By Harry Bamforth My word, it has felt like an age since Tottenham won back-to-back Premier League matches, hasn't it? I mean, that's because it has been. This it the first time they have won two league matches on the bounce since September. And guess what? Those two wins were against Brentford and Manchester United. I know, it's crazy. For a club, the size of Spurs to have been that inconsistent is quite crazy really. Well, to be fair to them they were consistent at one stage. .. just consistently losing games. Not anymore though. It finally seems like there's some light at the end of the tunnel. It's about time. By Harry Bamforth Jamie Redknapp, former Tottenham midfielder, on Sky Sports: By Harry Bamforth Not all Tottenham fans are in celebration mode. We saw the protests against Daniel Levy before the match, and even during it. Well, they have also continued out of it. A group of supporters stayed in the ground to display the banner again and sing against Levy. One win is not going to change their opinion, that's for sure. By Harry Bamforth James Maddison, Tottenham matchwinner, on Sky Sports: By Harry Bamforth Manchester United fans, your club is going to get really beaten up in this post-match analysis. I'm sorry, but the statistics are just not good viewing at all. That defeat was their 12th in 25 Premier League games this season. I'm not joking, that is very much true. That is their most defeats from their first 25 matches of a league campaign since 1973-74, when they lost 13. Guess what happened in that campaign? Yep, it's when they were last relegated from the top-flight when they had players as good as George Best. This season they are just lucky there are so many poor teams in this division, otherwise they would have a scrap on their hands. Still, 15th is pretty darn pants. By Harry Bamforth Ruben Amorim looks a little like a beaten man, he really does. His four months at Manchester United have been terrible, they really have. It only seems to be getting worse as well. That's his ninth defeat since joining the club. .. and eight of those have been in the Premier League. I mean, you wouldn't expect a United manager to get close to that amount in a whole season, let alone just a few months. That must have been one of the most frustrating of the lot, the amount of chances United missed today was silly. Amorim was going apoplectic at times, he was not a happy bunny in the slightest. You feel he may have to turn things around soon, or he may actually be in trouble. I don't think that is unfair, do you? By Chris Wheeler At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium By Harry Bamforth You can really feel the relief inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It's a monster win for them and they are celebrating it as such. Most fans are still in here and the players are giving them a right good clap. It's the first time we have seen these scenes in 105 days. When I heard that statistic, I couldn't believe my eyes. The fact that is Tottenham's first home league win in nearly four months is mental. We have become accustomed to boos filling this place at full-time, but at last, they have something to cheer about. Has a corner been turned? It may just have been. But then again, it's not like they have beaten a Manchester United side in their pomp. Far from it. It doesn't matter who you beat though, just as long as you do it. By Harry Bamforth Tottenham hold on! The whistle means Spurs take home three points at home for the first time in 15 weeks. Mental. It's fully deserved, they gave a few chances away but it really looked like the old Spurs are starting to come back. Manchester United, meanwhile, yikes. That's the Red Devils' 12th Premier League defeat of the season after just 25 games. The misery continues. By Harry Bamforth Mathys Tel just can't get it right tonight, jeez. He looks like he is through to make it two but the forward takes a terrible touch to allow Andre Onana to thwart him. Is he wearing a pair of steel-capped boots today. .. it feels like it. By Harry Bamforth Manchester United have just three minutes to salvage a point. I can't see it happening, but crazier things have happened in my time. By Harry Bamforth What a moment for young Chido Obi! The academy star is on for his senior Manchester United debut and replaces Casemiro. United need a hero, is it time for the kids to come good for them? Also, Patrick Dorgu has just been booked. .. there is just so much happening I didn't have time to post it. By Harry Bamforth Was that the chance? ?? Casemiro gets on the end of a corner but can only head the ball into the gloves of Vicario. He was completely unmarked in the middle, he simply has to do better there. It's just not United's day. .. By Harry Bamforth Now this has been a long time coming! There is a cheer from all four stands as Wilson Odobert returns to the pitch for the first time since September. The youngster replaces Son Heung-Min for the final few minutes, which is a huge boost for the hosts. Can he make an instant impact? By Harry Bamforth My word, how many attacks are going to be ruined by the final ball? Mathys Tel has just been sent away down the left and he just has to fashion a chance for