in this one. Not sure I see a winner. If pushed, I'd say Chelsea. How about you? 'It's a completely different game. The line-up has so many midfielders. They will {press up hard] for sure. he was doing the same with Brentford and they're not going to change anything. 'We need to move on [from Sunderland defeat] and go game-by-game. ' Tottenham sit third in the table going into this one. They could climb to second. The football hasn't been as helter-skelter as it was last season, but it has been efficient. Certainly beats 17th. Thomas Frank has given his thoughts ahead of the game. This feels like a pivotal game for both sides but especially Chelsea. Losing to Spurs carries a special kind of dread for Chelsea supporters and defeat in north London would ramp up the pressure on Enzo Maresca. In the chill of November, Enzo Maresca may just begin to feel the heat. He did a fine job last season, but memories aren't long in Stamford Bridge's executive boxes. Chelsea come into this one in the bottom half of the table. They're only three points off the top five, so it's hardly a disaster, but it's definitely not where they want to linger. I joked earlier that Chelsea should sign Amara Nallo and I'm still waiting on my comedy series contract. For thos who don't know, Nallo is the rather unfortunate Liverpool youngster who has had two red cards in two appearances (16 minutes) for the Reds. But really, the masters of ill-discipline are Chelsea. Six red cards this season already. Kieran Gill rate how stupid they all were. .. and tries to find solutions. Have you had a chance to visit Tottenham's new ground? You hear quality reviews about the facilities over and over. But does a stadium of this sort help the atmosphere? Let us know if you've visited in the comments and what you thought. LUKE POWER: Randal Kolo Muani. He's been on the biggest stages of all. He's proven, at times in his career, that there is prolific potential in those boots. Now Thomas Frank turns to him. It's just his second Premier League start, on loan from PSG. He's still searching for that elusive first Spurs goal, having had five appearances in all competitions. He'll bring a physical challenge to Chelsea's backline today. He's definitely got the ability to do it all, whether that's running in behind or holding up the ball. Variety could be the name of the game. Enzo Maresca doesn't like facing a back five. We all know that. And Thomas Frank has selected four central midfielders in his XI. That may suggest one may drop into the back line to create a back five, perhaps someone such as Joao Palhinha. Here they are! Last season he was a Europe League winner. Now he's a. .. photographer? A 26-year-old former Spurs star has made an extremely surprising decision to hang up his boots and pursue a new career. Can you guess who it is? Alright, alright. Don't laugh. Nowadays, most football fans are obviously saying Chelsea. But the history isn't so clear. John Terry and Jamie O'Hara had a little disagreement on talk SPORt this week as they debated their beloved sides' historical merits. 'I've been invited to the game by Tottenham at the weekend. It's a 5: 30 kick-off, they've asked me to get there at 5: 29 and they've said they'll take me around the trophy cabinet and they'll have me in my seat by kick-off, ' Terry joked. Very good. But, as you can read below, the history - taken in its totality - may be more on Spurs' side. .. Right, then, who's getting a red card today for Chelsea? They've had six in their last nine games, including the one for Enzo Maresca, and are on their way to making an XI for 2025-26. Chelsea's red card team this season: GK – Robert Sanchez RB – Malo Gusto CB – Trevoh Chalobah CB – LB – MD – MD – FW – FW – Joao Pedro FW – ST – Liam Delap Manager: Enzo Maresca By Luke Power Enzo Maresca has made sweeping changes coming into this one from their 4-3 goalfest against Wolves in midweek. Sanchez, Fofana, Chalobah, Cucurella, James, Caicedo, Neto, Enzo Fernandez, Garacho, and Joao Pedro are all in. The only survivor from their Carabao Cup progression is Malo Gusto. By Luke Power Thomas Frank makes five changes from Spurs' 2-0 defeat at Newcastle in the Carabao Cup in midweek. Vicario, Bergvall, Kudus, Van de Ven, and Kolo Muani all come in. Frankly (excuse the pun), Spurs have an abysmal record against Chelsea at their new stadium. Cheslea have been here eight times, winning six and drawing one. The last time they lost here was in February 2023. And they have a stunning record in the derby generally. They've won 13 of their last 17, drawing two and losing two, dating back to late January 2019. But Thomas Frank's own record against the west Londoners is impressive. He won three, drew three, and lost two against them while managing neighbours Brentford. .. though never beat them at home. Tottenham are in town. As you'd expect. It is, after all, their town. Our Chelsea reporter Kieran Gill - well worth a follow on X - has noticed a worrying trend for the Blues. The more of the ball they have, the worse they do. Yet Maresca has insisted he will not abandon his high-possession strategy, so they'll have to work this out somehow. Kieran's graphic below doesn't make for great reading. Is having the ball actually hurting them? Tottenham: Thomas Frank will be glad to have Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, and Wilson Isidor available this evening after their recent injuries. Archie Gray and Dominic Solanke are out injured, as well as the other raft of men who have been out of action: Dragusin, Takai, Davies, Bissouma, Maddison, and Kulusevski. Chelsea: Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, and Joao Pedro are in contention, Enzo Maresca has confirmed. Liam Delap is fit again but is suspended after his red card against Wolves. Cole Palmer, Benoit Badiashile, Dario Essugo, and Levi Colwill are longer-term absences. If Spurs' home form is only good enough for 17th in the league, the last thing they need are some warriors on the road. But that's what they're facing - only they and Arsenal have better away form than Enzo Maresca's side this season. Chelsea thrashed West Ham 5-1 away, drew 2-2 at Brentford, lost 2-1 to Manchester United, and recently beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 to end Ange Postecoglou's reign. Spurs haven't won at home since September 24, and that was against League One side Doncaster Rovers. In fact, they've only won one Premier League game here all campaign, and that was on the opening weekend against Burnley. Since then, they've been beaten by Bournemouth, drawn to Wolves, and lost to Aston Villa. Not so much a fortress as a pillow fort at the moment. We were treated to an absolute thriller last December as Chelsea came from behind to beat Spurs 4-3. The hosts had raced into an early lead after goals from Dominic Solanke and Dejan Kulusevski, but the visitors then hit four without reply including an ice-cold panenka from Cole Palmer, one of two strikes from him that day. Son Heung-min bagged a stoppage-time glimmer of hope for Spurs, but it ended 4-3, and neither he nor Palmer will play today. Son is now at Los Angeles FC; Palmer is still injured. Hello and welcome to Daily Mail Sport's live blog of Tottenham vs Chelsea in the Premier League! A cheeky test of the screen here by the hosts reveals they think they'll be 1-0 up at some point in this London derby. After one win in their last four games, they'd certainly take that. How's that not a red card?
