Summing signing Shannon Mc Gregor, left, was on target in the 2-0 win over Gintra that sent Celtic into round two History-makers is a phrase that's been synonymous with Elena Sadiku's Celtic. First, it was lifting the SWPL title for the first time in dramatic fashion last season, then it was making it into the second round of the Women's Champions League. Now they have the chance to write another historic chapter and make it to the group stage, a feat never achieved by the club before. All they have to do is defeat Ukrainian side Vorskla Poltava over two legs, both at home, with the first meeting on Sunday (12: 00 BST). "We know the special occasion of these games, " said Celtic head coach Sadiku, who took charge in January. "We know we can get through to the group stage for the first time ever, we know that we can create history again. "I hope the players have been dreaming about this opportunity and I want them to achieve that. " Thanks to their title win last season, Celtic entered the competition in the champions path, giving them a more favourable draw than Glasgow rivals Rangers, who were knocked out by Arsenal in the first round. Sadiku's team needed extra time to edge Finnish side Ku PS in their opener, with Saoirse Noonan netting twice to complete her hat-trick and seal a 3-1 win. Progress from the round one mini-final was more smooth as goals from Shannon Mc Gregor and Kit Loferski defeated Lithuanian hosts Gintra 2-0. Now Celtic, in just their third Champions League campaign, have a tantalising and lucrative opportunity in front of them. "I want to make sure that we take it, " said Swede Sadiku. "I want them to live their dreams and for that to be happening I need to make sure they're excited, hungry and enjoying the moment. "I've been part of the Champions League before as a player and a coach, but for me now it feels so much more special because the players I have now are very special to me, the club is very special to me. "I'm just looking forward to getting going and being ready for the challenge. " Natalya Zinchenko's side were seeded in the champions path courtesy of being 29th in Uefa's coefficient table, 53 places above Celtic. The higher ranking is largely because, while Celtic clinched their first title last season, Vorskla Poltava have won theirs four more times since their first in 2016. Vorskla have only progressed beyond the qualifying rounds once - before losing to Shymkent of Kazakhstan in the round of 32 three years ago. Former Ukraine midfielder Zinchenko has been team boss since 2021, the 44-year-old having spent the previous three years as national head coach. Eleven of her squad are part of Volodymyr Pyatenko's current Ukraine set-up, including 60-times capped attacking midfielder Yana Kalinina.