himself. However, the only thing he succeeds in doing is getting groans aimed at him from the home fans after passing the ball straight to Alejandro Garnacho. So poor it actually hurts. By Harry Bamforth Manchester United's final product has really let them down tonight. Time after time after time they are getting in the positions, but nothing comes of it. Patrick Dorgu is in a really good position down the left but overcooks his cross and the chance is wasted. By Chris Wheeler At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium By Harry Bamforth This game is just frenetic, I can't believe it's still only 1-0. Both goalkeepers have made so many saves and this time it's Andre Onana who is called into action. Dejan Kulusevski skips past one player, then two, then three, before drilling low at goal. But Onana yet again denies the hosts. If there is only one goal in this match by full-time, I will eat my hat. By Harry Bamforth Oh dear. .. It's yet another defensive injury for Tottenham and it's new boy Kevin Danso who has to come off. He is replaced by Archie Gray while Yves Bissouma is on for Rodrigo Bentancur. By Harry Bamforth Ohhh. .. stop that Rodrigo Bentancur. Bentancur looks to have had a real brain fart as Bruno Fernades closes him down by the Tottenham box. But out of nowhere, the midfielder just turns him inside out to relieve some pressure. I haven't seen that from him in a very long time. Lovely. By Harry Bamforth I can't keep up with everything here, it's all happening. Tottenham are now going for it again and Mathys Tel has yet another crack at goal. Once again though, it's a tame effort and Andre Onana deals with it accordingly. By Harry Bamforth Ohhhhh. .. . Casemiro is down and screaming for a penalty after seemingly being shoved to the ground. It's a lovely ball from Patrick Dorgu to find the Brazilian at the back post, but I think he flops to the floor too easily. United are well on top now, you can sense a goal coming. By Harry Bamforth Joshua Zirkzee, you simply have to score! Noussair Mazraoui whips in a teasing ball and Zirkzee has no one around as he meets it. But he can't keep his header on target and the ball drifts just wide of the post. The Dutchman can't believe it, he puts his forehead to the post and then looks to the sky. I mean, it's a shocker. By Harry Bamforth I think I may have jinxed this game. .. I really do. I said that James Maddison's gaol would not be the only one, but it's looking like it might be. Manchester United just had a four-on-four but Joshua Zirkzee literally missed the ball completely when it came his way. Tottenham then counter and it ends with Son Heung-Min having an effort deflected over the bar. The ball just won't go in! By Harry Bamforth Erm. .. I think Ruben Amorim may be a broken man. The camera has just panned to the Manchester United boss sitting on his own on the bench with his head looking at the floor. That's what the United job does to you. It's brutal. By Harry Bamforth Oh, here come the changes from Ange Postecoglou. Goalscorer James Maddison's work is done, he has been replaced by the returning Brennan Johnson. Lucas Bergvall is also being hooked, his replacement is Pape Sarr. By Harry Bamforth Tottenham have suddenly woken up again now that I told them to. Someone must have shouted from the crowd that I was having a go at them, I am sure that's what has made them more lively. Honestly, since the last post it has been all Tottenham. Son Heung-Min has just had a strike deflected agonisingly wide of the post before Mathys Tel has an effort blocked. Football, eh? It's crazy. By Harry Bamforth Tottenham need to find a way out here, Manchester United are all over them. The momentum has completely switched, Ruben Amorim's team talk has definitely worked. Of course, just as I write that, Mathys Tel has a chance. .. I always jinx teams. Luckily for United, it goes wide. By Harry Bamforth Not again? ? I am not quite sure what Alejandro Garnacho has to do to score, he is getting closer and closer, but not close enough. This time he rips a roaring effort low toward the bottom corner and it looks set to nestle in the corner. But his hopes are crushed yet again by Vicario who flies across to push the ball away. A stunning save. By Matt Barlow At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium By Harry Bamforth Guess what? That's right, Alejandro Garnacho has missed yet another big chance for Manchester United. It's actually getting a little silly now. The Argentine's first touch from Joshua Zirkzee's pinging pass is brilliant and allows him to run through on goal. But he just doesn't look confident and Vicario thwarts him yet again. By Harry Bamforth Oooooh, that's a big save from Vicario. That ankle is certainly not causing him any problems anymore, he makes a wonderful save from Diogo Dalot. The Portuguese full-back gets in behind and is away before smashing the ball toward the near post. Vicariop manages to beat the ball away and the flag goes up, although the replay shows Dalot is onside. That was important from the Italian. By Harry Bamforth I'll Tel you what, Mathys is not having the best of games today. Right, I'll get my coat. .. That was terrible, but on a serious note, Tel has struggled to get into this game. Just as I say that, Djed Spence manages to pull the ball back for the loanee, and this is his moment. But the Frenchman only succeeds in planting the ball into the stands. By Harry Bamforth Tottenham are starting to get a head of steam again. Even Kevin Danso is fancying his chances against this Manchester United side, with how open they are. The Spurs defender has a crack from the edge of the area but Andre Onana holds onto his strike. I mean, it wasn't the best of efforts I have to say, but at least it was on target. Alejandro Garnacho should take some notes. By Harry Bamforth While this game starts to find its rhythm again, I have something for you guys to read. Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville is currently working this match for Sky Sports. Recently, our very own Mike Keegan went to interview the newly-turned 50-year-old. Go have a look at what was said! Join Mail+ today to get the best in-depth reporting from our world-class team of writers By Harry Bamforth Right then, Manchester United's rollicking from Ruben Amorim is over. The players are all back on the pitch for the second half and unsurprisingly there are no changes. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if United didn't make any for the whole game. Anyway, we are back underway. By Harry Bamforth Alejandro Ganracho just can't hit a barn door at the moment. Week in and week out the Argentine misses some huge chances, and it has been no different today. How he didn't equalise 10 minutes after the opener, I will never know. It was a shocking miss. I'd put my money on my flatmates scoring it and they haven't played football in at least a decade. Yep, that's how bad it was. Of players to have had 10 or more big chances in the Premier League this season, Alejandro Garnacho has the lowest conversion rate. He has only netted two of his 14. .. wasteful. By Harry Bamforth My word, this feels like a lifetime ago, doesn't it? Tottenham's opener was just way too easy to come by, James Maddison probably couldn't believe that chance came his way. Not a single Manchester United player reacted when Andre Onana made that save, and Maddison was allowed to have a pop on his own. It was a lovely gift for him on his return from injury. By Chris Wheeler At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium By Harry Bamforth There goes the whistle. For once, there are actually cheers rather than boos from the Tottenham fans at half-time. Ange Postecoglou's side lead Manchester United thanks to an early goal from James Maddison, and they are good value for it. United have had some huge chances that they really should have taken, but for the most part, they have been really poor. If I were those players, I would be scared to walk back to the dressing room with how angry Ruben Amorim looks. He is about to go mental. By Harry Bamforth There is just one minute until Ruben Amorim gets the opportunity to lay into his side. Going by how he looks on that touchline, a bomb will go off in there. By Harry Bamforth It's hard to explain just how all over the gaff Manchester United are, my word. There are gaps everywhere, their side are like a slice of Swiss cheese. To think they were so disciplined when they played Liverpool and Arsenal at the start of the year, and now play like this. Odd, it has to be said. By Harry Bamforth Now that one is a yellow card! This time it's Casemiro who makes the tackle and it's a really poor one on Son Heung-Min. He cleans the Spurs captain out from behind and now both of them are rolling around on the ground injured. The Brazilian actually looks to have come off worse. .. it's time to call for the kids Ruben. Oh wait, it looks like he is OK to continue, and he has been booked for good measure. By Harry Bamforth Ooooft, now that's a heavy challenge from Ben Davies. The Tottenham centre-back arrives late on Casemiro and completely wipes him out like this is WWE. Somehow he gets away without a yellow card, which is pretty mental. By Harry Bamforth The chances have really dried up here, which is a shame. I know I was thankful a minute ago, but I have got my breather and want to be entertained again. Pedro Porro has just whipped a nothing cross out of play which brings groans from the crowd. I know, who would have thought Spurs fans would show frustration. .. By Harry Bamforth Manchester United's midfield is just stupidly poor, I can't lie. There is a monster gaping hole in the middle of their team and Tottenham are just finding so much space. Why is there such a big gap between Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes? It's utterly bizarre. It's like they are just inviting Tottenham to run through them. By Harry Bamforth OK, the teams have given me a chance to breathe. .. I'm very grateful. Tottenham are just stroking the ball about now and it's taken a bit of the sting out of this game. Not like Spurs to play sensibly though, what is going on? I mean, I am sure the chaos will resume at some point in this game, surely. By Harry Bamforth I feel like I am watching the NBA - this is like a basketball match. Both sides are just that rubbish defensively that there are so many chances being