Plymouth Argyle winger Ibrahim Cissoko has been ruled out until 2025 through injury. It is another blow for manager Wayne Rooney, who is already without captain Joe Edwards. Cissoko is the latest name to join Argyle's mounting injury list after undergoing surgery on a hip issue. The 21-year-old picked up the injury during last month's 5-0 loss to Cardiff, a match in which he was sent off. He will now be absent for at least eight weeks, with a return not expected before January. Speaking to BBC Radio Devon, Rooney explained: "It's a big blow for us, a big loss. He did it in the Cardiff game when he got sent off. "He hasn't trained since then, we sent him for scans and unfortunately it's come back that he'll need surgery and he'll be out until January. " Cissoko signed for Plymouth on a season-long loan from French side Toulouse in the summer. The Dutch winger has since scored three goals and provided an assist in ten Championship appearances. Those strikes include a brace in the home win over Luton back in September. However, Rooney's side are currently winless in their last four matches, losing three of them. Plymouth sit 22nd in the table but are only in the relegation zone on goal difference following Saturday's loss at Leeds. They face a key survival clash with bottom club Portsmouth at Home Park on Tuesday. A defeat could see the Pilgrims slip to the foot of the table depending on other results. Rooney has been in charge since the summer, when he signed a three-year deal with the club. The Manchester United and England legend began his managerial career as a player/coach at Derby County in 2020, taking the job permanently in November of that year. After keeping Derby up at the end of the 2020/21 season, Rooney was unable to repeat the feat the following campaign with the Rams being handed a 21-point deduction having spent almost the entire season in administration. He then spent a year coaching DC United, who he represented as a player, before becoming Birmingham manager in October 2023. Rooney lasted just three months in the job at St Andrew's, with Blues subsequently relegated to League One last term. He then got the job at Plymouth, who beat Birmingham in the Championship relegation battle, in the summer.
