Wolfsburg won the Women's Champions League in both 2013 and 2014 Wolfsburg claimed a one-goal advantage over eight-time European champions Lyon following the first leg of their Women's Champions League quarter-final. The hosts struck the decisive blow in the 14th minute when Lineth Beerensteyn's 20-yard shot took a massive deflection off Lyon midfielder Damaris Egurrola and left goalkeeper Christiane Endler with no chance. Lyon had earlier missed a good opportunity when the game was goalless, but American international Lindsey Heaps could not capitalise after she was gifted the ball following a poor clearance from home goalkeeper Stina Johannes. Dutch forward Beerensteyn could have doubled Wolfsburg's lead, only for her to head over when unmarked five yards out. Lyon, who had beaten Wolfsburg 3-1 at home in the league phase, had further chances to draw level, but Melchie Dumornay twice failed to hit the target when well placed. Kadidiatou Diani also hit the post for the French visitors and Marie-Antoinette Katoto headed over in injury-time, but the German side held on for the first-leg victory. The second leg takes place in France on 2 April, with the winners of the tie facing either Arsenal or Chelsea in the two-legged semi-final.