created. This time it's Tottenham who have a pop of their own as James Maddison pings a lovely ball over the top for Son Heung-Min. The captain races through before pulling the ball back for signing Mathys Tel to hit. The striker obliges, but Andre Onana is equal to the effort. By Matt Barlow At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium By Harry Bamforth WOW. WHAT A MISS! That may just be one of the misses from the season from Alejandro Garnacho, he simply has to score. Bruno Fernandes slides him through in acres of space inside the area, but Garnacho leans back and blazes miles over. That ball may just end up in space with how high it went, or at least the Emirates down the road. How he missed that, I have no idea. By Harry Bamforth OK, Joshua. .. I didn't know you had that in you. Joshua Zirkzee hasn't exactly been great this season, but he has just shown what he is all about. He takes the ball brilliantly and gets it out of his feet before sending a dipping effort toward the far post. It's a great effort but it flies just wide. By Chris Wheeler At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium By Harry Bamforth This game is just as chaotic and stressful to cover as I was expecting. Tottenham look like they could score every time they go forward, while Manchester United are loving life on the counter. I think it's pretty easy to see why there were seven goals the last time these two played each other. They are both manic, I love watching them. By Harry Bamforth That is a lesson in why you need to be clinical. Manchester United should have been ahead, but they just couldn't take the opportunities when they came. And just like that, now they are behind. I wouldn't worry too much yet if I were United though, they will get a load more chances to score. If that is the only goal of this game, I would be stunned. By Harry Bamforth James Maddison returns with a goal! At one end, Manchester United miss a whole host of chances, but at the other spurs do not make the same mistake. Lucas Bergvall drives the ball toward the bottom corner and Andre Onana gets low to push the ball away. But Maddison reacts quickest and taps home from just three yards out - the easiest goal he will ever score. We knew there would be goals, and we have our first. By Harry Bamforth HOW HAVE MAN UNITED NOT SCORED? ?? Out of absolutely nowhere, the visitors come alive and have three huge chances in the space of a few seconds. Rasmus Hojlund races away before seeing Vicario get low and save his effort. The ball then comes to Alejandro Garancho who bends one toward the top corner, but yet again Vicario gets a glove to it. But it only goes as far as Digo Dalot who has a strike cleared off the line by Ben Davies. Chaotic does not cut it, I am in disbelief here. By Harry Bamforth Tottenham have started really well here. They are just knocking the ball around Manchester United with ease, the Red Devils can't get a touch on it. Ruben Amorim's side are under the cosh. By Harry Bamforth My word, what a cross that is from Son Heung-Min. The Spurs captain has just dug out a ball from absolutely nowhere and bent it to the back post. I'm not quite sure he has managed that. It comes to nothing though because no Tottenham players dart in to meet it. In their defence, nobody was expecting it. By Harry Bamforth When the Tottenham fans really want to make an atmosphere, they certainly know how to. The fans are really singing at the top of their lungs in the early minutes of this game. And that's about the only thing I can report on because nothing else has happened yet. It's early days. .. that's not me moaning. By Harry Bamforth The Donkey Derby is underway! I would apologise for that being harsh, but I really don't think that it is. Let's hope we are all entertained, I'm sure we will be. By Harry Bamforth Boy, I am excited for this one! There is some really intense music that I am pretty sure is from Star Wars (what a film) which is just getting me pumped. The atmosphere in here is buzzing, these fans may have had a rubbish season of it, but they are still up for this. The songs are being belted out from both ends, it's so, so noisy inside of here. There is then some techno as a treat before kick-off, which I am always a fan of. As we speak, I am bobbing up and down in my chair. By William Pickworth Ruben Amorim has just been speaking to Sky Sports ahead of today's game. He covered the injuries his side have suffered, today's team selection which sees Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund both start, while he also provides more information on United's youthful bench. What an opportunity for some of those youngsters today, but you have to say the Red Devils look stretched to the maximum right now. By William Pickworth While things may be getting better on the injury front from a Tottenham perspective, it's looking a lot bleaker for Man United. Mail Sport exclusively revealed last night how Amad Diallo is set to be out for the rest of the season - and it now looks as if Kobbie Mainoo will join him for a fair chunk of that period. That's a huge blow for Ruben Amorim! By William Pickworth Our friends at Squawka have provided some pre-match info ahead of today's clash. Take a look at the key statistics below. .. By William Pickworth Ange Postecoglou's side will no doubt be boosted today by several key players returning to the matchday squad after injury. Last week was pretty bleak for Spurs as they crashed out of both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, so they will be desperate to get back to winning ways. It's a perfect opportunity to do so in what is a huge game against another big team, but also one that has been struggling badly too. It promises to be an enthralling encounter. e By William Pickworth Jamie Redknapp has slammed Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy amid the club's struggles on the pitch this season. Spurs currently linger 15th in the Premier League table and were dumped out of both domestic cup competitions last week. Pressure on Ange Postecoglou has soared, with Spurs on track for their worst-ever season in the top flight. Read the full story below. .. By William Pickworth By William Pickworth Back in December these teams played out a dramatic seven-goal thriller in the Carabao Cup quarter-final. There were defensive errors, great goals and pure chaos unfolded in what was a hugely entertianing game. Let's hope we see something similar this time around, but you can recap on that previous encounter below. .. By William Pickworth By Matt Barlow At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium By William Pickworth It's been a difficult year for Tottenham and Man United for a variety of reasons, but who is in a worse position - and can they turn it around? Mail Sport's LEWIS BROWNING took a look at the decline of both teams so far in 2024-25. Read his full story below. .. By William Pickworth Guglielmo Vicario is back involved for Tottenham today for the first time since he picked up an ankle injury during Spurs' memorable 4-0 win over Man City in November. The Italian keeper suffered a fractured ankle in a collision with Savinho on that day, but remarkably managed to play on, making a whole host of stunning saves. It's fair to say his absence has caused plenty of problems for Spurs, with Fraser Forster struggling, before Antonin Kinsky was brought in from Slavia Prague in January. The Czech keeper has shown signs of his promise, but has also highlighted how he is just a young 21-year-old keeper by making a few costly errors. By William Pickworth Victor Lindelof is markedly bringing up the average age on that bench. Jack Fletcher, son of United legend Darren, is involved, while Sekou Kone has impressed since joining the club in the summer from Malian side Guidars FC. The Mali midfielder shone for his country at the Under 17 World Cup. Elyh Harrison is United's back-up keeper today. The 18-year-old came through the ranks at League One side Stevenage before moving to Old Trafford in 2022 - and he has senior experience with National League North side Chester. By William Pickworth Tottenham have been a victim of some horrific injury luck this season with a lengthy list of absentees. But, United's recent struggles on the fitness front are really coming to the fore, with today's bench hugely inexperienced. It's only really Victor Lindelof who has any senior experience, with Chido Obi-Martin - the much-talked about 17-year-old who United signed from Arsenal in the summer - in a squad for the first time today! That's SEVEN academy products on the bench today in what must be a very proud day for United's famed youth system. By William Pickworth Ange Postecoglou has rung the changes as well, with some welcome injury news, coupled with a few January additions coming into the XI. Guglielmo Vicario is back from injury for his first game since November, while Kevin Danso makes his Premier League debut. Elsewhere, Lucas Bergvall comes in for Yves Bissouma, James Maddison is back from injury and Mathys Tel makes his debut. Brennan Johnson, Destiny Udogie and Wilson Odobert make the bench! (4-2-3-1) - Vicario; Porro, Danso, Davies, Spence; Bergvall, Bentancur; Kulusevski, Maddison, Son (C); Tel By William Pickworth It's been two weeks since Man United's last Premier League game - a 2-0 defeat by Crystal Palace at Old Trafford - and Ruben Amorim has rung the changes. It's five alterations in total, with Matthijs De Ligt, Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee, Casemiro and Patrick Dorgu all coming in. Out go Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo and Lisandro Martinez, with the latter two facing lengthy spells on the sidelines through injury. (3-4-3) - Onana; De Ligt, Maguire, Mazraoui; Dalot, Casemiro, Fernandes (C), Dorgu; Zirkzee, Garnacho; Hojlund By William Pickworth By William Pickworth It's fair to say it's been a pretty disastrous season for Manchester United and Tottenham. Both teams came into the campaign with lofty ambitions and hopes to push at the top of the Premier League. In truth, it couldn't have really gone much worse and ahead of this afternoon's clash, United lie 14th - 15 points off the top four - while Spurs are two points worse off down in 15th. There have been mitigating factors - most notably lengthy injury lists - but this is really not what you expect from two of the biggest clubs in England.
